I count myself lucky that the Christmas special in question has almost completely vanished from my memory.

But…it had a drunken Bea Arthur in it! How can anyone think that was bad?

Funny, I remember that day differently. Everything turning into snow and some blond English dude saying, “HERE. NOW. YOUR SENTENCE IS UP.”

It’s a reference to the end of a certain series by Grant Morrison.

I think Lia is simultaneously showing off her storytelling chops and trying to weasel out of revealing personal truths. Also she has a dry sense of humor and is still coming off of a large annoyance.

Funny thing: The Star Wars Holiday Special was not meant as a Christmas special. It was a Thanksgiving special.

It’s just that, with ‘Holiday Special’, everyone started thinking of it as a Christmas movie. So it suffered the same fate as Jingle Bells, something meant for Thanksgiving, absorbed into the boughs of holly.

Jingle Bells wasn’t a Christmas movie? Do you mean it didn’t have a Christmas release, or did the initial draft have differences in subject matter?

The song Jingle Bells (Originally ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’) was originally written as a Thanksgiving song, but it’s now a Christmas tune, is what I meant.

It’s funny; I would never imagine Jingle Bells as a Thanksgiving thing because Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, and there’s never any snow on the ground, making sleighs of any kind a terrible idea. I tend to forget that Americans do it November.

Canada has snow for seven months out of twelve, but not in October? What.

Canada has snow for 12 months out of 12, I’m pretty sure.

Hey now, Canada isn’t like Hawaii. It’s bigger.

Heck, there are a few places that actually have seasons!.

Well sure, but because it’s such a big place, it includes places like… Baffin Island, which, crossing the arctic circle, regardless of seasons is cold enough for snow all year ’round.

Snow in November is at best unusual for most of the United States. Even the places that get it don’t always get enough of it to justify sleighs.

Sleigh Ride was originally written in the middle of an August heat wave.
It’s not about seeing your friends for the holidays, it’s about getting out of the gotdam heat.

Global warming enraged the glaciers and caused them to release their children to punish us for our sins against nature.

Weeell, we can’t be completely sure Sepia world is supposed to be our world, right? Maybe it’s an alternative universe where the Mayapocalypse actually happened.

If catastrophe/apocalyptic movies and their sequels have taught me anything, then that mankind is always eager to return to “normal” after just about anything.
