OMG we been listnin to the smartest guy in the room’s stream of conscious when until today I thought it was that bunny rabbit because of the alt text on page one. How bot that? U go Gob!
I am the very model of mechanical major general,
I’ve got curses impossible, anatomical and scatological,
I can cuss your ears off in order categorical….
For my military knowledge, though I’m plucky and adventury,
Has only been brought down to the beginning of the century;
But still, in curses impossible, anatomical and scatological,
I am the very model of a mechanical major general!
Few too many syllables on those lines I’m afraid, would make it too hard to sing to the songs rhythm. (I performed in Pirates of Pezance, so going by experience here)
That’s life, that’s what all the people say
You’re ridin’ high in April, shot down in May
But I know I’m gonna change that tune
When I’m back on top, back on top in June
I said that’s life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stompin’ on a dream
But I don’t let it, let it get me down
’cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin’ around
I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I’ve been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race
That’s life, I tell you I can’t deny it
I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain’t gonna buy it
And if I didn’t think it was worth one single try
I’d jump right on a big bird and then I’d fly
I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I’ve been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin’ flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That’s life, that’s life and I can’t deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin’ out but my heart won’t buy it
But if there’s nothin’ shakin’ come this here July
I’m gonna roll myself up in a big ball a-and die
Please do not use the word “Decimate” which actually means to reduce by 10%, when you mean “Devastate.” these words are constantly being confused with each other, and they are not interchangeable (no matter how many times FOX NEWS may misuse them.)
although not entirely interchangeable, i think they mimic each others spirit. on the one hand, you aim to destroy everything, on the other, you are 10% short of doing it;D
They only mimic each other in spirit because killing every tenth man of your own legion is a very severe punishment. And losing a lot of soldiers in combat could also be called “a very severe punishment”. If you try to completely destroy your enemies and only succeed in “decimating” them, you don’t fall short by 10%. You fall short by 90%. And in my book, that is a lot of difference.
However, losing 10% of your troops on the battlefield might very well be enough to cost you the battle, so Goblaurance doesn’t have to be wrong. Especially since that’s only accounting for what the airships are doing.
Then again, Arkerra is a game world, so I guess it’s all or nothing, and no such thing as a disorganised route where one army panics and the victorious cavalry massacres the fleeing soldiers who’ve thrown away their weapons and shields so they can run faster because they have only one life to live. 10% might just be 10% of a life bar. No biggie, just go for a combo or whatever. And if it turns to 100%, just respawn.
Please don’t use the word “fantastic” unless the thing in question is actually from a fantasy.
Please don’t use the word “incredible” unless the speaker didn’t actually cite their sources.
Please don’t use the word “vitriol” unless you’re referring to actual sulphuric acid.
Please don’t use the word “melancholy” unless you’re referring to an excess of black bile in the 4 humours.
Please don’t use the word “moron” unless you’re referring to an adult with a mental age between 8 and 12.

Meaning is fluid, especially in language and art, this ain’t enginneering now is it?
Context, intent, how it scans and flows, all these things come into play. “Decimate” and “Devastate” are close enough in meaning that they can, and often are, used interchangeably. Theire actual meanings are quite different it is true, but that is not an impediment to their use in a creative work.
Also, for heavens sake, unclench. You’re gonna kill that poor woodland rodent.
Oh shit, our fliers are dropping like flies.
Getting major GoW Baird flashbacks in that last panel. Very nice.
Problem #4… nuff said.
#2 is a bigger issue. What genius doesn’t have an endless crowd of “assistants” to experiment on… err assist?
I’ve heard it said that “Life is what happens to you while you’re making other plans.” Problem #4 emphasizes it.
Combat is a bitch when you don’t have any bullets! (language cleaned up for politeness)

Generic avians are no good here. They need Hawkmen for this. Diiiiiive!
Goblaurence’s alive!
Gordins allliiiiive!
Goblaurence, thou art the embodiment of melancholic genius.

But good try anyway.
I am not a poet, and I know it.
According to your avatar in usage, you’re certainly no Longfellow.
O?MG I B Brother Tooooooooooooooooooooooooom this chapter. How kewl izzat?
So he’s putting together his own Flak Track on the field to counter the enemy Kirovs? Bold strategy.
Helium mix optimal. Bombardiers to your stations!
Aaahhh, the sounds of destruction!
…kill the fuckin’ gobshite out of me.
FTFY
One might paraphrase…
“So it goes”
A particularly apt phrase in the middle of a carpet bombing.
I see what you did there, and thank you for it.
Busy, busy, busy.
Is Goblaurence going to break into song now?
Ah well…That’s life
(*Landshark backing group* That’s liiife!)
That’s what people say,
You join an elite group in April,
Get blown up by bombs in May…
He’s making a bazooka on impromptu.
BAZOOKA ON IMPROMPTU
If it’s a historically-accurate bazooka he’d better pray he hits one of those things on the first shot!
Extermination is the mother of bazookas.
He solves practical problems.
‘e’s a bloody stoic, is what he is.
Gotta say I really like gobulaurane after this
Shame he is of the enemy though
Goblaurence works for Gastonia?! Slander!

You know, I love how this whole song is about how not giving up, and then in the last two lines, Sinatra sings “I’m gonna give up in August.” WTF?

This. It is great.
If you destroy all of something, has it been… unimated?
If they are only losing 10% to the airships, they aren’t doing too bad.
YOU? Decimate ME? HAH! Well, I’ll MILLIMATE – no, MICROMATE – you.
BTW, micromating = 90 seconds of intimate coupling?
You might want to update your understanding of the English language.

Time to make some plot armor!
Those are some terrifying jazz hands
Has it been officially made known that Goblaurence has Mark Sheppards voice yet? No? Yes?
Because if it hasn’t, then it bloody well should be.
