He’s made contact with the players?
He’s brought a cultist into Sepiaworld?
He’s turned Ferris’s hand into a Powerglove and used that to control his own character in the game?
Actually, come to think of it, why hasn’t HR just created his own character and used that to communicate with the heroes? They’d think he was crazy at first, of course, but it shouldn’t be too hard for him to work up a miracle or two to prove himself, given what he’s done so far.
but didn’t he, sort of? I guess he didn’t make an avatar but he did make himself known several pages back. It was to that cult though, not the players we know and love. So…still not really helpful I guess.
But really, have we seen anyone in the other world behaving like someone controlled by someone else, or behaving like a character in a video game? Not one person running into a wall, no one yelling “BRB Bio”, nor mentioning a life away from the game. I get the impression that players aren’t really playing the game, they just think they are.
Actually it turns out it’s not a breakthrough but rather a break through something that HR made. Probably punched through a window or pooped his pants. While magicking, you know.
I tried out the “mask my email” thing from the “do no track me” app but it screwed up my gravatar and I guess the GA site registered it as a different account so that’ll explain the comment that has my nick but a different avatar once it goes through moderation.
This is Shanna Cochrane, Closet Geek. She can turn it on and off at will, it’s her super power.
What surprises me is that she believes there can’t be magick, after all she’s seen with the group that turned into Team Alpha. Unless I’m thinking of an alternate history, which would make sense.
Pffft, so wait, she can’t remember the name of Lord of the Rings, but she can easily remember its production history.
The first thing in my mind when she said “midgets in New Zealand” was some porno. Because it sounds like the title to one.
Don’t you remember what Shanna was like before she got tangled up with the group in “Fans!”? Total closet geek. Knowing that fact while pretending not to know the obvious fan detail is 100% in character.
To the point that I have to ask: Are the creators of “Fans!” at all involved in / consulted about the writing of Shanna?
Am I the only one who noticed that, even though it looks like Carol completely caved, she revealed absolutely nothing of substance this entire interview?
That’s a possibility, but the only reason for Carol to fake a breakdown is to either murder Shanna or trap her in a tube. I think Carol could be capable of murdering someone, but not as Plan A, so to speak. Trapping her in a tube would, I think, take more time to plan than Carol was shown having.
There’s no such thing as majick? Well, what about time travel, alien monsters, etc?
This confirms it for me: this Shanna is based on the Shanna of FAANS, but the two are not the same.
Kinda like evil psion Charlotte in the last chapter of FAANS was based on (but not the same as) the Charlotte of Penny and Aggie.
In most RPGs, magic works out to be rational, and more or less just a domain of science and technology: maybe it’s got some strange aspects to it, but it has clear rules which can be understood, so that you can have player characters that can use it reliably.
By contrast, a lot of speculative fiction, especially set in what appears to be the real world, tends to portray magic as fundamentally irrational.
In other words, the magic Emerl uses isn’t going to be much like the “magick” that HR tries to use.
Then agin, it might be pretty much zackly like what Emerl does. I cant believe how many sepia panels we are getting. Speaking for myself I am grateful. Suspense is killin me. I am on the edge of my seat. Meanwhile back at the ranch.
“You said you needed me for something?”
“Yes. I’ve only been able to use the screens to watch the world we created, but today I think I managed to use them to view a different world. But with the nature of the spell, it’s possible that it’s just wishful thinking – that I’m just seeing what I want to see. Could you look at screen five and tell me what you see?”
“It’s…”
“Yes?”
“It’s a Starbuohmygod”
“Thank you, Carol. You have been most helpful.”
Mmm… Well this is rather odd. The cell message could be: her lof of HR texting her… So she’s sad over ‘betrayal’. But it could also be her message to HIM. Right now. Plus that cold determined look in the eyes in the last frame so different from the weepy eyes earlier. Odd. Im going to say Shanna thinks Carol is likely crazy now. Possibly Carol trying to lure her to the basement? Seems too obvious to fall for… On a random note. Elf, dwarf, berseker, and Frigg. Where is the player of the Elf again? Did he reroll that orc drummer? Feel like I am missing something other than names.
Messaging app convention goes like this, if I’m not mistaken: Your messages are displayed on the right side, the other person’s messages are displayed on the left side.

A powerglove? He is obviously making a Hand of Glory.
I was thinking more like the Hand of Vecna, but that works too.
Any or all of the above. OOOOh I can hardly wait to find out.
but didn’t he, sort of? I guess he didn’t make an avatar but he did make himself known several pages back. It was to that cult though, not the players we know and love. So…still not really helpful I guess.
Probably an emotional breakthrough. “Geez, Carol, I’m sorry I’ve been such a douche!”
But really, have we seen anyone in the other world behaving like someone controlled by someone else, or behaving like a character in a video game? Look at what Carol entered his name as in her phone.
BIG BOSS HR
BIG BOSS HARKY
I have a guess as to what his “breakthrough” is now… maybe HR is gonna get his own avatar after all.
So, the key that she left in the elevator lock was the BIG BOSS HR KEY?
Actually it turns out it’s not a breakthrough but rather a break through something that HR made. Probably punched through a window or pooped his pants. While magicking, you know.
*test*

Yours truly,
Derp.
No, I’m durp.
I love your face durp. Very apropo.
Wow, this woman is clearly in over her depth if she can’t even remember the name of Lord of the Rings.
THEY’RE TAKING THE MIDGETS TO WELLINGTON
You mean ‘Wellywood’

Confirmed alternate history.
It’s so much fun to read the comments from people who’re not familiar with Shanna. :D
Pffft, so wait, she can’t remember the name of Lord of the Rings, but she can easily remember its production history.

T Campbell is the creator of Fans! The writer, specifically.
Jason Waltrip also a creator of fans, n’est pas?
He was, indeed.
I meant to say “a” creator. v__v;;
How did I not notice that name before?
I literally only noticed it right as I clicked on the link to the comic just now.
It is here. I actually need to read Fans!
Actually, if you google you will find that is a porno movie
Yeah, I was somewhat sympathetic to her before, but now Shanna needs to die for those comments about Lord of the Rings
Wow, check your Anti-closet-geek-aggression…
Am I the only one who noticed that, even though it looks like Carol completely caved, she revealed absolutely nothing of substance this entire interview?
Revealing? I don’t think so. Confirming? More likely.
She revealed something of substance.
It’s just that Shanna doesn’t believe her and now concludes she’s just crazy or brainwashed.
There’s no such thing as majick? Well, what about time travel, alien monsters, etc?

Kinda like evil psion Charlotte in the last chapter of FAANS was based on (but not the same as) the Charlotte of Penny and Aggie.
…We already knew this was a different Shanna.
There’s a setup for an interesting contrast here.
