Annotated 13-18
Frigg’s stance of negotiation with her god isn’t all that different from how some of the older religions practiced prayer, come to think of it.
The “decreased focus” is Syr’Nj’s biggest surprise, and it’s a bit of a clue. Even at his least intelligent, the Hulk can generally direct his fists at whatever has threatened him or otherwise frustrated him, and he has enough sense of object permanence to recognize his enemies’ hands as part of their beings. The Berserker is wilder and more primal than that. Anything that moves deserves its killing impulse.
(I came close to adding a new “Berserker” tag for this scene in place of “Byron,” since I think this is the first time the group has really, truly recognized this being as something other than Byron. But that’d probably cause more confusion than it’d fix.)
RAGEBERRY KOOL-AID – side effects include GLOWING SWEAT. Use your sweaty body to fuel SWEET RAVE PARTIES! You’ll fight as good as BYRON people will watch you fighting and think you’re BYRON you’ll fight as well as BYRON against actual BYRON and it’ll be a tie and you’ll get deported back to BATTLESHIRE.
You’ll be TOO ENERGETIC FOR NORMAL COMBAT.
“all that different from some how of the older religions”
I think the words “some” and “how” are in the wrong order there.
Sure, if you want to be all sequential about it… yeah, dunno what happened there. Fixed.
Was Conan’s prayer to Crom a source of inspiration here?
This was one of Phil’s, but probably not: neither of us are huge fans of the series.
I demanded some Rageberry Koolaid from my parents, they said no. I threw a tantrum, they kicked me out. They said “get a goddamn job you’re 30 MOVE OUT ALREADY”.
Still no Koolaid, I don’t understand. Please help me alt-text god.
There’s a Jonestown joke here somewhere…
“I can always do science to it.”
That’s cool. I just now noticed the vial of blood is reflected in Syr’Nj’s eye in the fifth panel.
“Can you do religion to it?”
“Please. I can always do religion to it.”
