You can spend decades building your career / reputation / life, and one F-up can destroy it all in seconds.
Have sweet dreams mulling over that thought.
Actually, I find it kind of reassuring that even the people you look up to probably still have the little voice saying “Am I doing it right? Am I doing it right? Oh, man, I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m probably about to mess up everything.” It puts us all on a more equal footing.
But I guess different people take different lessons from that idea…
It’s the best people that worry about how good they are at something. Those are the people that continue to self-improve in order to avoid circumstance and tend to be the best.
Those who are confident they’re great at something inevitably run into surprises when they run into something they do not recognize.
Fr’nj is finally returning to the natural state of sentient life. IMHO, anyone who isn’t questioning themselves is in danger of becoming a blind zealot. Questions lead to answers, which lead to progress.
The thing is, she’s questionning herself about whether she should have saved her sis’ life by harming another, or letting it go. But that mentality is almost nothin but a failed one, in times of war.
She says she wants to be a pacifist, but a warring country has no need for pacifists.
Okay, being a Pacifist does not mean you can not, or will not, fight, it just means you want to resolve things peacefully if possible rather than going in and knocking heads off straight off the bat
Some pacifists would disagree with that, such as pacifists in WW1 and WW2. Some served by choosing to take completely noncombatant roles but otherwise helped in the military effort. A fewer bunch refused to have anything to do at all with the wars, such as Britain’s conscientious objectors in WW1. They morally could not fight in any way and in actuality did not. The definition you presented is just one specific possible form of it and cannot be used as a general term to cover all of it.
What’s more, I’d say that definition could be stretched to include all of the Peacemakers (okay, except Frigg) and possibly even folks like Penk and Iwatani. Not fighting when you don’t have to is just good sense. And people like Bert, who are not fighting Cultists right now but because they can’t, not because they don’t want to… I don’t really count them either. To be a pacifist in wartime and for that label to really mean something to others, I think you have to remain nonviolent even when it’s highly inconvenient.
“To be a pacifist in wartime and for that label to really mean something to others, I think you have to remain nonviolent even when it’s highly inconvenient.”
Then, being a pacifist in wartime is the worst position?
It wasn’t just Britain who had Conscientious Objectors, and if you believe they didn’t end up on the front line you have been lied to: many still were forced to go and tortured by their own people, if not executed for it
Didn’t say that was the only definition, just pointing out that some still do fight, because they see no alternative (and they understand that if they don’t, people they care about will die, or worse)
Magical healing. The tats probably were scarred beyond recognition. But the magic of wood elves fixed them and probably gave her a nice pine scent. ;-)
From experience, most of the time, if you’re trying to do what you believe is right and it’s easy, chances are you’re doing it wrong.
(Although I know people who’d disagree.)
You know, you explained how Syr’nj’s name is pronounced a long while back, but I never bothered pronouncing Fr’nj’s name in my head until now! “Syringe” and “Fringe”, I love them both!
Damn, I was hoping that they had an answer to that one.
Oh dear god, what have these hands done!
That hovertext kinda made me feel bad. Like, about myself.
When bad people fuck up being bad, the result can be good. So, it’s possible to be a fuck up and a good person.
Yep. I fucked up at fucking up, and now my life is one long, miserable success.
That Gravatar… so cheeky…

“The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.” – Bertrand Russell
Dunning-Kruger ;)
Interesting. I didn’t realize this was an actual psychological phenomenon.
Oh, it doesn’t even have to be YOU that fucks up for that to happen.
What you just said reminds me of a Life’s Lesson that I got from the video game, Tetris; successes disappear, failures accumulate.
…At this point in my life, I’ve only got one or two more empty rows at the top of my screen…

Oh me? I’m definitely a fuck up. No surprises there.
Yeah, it’s exam season over here, so… eep.
Nice word balloon placement in panel 2. You’re like Nancy Reagan – “Don’t do crack”.
Reminds me of what Jadzea Dax would reply when asked how far down her spots went.
“All the way” she’d say with all the intonation of a dirty old man.
If by “nice” you mean “disappointing”, then we are in agreement.
Agreed with your agreement (any chance of seeing that panel in silence?)
It’s purpose is to sell more subscriptions. Either that, or Syr’Nj’s practicing ventriloquism.
How do you make that funny HTML anchor tag work? That was supposed to say “sell more GAPlus subscriptions”, with a link on the GAPlus.
Seems to have worked fine!

Not all questions should be answered. “How many decapitated heads can I fit in my freezer”, was one I should never have asked…
Replace heads with ripe Melons and you can find out your answer with less hassle.
The thing is, she’s questionning herself about whether she should have saved her sis’ life by harming another, or letting it go. But that mentality is almost nothin but a failed one, in times of war.
She says she wants to be a pacifist, but a warring country has no need for pacifists.
When you stop wondering, you’ve lost.
Don’t worry Fr’Nj, you’re not a fighter. More like a support caster.
Walking wand of cure light wounds? She does have a bit of a wooden personality…
Adult Hood. The often permanent state of wondering if you’re doing the right thing and trying not to fuck anything up
I think the word you’re looking for is “adulthood.”
Easily corrupted… good, good.

I’ve heard of a speech bubble, and I’ve heard of a bubble butt, but never have I heard of a speech bubble butt
i, for one, am glad her tattoos are still in tact
Yeah, makes you wonder if they’re actually tattoos at all if they survived the burns like that.
Magical healing. The tats probably were scarred beyond recognition. But the magic of wood elves fixed them and probably gave her a nice pine scent. ;-)
Who had the task of polishing her wood?

(Although I know people who’d disagree.)
I’d love to see some interaction between sky elves and wood. Even in the sky elf city, we haven’t seen much inter-subspecies anything.
If you ask this one, the day you *stop* caring is when you should step back, for that path leads to the abyss.
My first thought was to liken it to weeding. Then I realized that such a frame of mind could lead to dangerous places.
Then I wondered what wood elves would actually think of weeding…
to truly fight evil, you must become evil…
So to fight a murderer, you must become one? O_o

She’s worried that she could become the Lunatic Fr’Nj. ;)
