Annotated 15-13
Bit of a jolt in tone here as we move into Phil’s section. He wrote this part first, before I’d gotten anywhere with my pages.
However, the aid-with-strings-attached seen here is a useful contrast with the charity of the last scene, and we kinda needed to put the scene here because the next scene will show E-Merl and Rachel returning home, after a little time jump.
Taro’s fauxpology is probably pretty familiar to anyone who’s dealt with a kid who’s old enough to have been taught the motions to go through but not old enough to get the point of empathy. But of course, Taro’s really too old to be hiding behind that excuse. There are those people who never learn empathy.
I do love Persson’s scowl. He was probably my favourite amongst the heads of houses and he still steals the show even when rendered in 30×100 pixels.
Personally, I’m impressed with Bedard’s show of emotion. So piercing is that scowl, that he actually sprouted eyebrows to complete it!
Yeah, I have a feeling that panel would’ve been done differently a couple of years later. Bedard is like the World Champion of Pokerface and Pardo is Mr Amicable. Feels weird that they would turn grouchy just because Reynolds won’t follow the script.
Guys you don’t have to lay so thick your topical political allegory. I know the times we live in call for some satire but this is just too close how things actually are… oh wait; this page was actually first published 7 years ago…
