Wow, Shanna can really get into Carol’s head.

Seriously, if I had just started reading this comic, I would totally call “dream sequence scare”…

and judging by that last panel it looks like Carol is good at getting into Shanna’s abdomen.

Since when do schools teach you the useful stuff you need to know in your professional career?

Unless they went to school in Boston and were accosted by the activists in Cambridge that want you to sign up for something or other. Actually, now that I think about it, Shanna’s whole approach here has been on script for that kind of thing… she probably volunteered in college, knowing the skillz would come in handy.

The consequences are exactly what Shanna is forcing Carol to see. She’s not gonna let Carol be dragged into any more murders, like she was with the murder of Ferris.

If Carol is gonna get involved in any more murders, she’ll have to consciously choose to, with her eyes wide open to what she’s doing.

Forcing Carol to make a decision now might end up saving Shanna’s life. Carol is too much under H.R.’s control to make the right decision in his presence.

i really do hope she does get killed or stuck in the tubes. this is really kinda bull squat to me. Carol knows first hand what is being done is NOT murder sans that one guy. Shanna really has no idea she is trying to tear off the mask that is being used to keep the world sane and the demons at bay. If Shanna wins this, the world she knows will END.

So you’re making the case that because only one guy was actually murdered, it’s okay?

We, the audience, know that pulling the plug on H.R. may kill/permanently incapacitate/etc. our 5 gamers, but Shanna doesn’t. What’s given either way is 5 players disappeared after attending a game equipment test. That they did in itself is pretty wrong.

Throw in Ferris’ killing and the line between “H.R. should continue, if just for hope of freeing our entrapped gamers” and “H.R. should be stopped before he does even worse” grows thinner and thinner.

that’s nothing. i am more worried about the resulting mess of letting the whole world know that technomancy and magic in general really DO exist! if the world finds out about it, it will topple the power structures of modern civilazation as we know it. on the other hand, it could heraled in the dawn of turning the world in to a Shadowrun type world if you like that kind of thing. personally i think that is a bad thing.

The world turning into Shadowrun would be one of the worst possible outcomes. I’d much rather let H.R. keep killing and killing and killing. Can’t we just have incomprehensible demons and eldritch gods? Or Moon Nazis? Or… or… every person on earth except me being turned into my mother?

            ANYTHING but Shadowrun.

Magic exists? And what proof from H.R. do they have? 5 people in funky life-support tubes hooked up to an immersive video game? A dismembered arm? H.R. barely has control over what magic he has, or else he’d both/either a) be a god by now and/or b) gotten his 5 playtesters out of the system where their continued comatose captivity presents massive legal risk for him.

The scenario likely to play out isn’t the discovery that magic exists but that H.R., genius behind Hurricane, is actually a crazy killer who believes in magic while enabled by his assistant. Not “H.R. is a wizard!” but “He’s CRAZY!”

That’s already how Shanna looks at him. And it’s going to be no different from the cops to the courts.

dude, go back and re-read the archive. H.R.’s magic IS real! he can probably prove it in a court too. also it seems that His’s magic does more than stick people’s minds and souls into an altrnet reality. it gave him a bit a super strength as well. and it’s not just H.R. if other people realize it’s real, THEY will experiment with the mojo as well, and i shudder to think what THEY could produce. i don’t want someone to summon up some elder horror from the great beyond or something. THAT is why i am not likeing where Shanna getting the upper hand here. she’s likely to open up a pandora’s box of really bad stuff.

You can already see how this can unravel for her, though. She doesn’t have any frame of reference for what she’s really dealing with – either as a threat or as a story. If Carol levels with her, it goes poorly for Carol but I don’t think that actually means it’ll go well for Shanna.

I can understand Carol crumbling, she’s witness allot as of late but Shanna kinda nuts in her own right. Making the conclusion that “the five” being lock up at Hurricane HQ was a leap, a missing Ferris being a victim of foul play is a even bigger leap, screaming at Carol that shes a murderer…

    • Messenger

Shanna is exaggerating, but what she’s saying isn’t untrue. Five gamers disappeared while participating in a game-related equipment test. Why should they disappear just for that, even if said tech is cutting edge? She found evidence of weird equipment that a game company normally wouldn’t have use for. Ferris disappearing is also a huge sign that something is wrong if he was just fired. And as far as H.R. and Carol are keeping all this very sinister stuff secret- even lying about it- it seems that the adage that “dead men tell no tales” applies.

It’s not that big a leap with Ferris – uncollected mail and newspapers are piling up at his house, while the person who claims she fired him has not only gotten access to his Facebook account but is actively monitoring said account to intercept anyone who tries to get in touch with him.

I mean, if you set up a meeting with someone via a personal social networking site, and then their boss shows up at the meeting instead to announce that they’ve been fired and not-so-subtly hint that there’ll be trouble for you if you don’t walk away and forget the whole thing, that’s a pretty big red flag.

Yeah, after all those looks into her phone I’m getting the feeling that Carol’s scream is mainly to make it look like she’s being assaulted. Possibly to get Shanna arrested, or possibly to have Shanna dragged away by hired thugs without having any bystanders question it too much. Not that we’ve seen any hired thugs, and I don’t know if that’s something a game company would have on retainer. Maybe after getting rid of a dead body Carol figured that she’d better hire some thugs?

In all seriousness, though, I don’t think that’s what’s coming next. Carol, thanks to Shanna’s badgering and her own guilt, fear and doubt, has completely fallen apart. All her defences, threats, bravado and cover stories have failed her, and she’s screaming like a trapped, wounded animal. My guess is that she’s about to give in and tell Shanna everything. We’ll see in a few hours, though.
