In a situation like this, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see evil-aligned characters favoring temporary alliance in the interest of self-preservation. I would say, rather, that Sundar is taking his stupid alignment seriously.
Because saving your enemies is totes the ‘stupid’ thing to do. I’m with Sundar. Let it snack on the World’s Rebellion for a while and then frag it. That’s 62 asswipes fewer Harky has for his campaign of genocide–or has everyone forgotten that’s what the WR wants?
PCs can motor through that pretty easily, and it can eat faceless mooks to hit 62 just as easily as enemy heroes. If it had to eat 62 heroes, it might be tempting…
And what are the chances they’ll be able to scarf-block it if they can’t allow it even one more snack? Better to start the battle before it builds strength, then go back to killing each other afterwards
I think also worth mentioning is the psychology of the Adventurer. These are all warriors but not soldiers, people who are used to being given a lot of free reign in terms of how to complete their missions/stay alive.
While this history means adventurers are perhaps more prone to abiding by their own moral system rather than someone else’s, it also gives them a greater prerogative to talk these things out. Sparing an enemy’s life so they can talk is exactly the kind of decision an adventurer could make but a soldier couldn’t.
But why would you bother in a case like this? They’re already pledged to your destruction and the slaughter of everyone you know (see Penk’s little temper-tantrum before the airship wreckage fragged the fort the WR was assaulting from a chapter or two ago). There’s literally nothing to discuss with Penk and company except how best to ensure the troll dies and stays that way.
There is considerable irony in your comments going, in order, “The World’s Rebellion believes in genocide” and “so genocide them!” But it is exactly how mustache-guy and other Gastonian patriots see it (except the ones who only need one statement, that nonhumans need to be put in their place, by extermination if necessary).
Gravedust’s comment suggests that getting destroyed by the beast isn’t a regular death, but rather something worse (soul eating / permadeath / character deletion). There is a LOT of room to draw a moral distinction between killing someone and erasing their soul, just like there’s a huge difference between PvPing a player and getting their account deleted/permabanned.
PvP would make a lot of difference if the defeated *player* died & YOU are the one who killed them. The only ones who would play in that case would be certified psychotics.
The whole point of letting to forces opposed to you kill each other is that at the end of the fight, both of them are weaker. However, since it seems a foregone conclusion that the Beast will win, that tactic wont work. In fact, it will backfire.
Because where you once had two forces fighting each other, you will now have a single force that is now as strong as the previous two combined and which doesnt need to worry about morale or other issues that a grouo of individuals had.
Congratulations, you just fed your enemies to the Borg. Prepare to be assimilated, asshole.
Heroic sacrifice? Maybe at some point. But I think that panel is foreshadowing that. It seems more like she’s do some deep thinking (deep as relative to Frigg in anycase).
Does anyone have the scenes with Frigg’s wolf god visions bookmarked? All I can remember is that the wolf god encouraged her to defy authority. Which may very well be what she needs to do if there is any chance between the guild and Penk’s crew to form an alliance of any sort.
I donno- whenever I play an unwise character, I always pull a pregnant pause like that before I rush down to kill shit…. (or throw the biggest spell I know at it) She might not respond verbally.
And just how much stronger will the monster be after absorbing a troll God avatar and a mystic who can harness lava? It may not be 62 lives, but I’d estimate it would be just about there.
Isn’t she the only one there with massive energy constructs? Probably the only one who can hurt it without being erased, besides WAV. I think Rachel could try, but she doesn’t have the aura to go without being touched.
You made your entire comment parenthetic just to restore proper punctuation, thereby saving the rest of us from being demoted to inconsequential asides, while consigning yourself to that very same fate. Your noble sacrifice shall not be forgotten(!)
Her uncle was a Mystic, and she felt enough respect and affection for him not to badmouth him just to curry favour when they were picking champions. And the only reason she seemed to disagree with the Mystic ways was because she believed that the Savasi “need warriors” – and here’s Gravedust, who’s been a Mystic warrior since the first page we’ve seen him.
It might be itneresteing for Magda if they meet, is all.
Also, as I mentioned before, it may not be common knowledge that Ivar killed the Mystics so they couldn’t sway opinion away from joining the Rebellion.
Her uncle was the mystic Gravedust talked with in Frigg’s dream. It’s easily possible they knew each other, and at the very least, they’re probably the most reasonable of the Savasi.
One can clearly see on the Cyberian’s holo-screen that the monster follows the Pac-Man Principle. They should wait till it starts and stops blinking and then let Gravedust’s little friends deal with it.
To me, it looks like she might make a similar decision to when Byron told his team to stand down when they witnessed the Orcs being enslaved – it’s a huge battle that isn’t the right time or place for them to fight – and is appreciating the difficulty Byron felt at that time to reach that conclusion.
Or maybe she’s wondering if she can use her glowy hammershit to shut Sundar up from a distance.
Nah, I can’t see Frigg doing that and I am not really sure it applies in this case anyways.
Byron had them stand down to avoid an incident with the World’s Rebellion (whom they were not yet at war with) and because they were heavily out numbered. Here they have caught up to the beast they set out to kill and found it fighting another enemy of theirs. Taking immediate action with the orc slaves would have started the war early, while taking immediate action here might actually help towards achieving peace.
Reminds me of that one World of Warcraft world-raid boss that would get kitted all the way to Stormwind and proceed to become invincible because it could AoE hundreds of people at once and every kill healed it / made it stronger, and of course the capital city was full of lowbies to reap.
Yep. The poster boy for Overkill.
As a gamer myself (both RPG & MMO’s), I fully endorse the notion that there’s no such thing as overkill, because there IS such a thing as underkill.
The problem is when you’re enemy just doesn’t *do* underkill…
He’s the kind of person who needs direction methinks, ’cause obviously letting him think for himself on important decisions such as this is not the brightest idea.
Wait and watch for a short while.
The monster might consume them and get stronger… BUT they’re adventurers too… so they might be able to do considerable damage to it. AND if they get hurt in the process… swoop in and take THEM out!
So now we know which ones take their Good alignment seriously.

