* to be continued in the JUST ANNOUNCED SPIN-OFF COMIC, “TURN OF THE CENTURION” (occurred just after the g(u)idled age, get it?)! This comic willl be what “AfterM*A*S*H*” was to “M*A*S*H*”!
In counterpoint may I submit Trapper John, MD, a formal MASH spinoff which ran for 7 seasons and was by all accounts reasonably successfull in the Medical comedy/drama genre. So heres hoping….
Fear isn’t weakness, fear is strength. It’s the adrenaline burst that helps you lift a car with your bare hands. Passivity, resignation,, cynicism, avoidance, those are weakness.
Fear is a super power. Fear can make you faster and cleverer and stronger. And one day, you’re gonna come back to this barn, and on that day, you’re going to be very afraid indeed. But that’s okay because if you’re very wise and very strong, fear doesn’t have to make you cruel or cowardly. Fear can make you kind.
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
Just because entropy will eventually win doesn’t mean I can’t build nice things for my lifetime and a chunk of the next. Shit, just ’cause the planet’s powered by nuclear fusion and massive amounts of radiation doesn’t mean I want skin cancer.
This lich’s philosophy is like, “these Nazis… they can’t *ALL* be wrong, statistically.” which requires such a fundamental misunderstanding of everything that one must have intended to seek out justification for being bad to the bone, rather than any honest intellectual pursuit.
Looks like she’s a dorf, so Skullface there may be getting a nasty surprise in the form of a reminder that heroic types tend to make use of that ninny “teamwork” business.
Is it just me or is this the first time the corporeal undead have been shown? Especially a lich, I mean. That seems like a late point to introduce an entire breed of fantasy creatures. But it’s entirely possible I missed it ages ago.
Ghosts & spirits are common enough. Not too much of a stretch to go from incorporeal to corporeal. Plus the undead are fairly standard denizens of fantasy realms as it is.
I suspect it has more to do with the lingering influence of the cultist religion and whatever mojo H.R. was throwing around. We know Tectonicus died and that . . . various other gods can go dormant, so upheavals of this sort are not unprecedented.
That seems to be the lingering theme of this chapter really. Seems to have the right smell to it anyway.
That while some things are better, other problems just mutate into some other form. We know that the Countless Limbs is discredited after HR took over the Cult and started saying he is the One True God, but it’s not like the underlying ideology behind the what the Countless represented is actually gone. That lich’s speech has the same kind of nihilism as the Countless.
You know, I fell off reading GA for a few years for reasons I don’t remember. Been binging it the last few days from the start and… Jesus. I’m glad I got back before the end (and I’m surprised at how many commenters I remember seeing still around!). It’s been a hell of a ride catching up. Can’t wait to see the end with everyone else.

Should I be worried that this is the first time I even hear about “AfterM*A*S*H*”?
It was a graveyard S*M*A*S*H
Not really. It was forgettable. And folded less than halfway into the second season.
In counterpoint may I submit Trapper John, MD, a formal MASH spinoff which ran for 7 seasons and was by all accounts reasonably successfull in the Medical comedy/drama genre. So heres hoping….
Potter, Klinger, and Mulcahy carry on stateside in a VA hospital. Hilarity ensues, or not.

Fear…something something…dark side
“Can a man be brave if he’s afraid? That is the only time a man can be brave.”

Clara? Is that you?
Need a different gravatar for this but:

“Striving for the impossible” does not mean “toiling in vain” on roleplay servers. Go back to the power gaming server, achievement hunter.

No tag so I don’t know who these people are except Skeletor after hours and one of Frigg’s disciples.
Looks like she’s a dorf, so Skullface there may be getting a nasty surprise in the form of a reminder that heroic types tend to make use of that ninny “teamwork” business.
My guess, based on the crown, is that it’s Taro Iwatani tricked out with a Ronco Lich-O-Matic(TM) Soul Trap Gem to keep him on the material plane.
Looks like an adult skeleton and too philosophical. Maybe HR’s essence is trapped in it
I think the point is more that things both change and stay the same, so they’re maybe no-one we’ve heard of?
Yep. Back to good old fashioned dungeon crawls on Arkerra.
Hence, perhaps, the comment about making “youths into elders, overnight”? I dunno.
Honestly, the wind and fire makes me think it’s E-Merl.
Which could fit his post-Rachel persona a bit if he went full on dark side. Or his speech is just play-acting as part of training.
Hand Clutch of Spot-On Correctness for you!
Maybe the lich is Rachel?
These are obviously some random encounter\mini-boss and Rachel’s player’s new character power-grinding
Isn’t Rachel’s player dead as well?
Nope. Lia is doing just fine. Even hooked up with Daniel. (Chapter 49, Page 51).
I think you’re thinking of Kaye, who played Scipio until she died.
wasnt scip played by the dude at hurricane that gave a hand to HR’s cause? or was that e-merl’s player?
The dude from Hurricane never had an avatar (or at least one acknowledged in the comic). E-merl is Daniel’s avatar (Chapter 33, Page 14).
Kaye isn’t Bandit’s player? O.o RL is so confusing.
Omg somethings make much more sense when reading through again. XD

With H.R.’s hold on the world broken, it’s releasing aspects of Arkerra that he kept hidden for ‘future updates’.
Was that a thing that was said or are you speculating?

Although the lich is probably a bad guy, they’re putting out some bomb-ass speechifying.
It’s just a shame they’re going to end up Frigged to the sound of a paladin’s “STFU!”
Tremble before Arkerra’s latest nemesis: Limbo Lich!
Must be one of Hermes’ ancestors, they’ve got the moves!
Xykon’s HD remaster looking good.
I was about to ask if that’s whats-his-name from Order of the Stick
A skull with a furrowed brow. The true mark of a fantasy setting.
Really? I thought it was funny ears and noses. Or is that just sci-fi?
I get the feeling that somehow, Skeleton Dude is just Frigg roleplaying some bullshit nihilist bad guy as practice for her student(s).
If that guy’s real, though? Shut up, Hannibal!
Shouldn’t be anyone we know. I mean, it takes a heck of a long time to petrify bones.
Old bones of blackness
What is my true name, you ask
It rhymes with “just us”
