As Innicent_Bystander and dman have guessed below, “I suspect it’s a dream sequence for Carol.”
I’m thinking what they’re thinking as well. This isn’t so much a flashback as Carol falling asleep at her desk while Xan, Shanna and the others are breaking into Hurricane. The dream is memory turning into nightmare.
Yeah, the way she hears her creepy murderous boss repeat “I really couldn’t have done any of this without you” over and over, and the finger as a symbol of the murders they both committed, screams “guilt-trip nightmare sequence”
Yeah, that makes the most sense to me as well. The glowing glasses, the vibrant colors standing out, and the frequent use of the phrase ‘I could not have done this without you” etc all point to a dream.
Probably HR’s, would be my guess. A finger to work the magic that sends the first group to Arkerra, an arm to send his projection into Arkerra, and his whole body to send himself. Just a guess.
I’m pretty sure his little finger is just hidden by the “camera angle”. Besides, that finger looks like it’s still fresh, and I think he’d be a lot less sanguine if he had a raw, bloody wound on his hand.
Actually, this looks like the first glowy-glasses strip (if you don’t count silhouettes): http://guildedage.net/comic/chapter-25-page-13/
..which, incidentally, is the first on-screen outright villainy he shows.
Harky was missing 2… but uh. Harky’s not. Um. :I
But yeah; I think it’s a dream sequence by Carol, about to get distorted by her inner trauma of having to dispose of a dead guy for her boss.
Yeah, this is seriously weird–they’re all way too comfortable just hanging around naked in mixed company, and they should have had lockers or something for their stuff. I’m thinking this isn’t precisely how it went down and Carol’s subconscious is skewing the details a bit.
Oh, I wonder if Byron’s berserker madness come from the real world. He’s such a nice guy in the game because it split that part of his personality in half for some reason, and the serial killer bit piggy backed or fuelled HR’s Lovecraftian bullshit.
Byron has a very conspicuous red ring on the previous page.
They’ve all got conspicuously coloured objects, which match the colours of their tubes in previous scenes.
Byron has a red ring. Syr has a green pendant. Best has a yellow hat. Frigg has a pair of blue wrist bands. Gravy has a brown scarf (which occasionally blends in a bit to the sepia).
WHOSE FUCKING FINGER??

By that logic, every single Sepia World section has been a dream, since that’s all been part of the Sepia World sections from the start.
He might’ve used an orphan child.
Perfect.
This has just become a crime scene…We have to find out who left behind their finger prints.
Probably HR’s, would be my guess. A finger to work the magic that sends the first group to Arkerra, an arm to send his projection into Arkerra, and his whole body to send himself. Just a guess.
The real question: who gave them the finger?
Also, I just realized that HR’s glasses weren’t glowing in earlier strips. Art evolution or stylistic choice? YOU DECIDE.
That white shirt next to it looks like Payet Best’s, and I only see three fingers sticking up on his right hand in panel 3
Where you see a white shirt, I see white socks and underwear
I’m pretty sure his little finger is just hidden by the “camera angle”. Besides, that finger looks like it’s still fresh, and I think he’d be a lot less sanguine if he had a raw, bloody wound on his hand.
…I see what you did there.

Happens WAY earlier, in a less sinister setting: http://guildedage.net/comic/chapter-12-page-17/
The second appearance, however, a few chapters before his murdering of Ferris, is a lot more grim: http://guildedage.net/comic/chapter-22-page-23/
Two words: Gendo Glasses.
Nobody uses fingers in the digital age anyway.
Hee hee! I C wot U did dere- “digit”-al!
Faith in humanity….restored!
The owner of that digit probably needs to go to the ICU.
It can still be used by the computer’s CPU.
Surely people use fingers even more in a digital age?
In the digital world, it takes TWO digits. Look around for the other bit.
Yeah… Once the mind entirely digitalized, no physical body part have longer any use.
OK, do we know anyone who is missing a finger?
Harky was missing 2… but uh. Harky’s not. Um. :I
But yeah; I think it’s a dream sequence by Carol, about to get distorted by her inner trauma of having to dispose of a dead guy for her boss.
The left hand of the Frigg’s sepia world body have at least three fingers. This hand can be regular but it also it also can lack one or two fingers.
Except her, both hands of everyone one are regular, and so also is her right hand.
So, um, if they’re all entering the tanks separately, why’d they have to disrobe as a group without partitions?
Also, things haven’t even gone wrong yet, and already someone’s pointing the finger.
Yeah, this is seriously weird–they’re all way too comfortable just hanging around naked in mixed company, and they should have had lockers or something for their stuff. I’m thinking this isn’t precisely how it went down and Carol’s subconscious is skewing the details a bit.
I suspect it’s a dream sequence for Carol.
I knew there was something off, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
Okay, so we can confirm that it’s not *your* finger…
Oh, yeah. THAT’S not creepy AT ALL.
Maybe it only is the first part of something that, once enough revealed, will be actually creepy.
yeah…she could really give him a few…pointers…well…least one
So… a dream sequence?
That’s a cuteical lil’ digit
So Carol has to pick up everyone’s underwear?
HR, you’re an MCP (male chauvinist pig)!
Well they could’ve brought in another minion to do the laundry, but then HR would have to kill them to keep everything a secret.
Since I find it hard to believe none of them would’ve noticed a severed finger while undressing this is Carol’s memories bleeding together.
“Best”, on the other hand, is an MCP (multi character player).
Frabjous?
Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky reference
It’s just one of those kind of days.
Oh, I wonder if Byron’s berserker madness come from the real world. He’s such a nice guy in the game because it split that part of his personality in half for some reason, and the serial killer bit piggy backed or fuelled HR’s Lovecraftian bullshit.
Byron has a very conspicuous red ring on the previous page.
i think thats just the chosen article to illustrate his in game character.
And HR has a purple tie.
Say… that could come in handy
But how? You can’t put your finger on it…
Is there a Frodo in the house?
After a bunch of strangers got naked in a server room to play with elf, things suddenly got weird.
Dammit, where’s the ‘like’ button.
You won’t believe what happens next!
Nailbiting *is* a bad habit. Sometimes it gets out of control.
Looks like someone couldn’t handle the digital revolution.
Looks like someone is giving Carol the finger.
Either that or this is an elaborate foreshaddowing of Carol going to pieces.
Haptic access… one of these folks isn’t who they say they are.
SABOTAGE!
Biometric
Yes, someone is a *real* fanboy. Girl. YouknowwhatImean.
I guess someone left out their thumb drive.
Possibly foreshadowing a Cyberian spin-off in 2019?
We can only hope!
Whoops…someone has a dirty little secret.
Or would walk over corpses to be part of this.
Or would walk over parts to be…uh…never mind.
That moment when you realize someone has been stealing office supplies.
Looks like someone stuck their finger in the pickle slicer.
