The preceding was a test of the emergency heart quality identifying system. This was only a test. Had this been an actual emergency, JJ would be entering the back door with a rope and knives … Well, speak o’ the devil, here he comes now.
She did spend most of her life as the sort of person who WOULD have sold it. He just needed to see if she was still that sort of person or if she had let her inner self out. No person who is “evil” or “selfish” is one dimensional inside. They have a better and integrity laden part of themselves along with a hundred different hues. Whether they choose to bring this out is what defines them.
She has chosen to become more than she was, fight for a cause because it is the right thing to do and she is that person in that place, who can do it.
She may have not met our heroes but she is definitely their kin as sure as teach of them are themselves.
No person who is “evil” or “selfish” is one dimensional inside.
With you so far…
They have a better and integrity laden part of themselves
DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! I’m not saying this isn’t right 99% of the time, but that 1% will take you for everything you have while you try to help them find inner angels which were never there.
Nope, don’t be sorry, you caught me. Caught me making a lazy, poorly thought-out joke. I should have paid more attention to the previous page, but now it’s too late. All shall see my shame, a testament for years to come.
Because portraying intelligence in fiction is damned difficult.
The intelligence of a character cannot readily exceed that of its operator. If the writer is smart then the character can be smart. If the writer is stupid then the character will be stupid.
Writers will generally try to get by this by using contrived cleverness techniques. One of the main ones is giving them knowledge that the writer themselves wouldn’t have any means of knowing in their position… i.e. they “just know” things and you (the reader) are left to fill in the gaps as to how they figured this out. That way they come across as intelligent because they figure things out easily… while conveniently forgetting that the character, the world they exist in and the circumstances that surround them are all orchestrated by the same mind.
Unfortunately… it is damned difficult to avoid this sort of situation unless there are multiple creators explicitly keeping information from each other for the sake of a collaborative work. Even genuine intelligence transferred to fiction can come out the other end looking contrived.
Why does he have to be -one- of the extras we’ve seen? He multiboxes. It’s possible he is Bandit, Skipio, E-merl and even Rachael all in one. Maybe he made his own “team” to interact with and follow the main characters?
…I might have considered it. Not for the money – but simply for the fact that he actually can reach more people with more ease and potentially less risk.
But.
I don’t think I’d be able to let go of a story where I’d personally promised to help so many, either.
And here she is without a #2 pencil.
If the rest of the comments on today’s page are any indication, the readership of this comic just might not pass…
To jab up his nose?
For a magic trick.

Test your right.
Fight!
Moral Combat!
Hmm, Frigg’s mom mayhap?
Looks more like Syr’s to me.
Ackerton/Ackerfeldt… leaning towards Frigg.
Pretty sure that’s Shanna’s mom
Because she would obviously call her own mother Mrs. Ackerton when speaking to her. Obviously.
I always call your mom Mrs. Ackerton.
More to the point, Shanna’s mother is in a mental institution and probably would not be directly reachable by phone.
Because subtext
is her first name “Freyja”?
I’m already liking this guy more and more
Is it my imagination, or does this guy have Bandit’s nose?
… Now that you say that I see it too
I think he does.
thank you! I thought he looked familiar, too.
(don’t mind me, just catching up again)
Not shown: Xan’s phone dying of shock after contacting an actual landline telephone.
Unlimited talk and text, 4G data, unparallelled coverage, sure. But I didn’t sign up for THIS.
Oh don’t be silly. It’s just a add-on for the iphone. The iRetro-Grip.
Complete with foot tangling cord.
No, seriously.
I guess Xan could never call me, then. :/
Xan is quickly becoming one of the most likable and brilliant characters in this series.
Looking a bit like E-merl certainly didnt hurt his starting position.
Seriously? o_O
This has been a test of the emergency good guy system. This was only a test.
Well damnit I didn’t see the other guy make the joke earlier.
Double blind trial?

Nope, I just wanted your phone. GOTTA RUN
It was his in the first place. Sorry if you meant it as a joke.

I wonder what sort of character Shanna will roll up.
Inquisitor?
A test? No, that would be really dumb. I just have a soft spot for mothers with lost daughters.
We’re getting into Joss Whedon levels of clever, here. EVERYONE IS CLEVER.
Contrived cleverness.

I think it’s Penk. The nose and the eyes. Enjoying this arc very much.
The hair, the chin scruff.
It’s really not subtle.
Hah! Knew he was a good guy.
Is nobody going to point out the Sony branded Android iPhone!!??
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… alternate… universe?
BECAUSE REASONS.
Xan has a weird sense of humor and a talent for modifying hardware?
Sony does have Sony Xperia Android and where do you get iphone?
Why does he have to be -one- of the extras we’ve seen? He multiboxes. It’s possible he is Bandit, Skipio, E-merl and even Rachael all in one. Maybe he made his own “team” to interact with and follow the main characters?
Take an image of this guy, and put it riiiight next to a close up of Penk. Lemme know what you discover.
Fava beans and Chianti, Xan. Fava beans and Chianti.
Still don’t like the little creep
