PENK WINNETH THE RAP BATTLE. AND THE ACTUAL BATTLE (HE MADE HARKY OPEN-MINDED).
THEREFORE HE IS … THE ULTIMATE TROLL!
AND WINS AN ANONYMOUS UNBANNABLE TWITTER FEED!
I don’t know, Penk seemed to just be beating the point over Harky’s head. Then again, that made him a touch literally open minded.
I’m not even sure some of Harky’s lines have CLOSE to the right meter, in the middle there.
On the other hand, Penk needed a drum to keep track. But, like, at least he knows his weakness and found a way to make it work.
I guess I’ll go with Penk on this one.
Penk has his own beat box so I got to give it to him.
And seriously Rachel?!
Harky wins! Brutality!
I’ve gotta give this one to Harky. I could actually rap his lines or whatever, Penk’s kinda stumbled a bit near the end there.
I’m not really impressed with the either one. That’s probably a bigger dig at Penk, who’s supposed to have music in his blood.
Harky’s “Takers of our acres, I will take their lying tongues” Is probably the best line, and the “Child’s soul” is on point thematically. Those pull Him slightly ahead.
Agreed. That whole bar was great:
The humans see our kind
as less than dogs, as less than dung!
They are takers of our acres!
I will take their lying tongues!
Harky wins (even though I was rooting for Penk).
Yeah, it’s a rap battle, not a popularity contest.
That was impressed on me last round.
It’s not who has the better point, but who phrases it better.
This seems less like a battle, and more like a combative duet. Though I would have to pick Penk.
Well, like the saying goes, “great rhymes tick alike.”
There are (rap)battles among friends – or mentors and disciples.
And it does reflect the actual battle over the role of warchief very well. Like they didnt hate each other and personally they would not like to kill the other, but they agreed that this important matter had to be settled and as they could not find any common ground one had to go, so the other could lead the still united rebellion..
Gonna give this one to Penk, when you read the last bout with the proper cadence it just rolls and punchs. Some parts almost feel like Harky was holding back, but the beginning bits were solid. You guys are def feeling the flow now I’d say.
Penk, for a stronger future.
Harky’s finish was way stronger than Penk’s constant jabs at what Trolls are, so I will say Harky won. Wished Penk would have concentrated more on Harky’s weaknesses and faults than just his own ideals about what the Troll race should or could be.
While I don’t think either of them hit it out of the park, I think Penk actually won, for much the same reason. Harky was attacking Penk, while Penk focused more on driving home his point.
Penk! Penk! Penk! Woooo! go Penk! :D
I love me some Harky, but Penk won this one.
Penk all the way! ^_^
Harky for the win.
His rhymes were easier to follow. Penk seemed like he was struggling. Odd since Penk is supposed to be the musical one.
On another note, I would of selected different colors for the font. The orange and red made it hard to follow who was saying what. Plus the color seems to have flipped by the time we get to the big stanzas. Harky starts off as red verse (I think), but Penk has the red verse by the end.
The darker orange (lines 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, 16) is always Penk. They’re both substantially more gracious about the battle than Frigg or Best; Penk says “This disciple now seems to be a hellion!” about himself in the introduction, Harky says “And this warchief seems mired in old ideas of what should be!” and they chorus “We are trolls” together on those lines.
That makes sense. In the actual arena fight, they were very amiable toward each other up until the moment they started to bash each other’s brains in (one more so literally than the other).
Why would anyone describe themself as mired, when the goal is to elevate their image?
Go back and re-read their actual arena duel. They both wanted to make the other look good – such that whomever won, there would be no doubt in the minds of the trolls that the survivor was worth following.
Maybe once they are over the rap battles could be tied in (via link in description or something) at the time points they fit most
WE ARE TROLLS!
Hmm, tough call, but maybe Harky won.
Agreed that these are the weakest two of the whole week, but still very enjoyable. Gotta go Penk on this one.
Penk FTW
Gotta go with my drummer and his sick beat, Penk all the way babay!
Penk has his own beat box, but this advantage is nullified if we can’t hear it.
Harky gets my vote on this one. Tighter message, more forcefully delivered.
Harky for me.
Ooooo, love the rhythm in these!
I think trolls win, whoever the war leader is. They have had the only two entirely ethical leaders in Arkerra. Not that I agree with their ethics, mind you, but they both say what they mean, mean what they say, and act accordingly.
As for the actual rap, I have to give it to Harky, for the “They are takers of our acres” section. Also, nice that he knows a drumhead is strung.
Well, HAMMERHEAD certainly fits your criteria.
Penk
This one was a little odd at first trying to follow the lines, because I thought it was the colors saying who was who, but some of the colors seemed backwards from what I expected them to say, so then I thought maybe it was the lines next to each character’s picture, but that didn’t really work either. Clearly by the end, it was light orange Harky and dark orange Penk.
Given the confusion I had at the beginning, the last stanza I felt like Penk’s lines really rolled off the tongue, with only a stumble or two near the end. Harky’s I had a harder time getting into a rhythm. (though that might say more about my familiarity with rap than about their lines…)
I think Harky already knew how that battle would turn out a month before Penk knew it was coming. It was his final lesson to Penk, and his final gift.
Penk learned the lesson and did not squander the gift.
Here, as then, both are eloquent; and their mortal conflict is saturated with mutual respect and kinship.
Both win.
Holy shit. Tectonicus’ heralds spitting fire in here.
They both have some great lyrics and rhythm, but I can *feel* the beat of Penk’s drum in those italics, and it is unrelenting. I have to give this to Penk, and mourn for Harky even as Penk states his love and his mercilessness in the same breath.
Exactly! It’s the unrelenting beat of Penks final stanza that settles this – and it fits him as a character so well.
Go Penk <3
