I still feel woogy about the fact they’ve got no magic user. Closest analogues, Gravedust and Syr’nj (is that spelled right?) aren’t really magic users per se. more buff/debuff classes.
Still, they’ve got a tactician/warrior, a meat shield, a ranged attacker with vague ghost powers (also wtf dwarf archer), a…chemist? healer? thing, and now a thief. I just can’t imagine them doing well without a person with some strictly magical attacks.
You don’t really need a straight-on spellcaster in your party IMHO. Neither in a story set in an RPG-like world, nor in an actual party for many games I know and/or play. In DND 4E terms you got 2 strikers (Byron & Bandit), a defender (Frigg), a controller (Gravedust), and a leader (Syr). Solid party-building to me, even without fireballs and lightning bolts. Gravedust & Syr probably have all the divination/healing utilities (and more) you might need. What do you think? Did I get it much wrong?
I’d peg Byron as more of a Tempest Fighter (another Defender) than a striker of some kind, and probably a Multiclass Warlord as well, but apart from that, yeah, seems right to me.
I also keep on thinking of Syr as an Artificer, which means that technically they DO have a magic user, as Artificer’s use the Arcane power source. >.>
Also, Bandit is an Artful Dodger Rogue, Frigg is a 1-handed weapon and shield Fighter, and although Gravedust claims he’s a Shaman, he actually seems to be closer to a Bloodbond Seeker in gameplay terms (binding spirits to arrows). Incidentally, Seekers are Wisdom-primary classes, which is a stat that Dwarves get a bonus to. So yeah, not as weird as you’d think.
Byron could be a good tempest, you’re right, but the amount of damage those axes might do reminds me more of a simple two-blade ranger… totally agree w/the multiclass warlord idea.
Syr sure functions as an artificer in many ways… but I think Doop Doop wasn’t just talkin’ about arcane power source, but actual fireball-tossing wizards.
I totally agree w/you on all other accounts (yep, Gravedust’s a shaman, but he acts a lot like a seeker… with more ghosts. I wonder if there’ll be a class like that in Heroes of Shadow but I guess not, after all).
I love how Syr’s eyes are in that last panel, sort of gives me the impression that her tone of voice is a little grudging, but only a little.
Also I like Frigg’s expression. She’s beat up, fed up, and most likely exhausted, and at this point she looks like she’s just a little confused too. Then again, who wouldn’t be confused by Bandit’s antics!
She’s certainly trying to fill Best’s shoes in the obnoxious department, but she does it in such a cute way! Its probably because she doesn’t seem to disregard others’ opinions, safety, and emotional states… nope, doesn’t appear to have many shortcomings.
Aaaaw, she sure stole their heart.
Literally.
No. Because then they would die.
Suggested caption for 5th panel:
Who’s got two thumbs and kicks ass while looking cute as a button? This gnome!
Agreed :)
Dammit Bandit, don’t go making the child parallels even more easy to draw!
That smile in the middle panel gives me thoughts I didn’t know I had or wanted about Bandit. The thumbs only made it worse.
What kind of thoughts we talkin about here?
Gnome-aphile thoughts.
Like pedophile thoughts, but older and the same height.
Like pedophile thoughts, but totally legal!
i didn’t realize ANY kind of thoughts were illegal!
We’d give her a cookie but we know she already took them all.
the more i look at byron in the last panel, the more he looks like a cat…..
What kind of cats do you see when you get stoned, exactly? ^___^
Bandit looks beyond adorable in the fifth panel. And hey, the first official use of one of them calling Byron Boss.
True on both accounts!
Frigg suddenly all Beatonesque an’ shit. She so fucked up, she be straight trippin’ inna diff’ren’ webcomic.
I love the idea of being So Fed Up With All This Bullshit Then that it affects your character design.
Doesn’t look like something by Kate Beaton to me but your phrasing was sooo totally worth it! ^___^

Oh no, you sure don’t ^___^

“Boss”, eh?

Well other than Syr or another gnome.
Although, one minor criticism is that it took me about five seconds to actually find her pupils.
shut up.
more awesome expression work…though i’m not sure i like the low-contrast night colours…kinda hides those lovely flowing lines.
Love Syr’s “gangsta” persona. “Yeah boss, yeah!” :P
It seems they are considering Bandit for a loftier position.
I hope she can fill that tall order.
It’s a good thing cause they were a member short before.
She’s certainly trying to fill Best’s shoes in the obnoxious department, but she does it in such a cute way! Its probably because she doesn’t seem to disregard others’ opinions, safety, and emotional states… nope, doesn’t appear to have many shortcomings.
Yeah I was kind of hoping Bandit would get more lime-light, girl knows how to step up and be recognized.
Panel 5, thumbs to the sky + over the top happy face. I love it.
Bandit’s got my vote. Saucy thing, eh?
Bandit is just adorable, in a thievin’ chaotic-neutral sort of way. :3
Frigg’s boobs disappeared in the last panel.
MIddle panel reminds me of the Cheshire Cat smile. :D
You passed my test Bandit. I give you an A+ in how much I love you<3
