Syr’Nj or even Frigg might’ve suspected what was up with WAV here. If they’d had any real downtime, they might’ve taken Byron and Gravedust aside and said “Yeah, that guy? We know who that is.” So for Best’s emerging to have any real weight, it almost had to happen here.
FB: “Today’s Guilded Age has reached a critical system failure.”
Meanwhile, Syr’Nj once again shows she’s almost as effective with a bow and arrow as the depowered Gravedust. If she wasn’t already juggling like four roles in the team (healer, leader, scientist, once-and-future politician), she could take over as the archer while Gravedust finds himself.
I wonder why she wouldn’t be using her crossbow.
Of course, mechanical devices don’t like cold, snowy weather, so realistically a bow is probably better – I wonder if this was a factor here?
A fact that comics and movies like to glance over is the enormous time it takes to reload a crossbow, while a bow can be used extremely quickly.
In this kind of close, fast combat, it would be a very silly idea to try and reload it when she could also use a bow instead.
Just found the video that showed me just how quick a bow can be:

The guy looks a little funny but he’s definitely shown that the Legolas machine gun is actually not too fast compared to what humans have been able to do with bow and arrow. I doubt that even a light crossbow, although it can put more energy into a shot and makes it easier to aim, could get anywhere close to this speed, at least not unless it took so little work to reload that the bolts became less effective than arrows fired from a bow.
What I found fun about Lars’s archery (the video) was that he was interested in trying and showing historical archery techniques as best that they can be determined.
yeah, but in this particular comic, the canon is that Syrj can fire stuff in very rapid succession with her syr’nj-crossbows, so that’s probably not the realism in play here.
It would be rather abrupt if it were.
I like the way Wav’s epiphany looks like Iron Man’s HUD setup
