I do this every time I post first. What makes it worth doing is that I keep the vernacular fresh, I do not often use words more than once.

We just get a charge out of revolting puns. You have negative impulses, regarding the humorous potential of puns. Ion the other hand, find reading puns positively electrifying! Excessive punning can give an ugly jolt, but the shocked reactions can be electro-cute-ing.

Sorry if some of those puns didn’t flow very smoothly. I’ll attempt to rectify the lines, when I’m not so drained.

Trength = Tree + length. One of the four attributes from the arboreal chant: Trength, Trudth, Brange, and Roepth. Grant me tree length, that I might see; trunk width that I might weather the storm. Grant me branch range that I might reach and root depth that I might stand firm. It’s… it’s a druid thing.

I don’t get how the trees rooting themselves deeper is going to kill the trees, and (presumably) save our heroes.

What comes to mind is that the roots will gently grasp all of our heroes, and then the tree will shoot out of the earth like a rocket.

    …Guess we’ll see.

My guess is that the rapid growth will kill the tree. It just can’t handle it. I think the roots are going to break up the dirt and heave it out maybe? Gentle and roots just don’t go together in my mind.

Tress have a balance between the above and the below. Leaves gather energy from the sun, roots from the minerals and water. If either side is out of balance in too great a way, the tree will die.

But more to the point, look at the leaf changes in panel 4. Fr’nj is making the trees burn through their energy stores to create deeper roots at an accelerated rate.

The elves actually worship 50 different aspects of Greyya, known as “shades”. Each has its own spelling.

        Plaintextman
        March 15, 2013, 5:50 pm | # | Reply

This makes it difficult for enemies of the elves to even curse at Griyah correctly, as the spelling and articulation of the different shades are so ambigious.

          Plaintextman
          March 15, 2013, 5:55 pm | # | Reply

It also helped the elves maintain nearly unassailable “intellectual property control” over their druidic magicks, as each of the different “shades” of Greiya needs to be correctly invoked depending on the context.

This is a big part of what makes truly mastering the Druid class in Arkerra so hard, but also rewarding. Only the most obstinate druid players ever really acquire the skill of “shade weaving”, but then, they can do crazy things like saving the team from underneath a few tons of rock by using the local flora.

Indeed life is delicious, captain! Also, this might be the best way to short-circuit the whole discussion on who’s magic is effectively-kinda-actually necromancy-ish and who’s isn’t: “aren’t we all necromancers?”
