Annotated 8-13
This would be the first John page that Phil scripted, and the differences between my and Phil’s writing styles are pretty pronounced here. I was all about trying to get as much info as possible into the pages, which was good for the quick survey of World’s Rebellion and post-mystic Savasi cultures, but it sometimes meant that moments like the reveal of the death pit didn’t get as much room to breathe as Phil would’ve given them. Here, Phil focuses almost everything in the page on Harky’s entrance, with the group’s reactions kept at the bottom margin like scattered bits of debris.
Nice bit of art here — I’d call it foreshadowing, but I’m not sure that Harky’s end was known this far in advance. It’s still great to compare, though; for one thing, John’s art has really grown over time. This is good, but the later page is Great.
So interesting to read T’s take on the scripting differences. Without reading today’s comments I would have said yesterday and today’s pages were very similar. A main/shocking scene that takes up almost half the page. Surrounded by the other 4 peacemakers. Not sure if my view is just overly simplistic or if T and Phil are like brothers that see themselves as totally different when everyone else sees big similarities. Either way the story was always great and cohesive no matter who was working on the page.
It’s easy to forget how much of a BAMF Harky was. What a great character.
I agree. They really did a great job with him.
Last panel is BAD. ASS. And also prime Syr’Gg shipping material.
Happy [checks calendar] St Nicholas Studites’ day, Guildies!
