All that wood construction, and those crates and barrels on deck, and whatever all else is in belowdecks, and a measly half ton more is going to be of much consequence?
The right combination of gear sizes will cause a small amount of power to grow into something formidable. Think of multi-speed bikes, that can turn a fairly leisurely bike ride into one going the speed of a car in a residential area: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_gearing#Examples
It depends on the underlying physics model. If Arkerra’s physics model is a reasonably close approximation of the RealWorld’s, then sure, five worm bodies shouldn’t ought to make *that* much difference. But given Goblaurence’s reaction, I kinda suspect Arkerra’s physics model is a wee bit different from that of the RealWorld…
Weight and balance for Aircraft is exceptionally important, and is usually balanced to account for expected payload and crew. Im sure Gob could have mentioned the supply weight limit as well, but being that ol’ Gob was in a panicked rush it is much more practical and expedient to just mention the what relates to the unexpected additions throwing off the weight.
In the 60 seconds it takes for them to listen to Goblaurence and the additional 60 seconds it takes for them to actually pick up and toss the crates, I have a feeling the ship will be sideways and embedded in the hills.
I dunno, if Arkerra’s airship science is the equivalent of Earth’s rocket science, five extra crew members would be a pretty huge deal even for the best of engineers. ;)
And then they crash, everyone but the five dies, and they all are executed.
Again.
Everyone roll up new character sheets!
Everybody, roll for luck.
Darn, that was my dump stat…
It usually should be…but I always get suckered into putting a point into it every so often, anyways XD
ExhAurauguSted – a knoll condition of overexertion; dog-tired
That dog won’t fly.
Also acceptable: What’s Up Dogged, Aurauguairsick, Rapidly-turning-greyhound.
Perhaps Syr’Nj has a “pick me up” for our fuzzy friend? The first one’s always free. ;)
Anybody else read Auraugu’s pants as being creeperish?
He’s only a creeper if he starts taking them off.
I believe that’s the saddle he is sitting on.
Trying to figure out what you mean… but his trousers are the wrong colour to be those things from Minecraft…
“I cannae give it anymore, cap’n! The engine won’t take it!”
“Quickly! More doggy treats!”
DO NOT let him vent his core.
You got that right! Who’s going to pedal when Auraugu has to be taken for his walkies?
All that wood construction, and those crates and barrels on deck, and whatever all else is in belowdecks, and a measly half ton more is going to be of much consequence?
Those barrels are filled with hydrogen! Their purpose it to make the ship lighter!
I’m guessing in-game mechanics are messing with the physics here. I mean, it’s an airship propelled by a single exercise bike…

Gears will convert between torque and speed, but they can’t create more power out of thin air.
“Gravedust – I told you to stay to a strict diet! What’s that? … oh, yeah, riiiiight. Natural dwarf physiognomy my ass!”

Warmbodies. Five warm bodies. Friggin’ rented fingers…

Well Rana flew the coop so that’s at least one less person for the ship to carry.
Now it’s carrying nine, plus Best’s ego. So, fourteen.
Isn’t it bad enough that the ship’s crashing, without it being burned to the ground?
We got to lighten the load! Quick, throw the bat overboard!
“Come on,egghead, you will conjure up something, no?”
*CRASH*
“…totally worth it.”
“Shut up, Frigg.”
O, look who’s suddenly sporting a moustache in the Patreon banner. (Below the comic.)
Looks like Big Boss Harky will soon have a couple of gatecrashers at his doorstep… literally XD
Well then, WHY DIDN’T YOU SAY SO, GOBLAURENCE ?!
It’s more like a flying elevator then Gob.
Quick everyone jump up into the air!
I desperately need Glob’s reaction as a gravatar.
Or Auraugu’s panic exertion
If it was only built for five, then why not save on construction costs and just use a hot air balloon basket?
Says so right here in my notes! Breach hull, all die! Even have it underlined!
“Hey, remember that time I threw kids overboard and smacked you in the head?” :D
“Good times!” :D
Also, the last panel is pure greatness.
Dude just chuck the crates. If any of them contain what crates usually contain, u should be fine.
“What crates usually contain” — you mean unstable high explosives?

You know it’s serious when your mad scientist/eccentric engineer freak out…
I had to zoom in to figure out what was going with Byron’s head in panel 5.
It really looked like a WAV helmet, and I was confused. Who is that guy?
Only built to carry five and cargo? With no room for tolerance?
You’re not very good at this engineering thing Goblaurence.
Ya everything should be built with plenty of tolerance and plenty of contingencys
Or it could be a resource issue meaning they couldn’t afford to alow for the extra tolerance
I dunno, if Arkerra’s airship science is the equivalent of Earth’s rocket science, five extra crew members would be a pretty huge deal even for the best of engineers. ;)
Yeah, it could have plenty of tolerance, and still be unable to deal with its expected crew being doubled.
HEY FRIENDS. WE’RE HELPING.
Oh man, I love Goblaurence’s face in the last panel!
