Annotated 21-20
The best lines in here (the last two) are Phil’s, and he tweaked several others, but I’m still a proud papa about this scene. I really wanted to play with Frigg and Scipio’s weird dynamic and the ways that it would shift now that Fr’Nj was a factor. They didn’t disappoint.
I also appreciate that, after Scipio’s obvious pain in the first tier and startling outburst (by his standards) in tier 2, John gave him a sardonic instead of strained expression in the final panel, pretty close to his default if a bit more open-eyed. If he’s going to die, he shall die as he lived.
Other images I considered to accompany this page: power tool with a scorpion label, jar of Skippy Peanut Butter.
Can others see Frigg’s crusader glowy shit? I thought not, but Scipio asks her to “power up” and seems to be looking at her glowing hand in the 6th panel.
For a while, we worked it so that no one (but Rachel) had an unobstructed view of Frigg when her powers activated, but that was just misdirection and coincidence, not a sign that her powers were actually invisible. By the end of the Battle of B’ial Vezk, most of her allies have seen them in action.
I love how bad Frigg’s comebacks become any time there’s actual emotion or embarrassment involved.
To be fair, the implication is that she is, in fact, blaming him. It’s still a bad comeback but this is probably the most appropriate use of the “You’re a X” form I’ve seen.
I can imagine Frigg using that line later when someone underperforms.
You can? I can’t imagine her sounding that formal even when not experiencing immediate sexual frustration. At most, she might try it and mangle some of the words (like when she asked the two gnomish scientists if they had some complaint retarding the observatorium).
Middle panel bottom row has total “Not sure if I want to fight you or f&@$ you.” energy coming off both of them. I kinda like that it never happens, but that whole immovable object vs unstoppable force thing these two have generates a lot of heat.
