I think it’s much more likely that it’s pronounced to sound like English words (like Syringe, Fringe, Embrace Change and Fair Exchange)–i.e., is Narrow Range–than the first syllable in a Spanish word followed by the English translation of that word.
Freddy Best seems like a much cooler guy than regular Best so far in the small glimpses we’ve gotten of him. I hope we get to see something that focuses on him for a bit at some point.
I was about to say the same; he seems much more caring of the feelings of others, even if we’ve only gotten a few sentences out of him since he’s changed clothes.
I like to think that his exchange with Byron up north really had a big effect on him. The whole “hero of destiny” racket he fell into made him into a huge A.Hole., but I think all the while deep down he knew he wanted to be something better than that. Yet, his fragile self-esteem and the fear to expose his true self to others held him back. And then, seeing so many relationships damaged by his behavior, he felt he didn’t deserve companionship.
Then Byron came along and said, “We’re going to be friends. It won’t always be ideal. We’ll hurt each other sometimes. But friendship includes the option to forgive and move forward, and we’re going to use that option whenever necessary”. Suddenly Best had a way out, so to speak, of his self-imposed prison of jerkitude into which he’d condemned himself.
So now, he’s reinvented himself and taken a new visual form to reflect that. He’s more outgoing and more caring because for the first time in a long time he feels safe enough to express himself in those kinds of ways. We’re seeing a little bit of the real Best that was hidden below layers of defense mechanisms and showmanship. And he’s surely feeling great unburdened and more at peace now as an additional result of these developments, which always makes it easier to emotionally give of oneself.
Indeed, I think to myself, that perhaps Wav was a form that was forcing those inner, more sensitive qualities to the surface, albeit in an awkward and inorganic way. Perhaps Best was so enraged by that form because of the way it exposed his inner self without his own free choice or consent. He felt exposed and violated, but covered that up with talk of his own awesomeness.
Just my current impressions so far.
Agreed. Maybe taking on the form of what he IRL probably saw as one of the greatest singers of all time has finally made him feel good about himself, so that his inferiority complex is no longer interfering with his empathy.
He tries to put on a good show of being happy, but his inner acres and pains are as plain as the trunk on an elephant’s face.
Look, theatrics can only cover up his true feelings for a time. He can sing a little song, recite happy poems, play a little ditty on his glockenspiel or his xylemfloem. None of it works forever.
The longer he tries to hide his true feelings from even himself, the worse it will hurt. A thousand blades cannot cut as deeply as can a man’s hidden sorrows. He’ll have to face his sorrows, figure out from what they stem, and ultimately uproot them somehow. Yes, sooner or later, he’ll have to make some deciduous choices about how to move forward in this life. The going will be hard, but he’ll need to stick to it. It may require a change of habits, and may leaf some scars, but letting go can be as refreshing as a day of exfoliating at the spa, and will surly leaf him feeling evergreen. (And knowing E’merl, he’ll probably end up a little sappy too, but it’s a small price to pay. Wood ent we all rather see him happy again?)
If he does the work, he’ll put himself back together alright. Like a well-organized photo, synthesis is not beyond his grasp. And maybe in time he’ll yet meet another special lady; the wedding canopy may still be in his future.
That honestly seems like a cool and unique magic trick. It’s not all flashy or complicated. Just something simple with a fun little narrative so the kids can join in.
E-Merl: “Oh. He’s alive again. That’s great, I guess. So, did the winter elves know about anything that could get Rachel back my guess is no.”
Syr’Nj: “Oh.”
E-Merl: “‘Oh’?”
Syr’Nj: “I… kiiiind of forgot to ask.”
Never really caught the mother’s name before. Syringe Fringe and… Fay wreck shinge?
Fair exchange.
Somewhere out there, a wood elf with parents “Bran’chj” and “L’eaf” wound up with the name “Br’unch”…
(It is nearly midnight and I am running on gaming adrenaline, so forgive me if that didn’t actually make sense.)
scool good comment
Also the deceased family patriarch Naror’Nj = Narrow Range, I think. Because apparently the apostrophe can represent a soft I or a hard A.
I wonder if they have any cousins named Phntaor’Nj, Rstih’Nj, Gyltw’Nj, Hyujcr’Nj, Dokdorstr’Nj, Daer’Nj, Olm’nj or Audor’Nj?
(Points for anyone who guesses them all right.)
I think Naror’Nj was actually a take on Orange/Naranja, but I could be wrong.

A cool mom names would be Bi’nj.
and up in the attic, High Lady Unhn’njd.
Fay erection?

As a man who has a tumblr page, I can safely say that is a man who also has a tumblr page.
Or, perhaps, a tummler page. (Yes, that is an actual word.)
The only thing he couldn’t pull a disappearing act on was sadness.
Leaves much to be desired
A pun!? Here!? You didn’t think we’d twig to what you were doing?
I think they did, and thanks to you, their post has been fruitful.
E’merl’s dealing with his grief pretty well. It’s nice to see him branching out his interests.
Yeah, long-term depression really sucks. It’s nice that he’s turning over a new leaf.
Although to truly move on, he needs to confront the root of his angst.
I concur. It’s the only way he’ll be able to grow.

“Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile still stays on…”
so goddamn appropriate…
Although the queen is dead we need another cast in her part, the show must go on!
Queen?
Exactly.
Alt text, why you do that do my feels.
There is no greater joy than the company of happy children.
Hear! Hear! :)
Not much better than an adult who can make a lot of children happy either.
:)
Preferably at a reasonable distance so that you can hear their happy voices but not what they are actually saying…
That honestly seems like a cool and unique magic trick. It’s not all flashy or complicated. Just something simple with a fun little narrative so the kids can join in.
Would it be racist, doing that trick for a bunch of wood elves?
I dunno…wood it?
E-Merl: “Oh. He’s alive again. That’s great, I guess. So, did the winter elves know about anything that could get Rachel back my guess is no.”
Syr’Nj: “Oh.”
E-Merl: “‘Oh’?”
Syr’Nj: “I… kiiiind of forgot to ask.”
That is the smile of a man who has used this magic trick for more than just school instruction.
“But Doctor…”, the man tearfully stated. “…I *am* Pagliacci.”

Do NOT send the resurrected dude to meet him, guys!!! You literally NEVER ASKED about his girlfriend’s resurrection and Byron is RIGHT THERE.
