Thief 12
“What did you DO to him?” I realize Yalaria comes off a little dim, but pistols of any kind are a very rare commodity on Arkerra, so it wouldn’t be too OOC for even a creature of above-average intelligence to be taken aback by one in action.
One reason they’re not seen a lot is that (like their parallels on historical Earth) they are very inefficient by modern standards. As you may recall, this pistol is a one-shooter, and reloading would take a lot more time than Isidro has. So he bluffs.
Last panel: Isidro may be starting to realize he’s a little too good of a guy for his line of work.
You only live, like, twice, maximum.
(Unless you’re Byron.)
Aren’t firearms being used heavily in the war effort? Gnomish soldiers in particular are shown relying on them. And by the end of the war, they’ve advanced the tech enough to even have repeater rifles. So it seems like guns are prolific.
In any case, I can understand Yalaria being in shock. She just saw a loved one get blasted out of the sky. Even battle hardened soldiers probably aren’t going to react well.
I think they come more into play as the
expansionswar drags on, so at this relatively early phase of their implementation, the gnomes might be keeping such things to themselves. For a thieves’ guild to be using advanced milspec equipment at all raises certain questions about their objectives.Bird brain forgets that the shooter stole the egg…. They say stupid/unsmart people are the most lucky, but that’s only because they get most chances for luck to shine in the obvious face of danger and failure. From an outside perspective, this scene going down is just mind boggling as heck. Cthulhu himself would be at least a puzzled.
Pistols like that take about ten seconds to reload if you’re good at it. So… One combat round? :P
