Annotated 21-11
“And after the runoff, we have… another tie vote, because Frigg changed her vote at the last second just to spite Rachel. TURNS OUT DEMOCRACY IS USELESS, OH WELL, BYRON’S YOUR LEADER, HAVE A NICE MISSION”
Look at that body language in panel 2. Bandit is so, so happy just to be in contention, and Byron’s happy for her. For him, going back to leadership would be taking on a duty, but it means more to her, and he can see that. This page and the next are probably the high-water mark in their relationship.
I changed the first couple of balloons at the last minute, the better to match the hilarious nearly illegible mess John had pencilled on the previous page.
I never really did understand Gravy’s response here. Unless, as the alt tag intimates, he really just has been asleep the whole time.
I think he was expecting Frigg to vote for herself.
First, Frigg is yelling in his ear.
Second, Frigg is not only loudly announcing who she voted for in a secret ballot, but in a way that directly insults Byron to his face.
Third, she didn’t vote the way Gravedust voted.
I do wonder if Rachel guessed correctly which way Frigg would go, or, with no idea there, went the same way Scipio and E-Merl did, with “I’ll vote for the one who was in charge when I joined.”
She’s a lot more openly angry with Byron than anyone else. We know Bandit retains issues over the Berzerkening, but she never really lets them surface until Chrissie lets go of the reins, and Gravy and Syr seem to have ‘on his meds’ as their default image of Byron, whereas Frigg seems to have ‘foaming at the mouth’.
He figured out Frigg voted for him, and he didn’t even think she liked him, let alone would choose him to lead her in battle.
That’d be a hell of a delayed reaction, since the fact that Bandit had to make another vote at all revealed that.
Er…Frigg. How the hell did my fingers make that mistake?
I think he was surprised that she voted for Bandit, as well as her anger, since she seems to be implying that she doesn’t really want to vote for her, but that since she doesn’t want to risk leadership being given to someone who may lose it if he doesn’t/isn’t able to take his meds, she’s kinda stuck with Bandit or just throwing her vote away.
Cute Bandit faces are Good
“I changed the first couple of balloons at the last minute…”
Inquiring minds want to know: what were they originally going to say?
“Gradwi? Godsel?… Well, that’s a G for sure, so ‘Gravedust.'”
Rachel has a very elastic neck. :D
She’s actually a floating head coupled with a headless automaton. Can’t unsee.
