Annotated 43-2
So that warmth between Syr’Nj and Frigg from the last chapter is already feeling the chill. Syr’Nj’s intellect is coming up against a wall in terms of finding the winter elves, and Frigg is usually at her surliest when facing a foe she can’t fight, like the cold.
Diplomatically, though, Syr’Nj does elect not to tell Frigg that WAV is toasty warm within his armor. That probably wouln’t benefit anybody.
FB: “No matter where we travel in our search for answers to life, the universe, and everything, I read us as always forty-two meters from our destination. Which seems infinitely improbable.”
Oh, FB teaser. While it IS infinitely improbable, it’s not our fault. There’s something fundamentally wrong with the universe.
Full plate in arctic conditions is a BAD idea.
Chainmail too.
Actually, all sorts of metal overalls will ruin your day.
…at least you really really shouldn’t lick them :)
Although, it seems that Frigg has her armor mostly covered, so it should be alright-ish — that is except for her lower legs which are all metal on the outside, and probably no better insulated on the inside than on any other day. And thanks to the really good heat-conducting properties of steel, that armor will draw heat from pretty far up her legs.
On the other hand, she also waded through lava that one time, and survived, so I guess this can’t be worse than that. Also, I hear anger can really help you increase blood flow, and if anyone’s good at anger, it’s Frigg.
The problem is really that metal is a great heat conductor.
So if your surroundings are freezing, the metal will suck warmth out of you very effectively.
Covering the metal with fur won’t help very much. It might make more sense to keep the furs under the metal, as what you want to do is trap air close to your skin… but then armor is not made to fit over thick furs.
Compare to sitting in a car in cold climates – without the heating on, temps will drop fast.
