Mental Health Day – Part 5
And that’s the conclusion of Short Story 1 of 2: Mental Health Day!
We will more than likely do the next one in a similar fashion: as an interlude between Chapters 31 & 32.
Chapter 31 begins Monday, and, well… I tried reading the draft T sent my way, but it’s all Greek to me. So we’ll see how that goes!
All together now: Aaaaaaaawwwww…
awwwwwwwwwwwwww
AAAAW YIS
Nothing like a little fanfiction-not-fanfiction to cleanse the palette.
Wind has filled the sails of S.S. FriggxSyr’Nj!!! Oh my gaaaaaawd
White squall…
And on that note who knew that:
1) Wood elves had “bark skin”….
2) and that they can breathe through said skin?
I guess Byron likes it rough…
Syr has commented on her “root toes” and non-wood-elves’ lack thereof before, so it’s not like it’s much of a surprise. They probably grow fruit when they get pregnant too.
Nah, just her melons swell up…
In practical terms this seems to make wood elves better at many constitution-based checks, though their constitution is still low. These are some fun characters!
With the writing and structure being not as good, I thought these were guest fill-ins, until I saw the byline in the lower right corner.
I thought it was great. :(
I think it was good, too, though perhaps some readers are noting the difference between the creators working in their preferred medium and working in a medium with its own rules and standards. Something like the difference between a first and a second language?
I think I understand the gist of what you’re saying, though I’d nitpick about “preferred.” Sure, I do more comics, but I really relished the chance to work in text format (for the second time this year and probably not the last). This was a different exercise than our usual chapters in a number of ways, though. It was mostly me (though Phil did give it its single best idea). And perhaps what feels most “fanficky” about it is that it isn’t really made to have a big impact on the main 60-chapter epic. Guilded Age certainly has its lighthearted moments, but even those usually tie in to the ongoing storyline in some way. Giving the characters “the day off from all that” and seeing what they did in literal down-time was a lot of fun. But if you’re looking for consequence, Chapter 31 starts next week, and you are not gonna believe WHERE it starts, lemme tellya.
Great story! I do have one suggestion, though. Next time, it might be better to use a font that’s not all-caps. For some of us with aging eyes, reading that much text in all capital letters is a bit of a strain, and it makes it difficult to concentrate on the story.
It’s very bog-standard ‘decent quality’ fanfiction style, and I’m certain that’s deliberate. Even though I adore fanfiction, I can’t say I enjoyed this interlude very much for precisely that reason.
The presentation may not have been that sharp, but it was a cute little story anyway.
It’s nice to have something not-so-serious occasionally, I think.
I suppose so… unless it’s new cannon being snuck in.
It’s hard to sneak a cannon into anywhere, but if you manage it the sneak attacks you can pull off make the effort all worth it.
Yyyyyup.
Still say that what The Frigg feels for The Stick is real (it always seemed to me there was something between those two, at least from The Frigg, and this just released her inhibitions enough for her to admit it, to herself as well as The Stick), whether it will amount to anything in the long run… time will but tell
Did Syr call Frigg “trollish”? That’s racist!
Good stuff.
No, Syr’Nj, I definitely think you should test that potion further. For SCIENCE!
Question for the authors: Does Frigg remember any of this?
I tend to resent easy-amnesia solutions, so I’m gonna go ahead and say no. There’s no real reason for either of them to pursue this after the potion wears off and Frigg’s baseline is restored, though.
By ‘no’ I think you mean ‘yes’?
Er, yes. “No to the easy amnesia-based solution.” “Yes, she remembers.”
I like the notion that Frigg is bisexual. It’s like the quote from Oberyn Martell in GoT.
“Then everyone is missing half the world’s pleasure. The Gods made that [women], and it delights me. The Gods made this [men]… and it delights me. When it comes to war I fight for Dorne, when it comes to love… I don’t choose sides.”
She’s less Bi-Sexual, and more Anything she can get a hold of sexual.
I think the term is Pansexual.
More like Omnisexual.
I thought it was a little draft T in here.
I can’t believe you made Frigg/Syrinj feel workable. That was not a notion I would have ever had on my own.
Plus, nobody they know killed in south central Gastonia. Today was a good day.
I enjoyed the story. Had a familiar feel of a tv show’s side story where a bunch of small sub plots all tie back together and it was a fun little story in its own right. Good job.
