Each solution chosen has its own reflection which is chosen in the reflection as a reflection of your reflection on its reflection. We call this a Reflex.
Yeah, Winter’s Heart wasn’t good. By the end, I was wondering why the Two Rivers didn’t just kill Perrin and Fail(e) and become a republic. It would have made the story so much better.
That said, Crossroads of Twilight was very good and Knife of Dreams was superb. Then he died.
That’s odd. I liked Winter’s Heart, but really didn’t like Crossroads. I did like Knife of Dreams though. I liked WH because of the climax. It was a big event. But Crossroads just felt like an extended epilogue, where we get to see everyone’s reaction to WH. Until the cliffhanger at the end, which I loved/hated because I was half asleep until then, and then suddenly snap awake and realize that it’s over and I’m back to the wait for the next one. Different tastes I suppose. Any thoughts one the new ones by Sanderson?
For a ghost writer (and I appreciate that’s a big caveat), they’re excellent. Sanderson seems to be writing the way Jordan did in Great Hunt/Dragon Reborn. So, he’s not quite up to the standard Jordan reached by the end of Knife of Dreams (then again, Jordan had had several decades to practise by that point – not surprising he improved), but still well worth reading. And Sanderson says there’s only one more…
what I hated about Winter’s Heart was that whole ‘ooh I’m going to make all the women feel what the other ones are doing while my author avatar is in the sack with one, even the ones that can’t channel, I’ll just handwave that part cuz it really excites me to throw this in.’
People often say that one should look at oneself in the mirror as a gesture of enlightened humbleness. Best obviously has that covered (thoroughly), yet another example of his superiority.
Reminds me of the raccoon trap from Where the Red Fern Grows. Bait in a small hole, where they can reach in but can’t get out while making a fist. Apparently the raccoon will never let go of the bait.
And I guess nobody’s genre-savvy. I’d start running as soon as I saw the mirrors. It could be a doppleganger trap, or worse, a puzzle!
because he is the quest giver, sort of. and they owe him one. but i agree , hopefully they kick that loser shitelve of the team as soon as they are done.
“Okay, set up behind Frigg’s shield for protection from the shards, and Best can break the mirrors with his Rock.”
“Ready…go!”
…
…
“Best?”
“I CAN’T DO IT!”
Dear God Best’s look kills me. I know i mentioned this before but it bears repeating. His ‘style’ is so uber-douche with his exposed body and popped collar. We should start calling the team Best and the new gastonian generation. You are no Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler sir.
Huh. This reminds me of a trap from one of the Conan the Barbarian movies. Is a weird gorilla/monster man gonna step out of the mirrors and proceed to maul our heroes?
Frigg’s face is adoorable here.
I’m hoping Best will reflect on his past misdeeds.
There is a great many points of view to consider.
I’m sure they’ll examine it from every angle.
See, now you’re just being a pane.
Let’s hope nothing shatters the current peaceful situation.
I’m going to have to mirror these sentiments.
This chicanery requires further reflection.
This mirror trap is going to take some looking in to.
It is definitely the Best trap I’ve ever seen.
Reflect is indeed warranted, lest this campaign go through the looking glass.
Now it’s time for them to come up with an image-inative solution.
There are an infinite number to choose from.
Each solution chosen has its own reflection which is chosen in the reflection as a reflection of your reflection on its reflection. We call this a Reflex.
.. and the Reflex, is a lonely child..
And then their reflections started to step out of the mirrors.
Nah.
This is the room of crazy introspection where they realize they’re actually in a game and see their true selves.
Not unless the creators have been reading way too much Robert Jordan.
Winter’s Heart for me, was too much Robert Jordan, heh

I put the book down right there
If you skip that chapter (and I’d advise it – it’s not especially well written), then the series improves considerably thereafter.
People often say that one should look at oneself in the mirror as a gesture of enlightened humbleness. Best obviously has that covered (thoroughly), yet another example of his superiority.
And he’ll totally tell you so.
I look in the mirror to see what is behind me… but some backwards oaf keeps getting in the way.
This certainly gives our heroes something to reflect on.
