“what, do you think this is a game or some sort of fictionnal world where you can just point and shoot the lock ?”
*tries it*
“Oh god, we are fictional characters…”
Actually I’ve seen door entry panels that do, internally though not handily accessible via a flap. A flat bladed screwdriver and some bending would provide access.
If you can remove the cover you can get to the port, if you can remove the cover though you can open the door without needing to hack it as you can just physically break the lock open. Though arguably in this scenario hacking the door == no alarms.
While this may seem foolish, I must unfortunately say that this is true. Of course, you have to have the proprietary USB plug, but its not exactly ‘easy’ to get to. Special screws (tri-head, safety-torx, fork tip, etc) block your progress unless you get really physical.
I install these and trust me when I say you DONT want to try to take one of these apart. You’ll get caught in the process. There is usually a camera pointed at them or if they’re part of a really good system, they’ll send an alert to someone that the device is offline and someone will investigate.
So it’s not exactly flawed, its flawed in this story (and most movies) that there is no backup.
The guard who would be watching the cameras is currently wiping egg off his windows. Remember, this is a video game company, not a military installation. The budget of the security department is aimed at keeping out hooligans, not stopping a well-planned assault.
Yeah I’m just nitpicking a little too much I guess. I’m the Security/Safety Director at my building so certain things in this arc are just hitting a little too close to home i guess xD
Funny. He didn’t seem to mind setting things up so a bunch of cops got killed. Now he’s gonna be snide because she shot a guy to save his life? And killed him to keep the loony from following them?
Shanna:”You know what RICOCHET IS, DON’T YOU?!”

“For the love of God, Xan! Have you ever watched Myth Busters!”
How do I say this tactfully? Ahem…
Shanna: your current coiffure seems to amplify the hyper-prominence of your olfactory organ.
Great, Shanna can pretend to be a door to door gun salesman.
“Hello Sir, may I interest you in our new line of petite calibers? It may be a common item but it’s sure to put down dire fans.”
Now with new and improved velocity adjustment!
Need more velocity! Use this bigger bullet! It’s sure to work!
*bullets not guaranteed to increase velocity.
“Yeeesss….and right now, I don’t know if I should use it on YOU or on that blasted door.”
USB access port on a card reader… That just seems like a flawed security idea all around.
And on the external side of the door? There’s suspension of disbelief, but c’mon…
T-Bay card reader… only $10 bucks with free shipping!
But what if you need to charge your phone when blocked at the door ?

Also forgot to mention that many have tamper sensors now. Good luck taking the access panel off with all those other things in place :)

This was well planned? They don’t even know what door they’re going into!
Yeah I’m just nitpicking a little too much I guess. I’m the Security/Safety Director at my building so certain things in this arc are just hitting a little too close to home i guess xD
Yes, because firing off a gun to open a lock won’t attract any attention whatsoever.
Well, there’s a reason it’s not plan A.
“I said gun, not Gilbert Gottfried impersonation. What’re you gonna do, roast the door open?”