(Horde – 62) is still a big number.
PCs can motor through that pretty easily, and it can eat faceless mooks to hit 62 just as easily as enemy heroes. If it had to eat 62 heroes, it might be tempting…

That sums up the situation very nicely.
Especially the last sentence.
So now we know which ones take their Good alignment loudly.
Frigg’s gettin’ ready for some character development.
“That bitch fucked up my leg. If that thing fucks her up, I’ll never get even. I’m gonna kill it.”
*charges down slop*
“And nothing can stop me.”
They can’t stop her now?
Is she like an Atom Bomb? Is she ready to Explode?
More like she’s having a good time, so don’t. stop. her now. ‘Cause she’s having a good time, having a good time.
She’ll be burning through the skies, yeah, at 200 degrees – that’s why they call her Ms Fahrenheit.
Glowy hammershit at the speed of light -would- make her a supersonic woman.
More like an Atoner Bomb, if I’m not mistaken. Last panel seems to foreshadow a Heroic Sacrifice.
Heroic sacrifice? Maybe at some point. But I think that panel is foreshadowing that. It seems more like she’s do some deep thinking (deep as relative to Frigg in anycase).
Edit: “But I think that panel is foreshadowing that.” = “But I DON’T think that panel is foreshadowing that.”
… ‘cuz Frigg is really really shallow! *pa-dum tish*
You may be right. Deep thought it is. What happens next may surprise us.
Queen ref. :D
Indeed. This is the Cause, capital C, that her Wolf god has been preparing her to face since the comic started.
Does anyone have the scenes with Frigg’s wolf god visions bookmarked? All I can remember is that the wolf god encouraged her to defy authority. Which may very well be what she needs to do if there is any chance between the guild and Penk’s crew to form an alliance of any sort.

