Methinks panel 6 Frigg might be a wee bit turned on by all the attention she’s getting from our resident shield-bearing badass.

I am a tad disappointed in Scipio though. This show of awesome would be relegated to the status of legend had he managed to keep his usual cigar even during a rock slide.

At panels 3 to 6, something in Scipios’ face is making him look more… hmm… respectful? Less like a caricature? I dont know, he looks more heroic. Anyone with a good eye for drawing got any idea why would that be?

For me the first part is the shift to a new line. It breaks things up a little bit.

His response also breaks things, she teases and is crass, he is very direct and serious. It’s clear that this is something that bothers him a great deal, and even if Frigg is still being her teasing self, he is willing to set aside his usual appearance and show what he cares about.

Then he’s back in old form when he talks about carpenters. It’s more in the writing and timing for me, we catch a glimpse of what really matters to him.

it’s because his eyes are open and eyebrows are being used. Those two features are what really display emotion, and he’s conveying it openly.

I just realized: this is the first time I’ve ever seen such a fierce competition between tanks. Usually, it’s the DPS players who’re so focused on topping the charts, followed by the healers.

But then, I never really got to raid, so I wonder if such rivalries between meat shields actually do take place.

Rarely, across the line meat-shields of every stripe enjoy having other meat-shields to share the shielding with. Part of that is most competitive play does’t track how well one acts as a damage sponge. Shame that some of the most important stats never get tracked.

A blessing if you ask me. With the way DPS classes are judged over frankly arbitrary number differences, I say they can keep it. I’ll keep my invisible numbers and evaluation based on quality, thank you.

The healers can tell how good the tanks are, even if the game can’t.

When there are multiple tanks in the same fight, they’re always doing totally different things, so you have to compare this week’s battle with one tank to last week’s battle with another tank. And unless the rest of the group performs identically, which tank did a better job can be almost impossible to automatically detect. But I can tell. I know that I had to heal the mage this week because he stood in the fire, but I had to heal him last week because the tank screwed up and accidentally positioned the boss so it was facing the group for a few seconds.

A tanking meter would need a list of which enemy skills were “supposed” to hit people other than the tank and which weren’t. That’s a huge amount of work for games with thousands of enemies, and is also impossible to do for new content until players are familiar with it, so the only people who can really do it are the game developers. If you’re in a guild and want to compare breastplate size, it’s easier to just ask the healers.

The best indicator that you have a good tank is that you don’t have any wipes. Coming from another healer. Holy Priests represent!!

Agreed. The healers know how well tanks are doing because it makes their jobs easier and will notice. If you’re on voice chat and your healer(s) almost never stop swearing then you could probably use a better tank.

Yes, we most definitely do know what tanks are good. I’ve done raiding in a lot of games as a healer (usually tank healer, sometimes raid), and I’ve had the good and the bad in tanks. Good means I’m chilling, working through my appropriate spells and occasionally topping up the raid. Bad means I’m on the edge of my seat trying not to hyperventilate while I blitz through my mana and potions trying to keep everyone alive. Then, y’know. Die. Because massive heals + bad tank = hello ground.

Not the case; cf. Friggsplosion inside stolen gnomish mecha a few chapters ago. The shield had smite-expansion lines around it too. Not that this isn’t weird though; until now I didn’t think the whole ka-smitery even needed a weapon to channel through.

You don’t stop when your primary ‘weapon’… um… runs out of manna. You switch to an alternate, while your primary weapon recharges. Barehanded combat works well, and of course, the tongue is sharper than a two-edged sword.

Once you get good enough at weapon swaps, you’ll be able to use your primary weapon’s special attack multiple times during each encounter.