This trap is going to take some looking in to. It’ll take a mirror-cle to peel Best away from his own reflection(s).
I think the bard has finally been Bested.
Mirror, mirror of them all who’s the Bestest of them all?
Oops.
I love Byron’s expression in panel 3.
So…anyone think they might see their Sepia Selves in these mirrors?
That’d be interesting, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
I think not. Deadelus wouldn’t allow that. Unless, of course, there’s another misterious force in play. That would be interesting.
It’s the Best trap!
Well, thats why Best needed companions in this jig, after all.
I love the guy, but if he was alone, he would probably just pull a narcisus and end up dead in that room, just contemplating himself.
Poor Gravedust is just growing senile now. He’s already started talking to “ghosts”!
I see allot of bad luck coming their way.
amazing detail in reflections. good work mr. waltrip!
Thank you, Swordsister. I can’t tell you how long it took to get those reflections right!
Just being curious, do you have animation background?
I did take a few animation classes in college, but I’ve not worked in the industry professionally.
Bravo, John. Those expressions are top notch.
Thanks, Doma. I’m gettin’ the hang of ’em.
Illusions. Whoo.
Has to be illusions, they’d notice a rotating room.
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the biggest douche of all?
That, my friend, I can’t tell thee,
For douching is no thing a mirror wants to see.
This comment won my day XD I just love you now.
Balls. I’m caught up. Oh, well. Here we go on yet another webcomic I need to check every time it updates! And I’d finished one, too. :P
Just so you know, bashing F5 is nothing to be ashamed of.
Gaffer-tape will save your fingers.
I bashed that. What does F5 do? :D
Refresh. It’s faster than Alt-F4.
Reminds me of the raccoon trap from Where the Red Fern Grows. Bait in a small hole, where they can reach in but can’t get out while making a fist. Apparently the raccoon will never let go of the bait.

Without meaning to sound like a kissass, I really just love the way the new guy is drawing Frigg.
-sighs- WHY does he have to be a part of the party again?
because he is the quest giver, sort of. and they owe him one. but i agree , hopefully they kick that loser shitelve of the team as soon as they are done.
Because him being a douche is funny.
Wow, i finally caught up with the comic :) but now i have to wait for the next part.. :(
So there is only one thing to do now: http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com/
This better be RvB related.
Forget the smile and the very literal narcissism…
Best’s biggest act of douchebaggery in today’s strip is spelling it “magicKal.” :-)
Damn’t, you stole my comment. Was going to say something along the lines of even his speech bubbles are douchey. Well played sir.
I am suddenly having flashbacks to Conan the Destroyer…
I KNOW YOU’RE BEHIND ONE OF THESE MIRRORS, WIZARD
BUT WHICH ONE
WHICH ONE????
For once I have a song for the situation!!!
Objects in the mirror may be douchier than they appear?
“Okay, set up behind Frigg’s shield for protection from the shards, and Best can break the mirrors with his Rock.”
“Ready…go!”
…
…
“Best?”
“I CAN’T DO IT!”
Gold Star.
Forget doppelganger, we’re going stright to octodecalganger.
I just love Byron’s face in panel 3. Reflects exactly what my face was like while reading first panel.
Dear God Best’s look kills me. I know i mentioned this before but it bears repeating. His ‘style’ is so uber-douche with his exposed body and popped collar. We should start calling the team Best and the new gastonian generation. You are no Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler sir.
The Narcissus Trap.
Reminds me of a book I once read, “The Shit-elf of the Narcissus”.
And the famous surrealist painting: The Metamorphosis of the Shit-Elf.
I notice that none of the mirrors reflect archways other than their own.
Huh. This reminds me of a trap from one of the Conan the Barbarian movies. Is a weird gorilla/monster man gonna step out of the mirrors and proceed to maul our heroes?
Floor and ceiling are black.
That’s unusual.
But has anyone invented the bard-proof fool trap yet?
Handy tool sitting on a weigh-trigger of falling ceiling. A bard never touches those.
Wait… I got something wrong. Didn’t I?
Any violence in there is going to be absolutely smashing