“Frigg Smash!!”
Sundar is BEST TACTICIAN
Not very big on that whole morality thing, though. Going from kidnapping kids to cheerfully consigning them to oblivion. What a guy!
Well, the kids are gone, and he never saw them in the first place. I think Sundar’s assuming it would be the 62 strongest warriors of the savage army.
Though I guess it actually wouldn’t, because of the evacuation. It would probably actually be 2 savage champions and the 60 slowest stragglers.
And just how much stronger will the monster be after absorbing a troll God avatar and a mystic who can harness lava? It may not be 62 lives, but I’d estimate it would be just about there.
If the third it ate was HAMMERHEAD then that’s it. Game over. Reboot universe.
Isn’t she the only one there with massive energy constructs? Probably the only one who can hurt it without being erased, besides WAV. I think Rachel could try, but she doesn’t have the aura to go without being touched.
Yes. I believe the technical term is ‘glowy hammershit’. Don’t forget, though, Gravedust at least has a ranged weapon with some magical ability.
The magic, though, seems to be reliant on using ghosts as fuel. We’ve seen what they think of being shot at it. (To whit, “NOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE”
Here, you dropped this. )
You made your entire comment parenthetic just to restore proper punctuation, thereby saving the rest of us from being demoted to inconsequential asides, while consigning yourself to that very same fate. Your noble sacrifice shall not be forgotten(!)
The grammar hero we need!
But not the grammar hero we deserve.
Fr’nj and Gravedust have bumper stickers that say “IT’S AN ELDRITCH ABOMINATION, NOT A CHOICE”
Ya’ll are missing the biggest issue, here.
Magda is about to meet Gravedust again for the first time since taking up her mantle. Shit is about to get real.
Is that an issue? Do they know each other? I must’ve been not paying attention for the past 30 chapters…

Ah, so pensive…

I’m expecting Frigg is just going to charge down the hill suddenly without saying anything. She just has that sort of look on her face.
To me, it looks like she might make a similar decision to when Byron told his team to stand down when they witnessed the Orcs being enslaved – it’s a huge battle that isn’t the right time or place for them to fight – and is appreciating the difficulty Byron felt at that time to reach that conclusion.

Frigg is concentrating on figuring out how to whup its ass thoroughly while you guys argue ethics.
…or trying to figure out which end is it’s ass so she can whup it…
Usually, the eyes are up front or on a thing’s head, soooooo…Go around to the side opposite of the eye?
Reminds me of that one World of Warcraft world-raid boss that would get kitted all the way to Stormwind and proceed to become invincible because it could AoE hundreds of people at once and every kill healed it / made it stronger, and of course the capital city was full of lowbies to reap.

Seems like a good video to get one in the mood for the coming fight.
Yep. The poster boy for Overkill.

Frigg’s gonna do the right thing. It’s pretty obvious that WAV is very right.
So… Frigg is gonna do WAV? I wouldn’t put it past her, I just feel the timing isn’t right.
I wonder how that would end.
“I am nearing completion. I….”
“Error 43, this function is no longer working correctly. Would you like to submit a report?”
That dude looks like he has pacman on his magic wrist computer mabobber.
Pacman comes standard on all magic wrist computer mabobbers. You need something to pass the time between raids, after all.
Hey, mine only has minesweeper and spider solitaire. WTF???
Mine’s got tetris and snake, I beat three levels while standing on the sidelines of the last battle
Your’s is obviously, a thingamagig model. You need the doohickey model to support Pacman.
Okay, fine. Just sixty one & a half. But that’s my final offer. ;-)
I sense Frigg is thinking which is rare thing
“I gotta get some spikier armor”
63 persons.
Or one fuzzy champion.
Sundar, what would Mama Bear do? I don’t think she’s be happy with your current suggestion.
…of course, she’s dead, so what does she know, anyway?
He’s the kind of person who needs direction methinks, ’cause obviously letting him think for himself on important decisions such as this is not the brightest idea.
Really hoping that Panel 1 gets added to the Avatar pool. That grin.
Were there no clouds and shading on this page yesterday, or am I just misremembering?
Wait and watch for a short while.
The monster might consume them and get stronger… BUT they’re adventurers too… so they might be able to do considerable damage to it. AND if they get hurt in the process… swoop in and take THEM out!
I come from the future bearing spoilers. Stuff happens. That is all.
