Unless you’ve got at least three books within arm’s reach, each read halfway through, and you started them all within the last twenty-four hours…You’re a casual reader. :)
Now that you mention it, he has been rather quiet of late. Out of curiosity, I checked the archives and the last time he had any lines was when he was expositing about the Savasi in chapter 21.
Or, you know, a non-volitile storage medium that does not require power and literally can last millenia. But hey, technological determinism is obviously so tried and true, right?
Your “non-volitile storage medium” still needs light to use, protection from external conditions, and is vulnerable to all sorts of natural hazards. Additionally, its data storage capacity is exceedingly low… and making copies takes inordinately longer, with far more loss. If one was going for durability, one might as well resort to stonemasonry or metalwork.
But amidst all of this you’re kinda missing the point : it isn’t a competition. Libraries are still around. They just aren’t the most efficient source for finding relevant data any more. Perhaps in the event of the downfall of civilization, they might regain that role… but for now… no.
But, unlike Wikipedia for example, books are not “user editable.” Once a book is written, it can’t be changed by political climate or social issues…The only way to change it is to destroy it. The Wisdom of the Ages is preserved far better than the ephemeral nature of electronics can do.
CASUAL READERS BOW OUT NOW
The nerd army is coming.
Appropriate gravvy is appropriate :P
Nerd Army ? No. It’s Knowledge Army.
*Raises a hand* How do we define casual reader?
Unless you’ve got at least three books within arm’s reach, each read halfway through, and you started them all within the last twenty-four hours…You’re a casual reader. :)
What if it’s a hundred books, six of which have been completely read within the last week?
I guess it’s good too in that case.
You might be a casual reader, if…
You’ve memorized fewer call numbers than booty-call numbers
This is pure awesome.
Panel 2: The guy on the far right with the glasses agrees with you, I think.
That guy is the highlight of this strip for me. He’s just so happy! It makes me grin.
Rectrus?
*White Rabbit plays in the background*
I love the smell of printing ink in the morning.
Casual readers don’t surf, son !
Seriously, other than for comic relief, why is Frigg there?
Keep in mind that the last time Frigg visited a library, it was allot more interesting…
http://guildedage.net/comic/chapter-10-page-15/
yea, but i don’t think we have to worry about those guys this time.
Gravedust is all “Bitch, please. I write books for breakfast.”
You know, I keep forgetting that my gravatar is pissed-off Syr’nj now until I post a comment and see it.
I literally cannot remember the last time Gravedust had a line.
Where is the Gravedust love?! He better have a significant role in this chapter…
Now that you mention it, he has been rather quiet of late. Out of curiosity, I checked the archives and the last time he had any lines was when he was expositing about the Savasi in chapter 21.
…Extend family?
Other adventurers, presumably.
Mama Bear’s son both of them, I suppose
With Sundar and Rendar, it looks like two men enter, one man reads.
+1
Ha! Good one.
Ah, so we have a face to tie to lectrus, along with a very creepy beard…
Great page.
I love Sundar’s reaction. “Hey, I’m game to bite the head off of a goblin any day, but THOSE things in the shelves there are just unnatural!”
Unnatural ? Meh … Reading is not for wussies. ALL HAIL AND FEAR THE POWER OF THE BOOK !! Bad grammar users and shitty orthographers, beware !!
See, for example, the Librarian.
I guess you could say that Frigg and Sundar are ready to..
Book it.
And of course I imagine the cat in your avatar doing the BADUM-TISH
Well played
Looks like half will head out to rally the troops (or whatever), and half will hit the books.
I wonder which half Rachel, E-Merl, and Bandit will be in?
Wasn’t rallying their extended family what got them into trouble in the first place?
Rachel is there, with a smile, between SourDust and Grin-man
Weird….
Where’s the NPC for guild creation ? xD
By the way this must be the most fearsome quest they ever had xD
Sundar knows the might of the sword.
Rendar knows the might of the pen.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls… Readin’ time’s here.
Anyone else love the grinning glasses Guy’s name is Lectrus?
MOTHER DUCKING LECTRUS.
Oh god my Grav just ducking fits.
Lectrus is so disturbing….
I think either he’s got a crush on Kur’ik, or he’s got a kink for papercuts.
I call dibs on the franchise to supply the bandages here!
This calls for some serious reader-ship.
Lectrus has found his true calling and his One True Pair.
She might be more than he can handle. That Wood Elf looks like she could grind his woody into pulp fiction.
I love that Frigg is even there.
Gravedust: “Challenge accepted.”
Two scholars enter! No scholar leaves!
Release the Dreaded Giant BookWorm of the Citadel!
Good day for this page. :)
Byron sees his chance to change title from “berserker” to “book-reader”.
THUNDERTOME is now my most favorite word.
Ah yes, libraries.
Like Google for the technologically primitive.
Or, you know, a non-volitile storage medium that does not require power and literally can last millenia. But hey, technological determinism is obviously so tried and true, right?

I see the developers did some homework when building the library: http://geodublin.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/longroom.jpg
I would have gone with the Bodleian myself but I like hammerbeam roofs: http://www.ledochowicz.com/userfiles/image/o%20wydawnictwach/Bodleian%2004.jpg
remember kids: Read Or Die.
:3
I read Frigg’s line in the voice of Lana Kane from Archer
I love the old guy on the side!!! He looks so happy!!! It’s like “AT LAST MY TIME HAS COME!!! whooooooo!! lets do this!!!” type of deal.
I’m not sure which I love more, the highlighter bandolier or the multi-lens magnifying goggles.
