If Syr’nj can’t get him to berserk through pure physical pain, someone is going to have to make Byron angry. And I don’t think it would be healthy for their relationship if that someone is Syr’nj. So I’m expecting that she’ll have to delegate that job to someone else. Someone like Frigg.

I’m not sure. Given it might take him a few minutes to tear loose, you can run away while that’s happening, and if he rips free, the building colapses on him.

I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I just got through season two. There’s an episode called “The Avatar State” where some people, in the name of goodness and science, activate Aang’s avatar state and he nearly kills everything before another character gets him to chill. I’ve got visions of that happening.

    • Krogaladin

In avatar, they wanted to exploit the Avatar State to fight the fire nation, here there just trying to cure it. potentially, I see a Hulk time scenario, where they try to get him to induce the berserker state without loosing control.

Specifically it was a contingent of the Earth Kingdom army and they did have good intentions but we all know what that gets you. Frankly they were just messing with forces the barely understood (a single Guru later does better than they do in a faction of the time), shown by several hilarious and ineffectual attempts to induce the Avatar State before Aang ends up telling them how he usually gets into the Avatar state, at which point they start throwing rocks at him. Giant. 10 ton. Rocks.

As for going berserk without lossing control, could be, but we saw that once in the episode where Best snapped him out of it. Still could be interesting to see and we may get more of Byron’s backstory. Im particularly curious as to whether others thought he was a monster or if he just came to the conclusion himself. I actually read a book where a young child went berserk and killed another child he was playing with…and his parents saw the rage as a gift from the gods.

This seems like it could be some combination of voyeuristic, nasty and creepy. The first time it took a spear through the chest. The second time it was as much of a mental thing as the actual fight. So…exactly how much do they plan on essentially torturing him? Might that not have some other negative side effects? Now might be a good time for Byron to explain to Syr why he is what he is (if indeed he knows)…a bit of a clue might help avoid greater unpleasantries.

Now, I’m not the squeamish type but for some reason I’m thinking “yeesh”–maybe because it’s friends who intend to methodically (hey, it’s Syr’nj) harm one of their own. (I mean seriously, sweet as she is I can imagine her laying out “tools” in order of potential damage and charting this.) I guess the writing’s quite effective if I care enough to feel a little weirded out, like I’m about to wander into the opening of a fanfic I didn’t ask to read…

Syr’s approach, however, doesn’t surprise me. Maaaaany years ago I ran a scribe in Warhammer FRP whose adventure hook was that he’d been bitten by a werewolf and needed a cure. In WFRP lycanthropy is triggered by stress. After we got the medicine, the party’s trollslayer decided to test it by terrorizing him (though not in this way)…fortunately the cure had worked.

Oh I see, because Frigg has difficulty getting over the fear that Byron could lose it and kill her again, she’s not trustworthy? Dammit Byron, give the girl some respect and trust that while she is scared shitless of you, she WILL hold to her word and NOT try to kill you unless it’s self defense?

I think he wanted to say Bandit too, but didn’t want to mention the whole “She’s ready to try and banish me from this country any second” bit so Syr, ’cause I’m POSITIVE hell would break loose. Heck, Frigg’s not as worse as Bandit at this point, at least Frigg has some code of honor towards her fellow party members. Thy would have been better off with… I can’t believe I’m saying this… Payet over Bandit. At least he had a sense of duty to the others under all that guff. ._. Rest in pieces good sir.

…I thought Frigg was the messiah. Why’s Byron dying for our sins?
