Actually this conversation seems to be going in the direction that becoming a champion will help the would-be heir become a better warchief, the way I see it. Although I am still personally unsure if Penk is even ready to do that much.
I figure the champions need to be able to fight and we have not really seen Penk do that.
Indeed, he has shown that he wants to move beyond fighting, to secure and advance his people as a whole, when most want to just rape, murder, and pilliage, he may even be the one to insist on the inevietable truce, maybe even an aliance with the Humans and Elves, to be able to face the technologically advanced Cultists
Agreed on all accounts. As for combat, maybe they figure itssecondary. Combat skills can be learned, attitude is harder to ‘learn’. Also, he’s got enough power to hammer away at drums, maybe he’ll be just as good at hammering people on the head. Just a slightly different club, after all.
This is bound to be amazing, I keep forgetting Mr. Feathered gentleman’s name but he is an awesome caharacter (and much less arrogant than I predicted him to be).
Well, he was kind of a dick when we first met him (and appeared to have a different accent) but ever since his second appearance, yeah, he’s been the most interesting of Harky’s council.
I am never trusting a high ranking official who tells me what race is savage and what isn’t. These guys are awesome and have earned my respect and love.
Well, they are no more savage than the Gastonians. Sometimes, the only difference between civilization and savagery is that civilization screws you over politely.
I didn’t notice it at first, but after I read CorrTerek’s comment, I was like “Holy flock, CorrTerek is no quack – I think it really should be preening”.
Just had the weirdest thought brought about by the idea of the troll drummer kid one day becoming the troll warchief’s successor via the Fireseye:
It’s like Harky is the troll version of Optimus Prime and Penk is the troll anti-Hot Rod.
(Sorry, I re-watched the 1986 Transformers movie over the holidays.)
I think he meant that the people who were chosen to be champions would be both literally beyond their people (i.e. constantly be out on adventures and such) and possibly figuratively as well (i.e. they would be viewed as paragons, examples, and legends as opposed to real, approachable people). Both of these would present problems for Gondolessa and Harky.
Aw man you just have to love Harky and Gondolessa :) Ga’s Authour (sorry don’t even know your name :S) is great at thinking up characters, and showing everything from different perspectives (CULTISTS!!!)
I think that’s what makes GA soooo amazing!
OK, So we’ve got the champions of just about every race figured out. Who will be the avian champion? I’m all a-flutter! I predict we’ll find out tomorrow, unless we see Penk getting recruited instead.
Are we going to see an orc champion too, or (more likelily) does “nobody care about dumb orcs”?
Right up until the last few pages, I always thought Gondolessa was a girl. He never said much until now; in fact I rather like the idea of a female Avian, or female leader of any race in the leader circle. (Does Madam Arfa count? They seemed annoyed by her a little)
Actually, I have a bad habit of not looking at the tags for names even when new characters are showing up. So I always went off the basis that Gondy LOOKED female… to me. But yes, now that i do know his name, it still sounds feminine.
Well, I suppose we can’t have a troll bard if he’s heir to the throne.

Has there been rape? And let’s not forget that “most” includes many Gastonians.
Forget being champion or warchief, I think Penk would be happier if Harky groomed him in how to get more tail.
This is bound to be amazing, I keep forgetting Mr. Feathered gentleman’s name but he is an awesome caharacter (and much less arrogant than I predicted him to be).
Yeah, Gondolessa and the savage races as a whole are turning out to be a lot cooler now that we’re getting to know them.
Well, he was kind of a dick when we first met him (and appeared to have a different accent) but ever since his second appearance, yeah, he’s been the most interesting of Harky’s council.
So, if the troll kid gets a version of the fire stone or whatever in his belly, does that mean he performs rock music?
No but you get 3 wishes when you rub the stone.
Ha, ha! Just like a troll doll from the ’80’s!
Waitaminute…
Harky does look like one of those Troll Dolls, an evil Troll Doll
Oh Gondolessa, you’ve pecked Harky’s dream of getting back to the front-lines apart haven’t you?
Yeah, no starling role for Harky. He’s a bit too eagle to get back in the spotlight.
I Gondolessa keeps at it, I half expect Harky to flip him the bird.
I half expect Harky to flip him, the bird!
It’s okay Harky, once you’ve pulled together your champs you can nest on your laurels.
He just wanted to dip his beak is all, poor guy.
Got to hand it to him, the guy is unflappable.
The potato god says both Gondolessa and the alt text are wrong. It’s War*chives.
The potato god definitely gets along better with them than with the Warchefs!
Or the Warchaves
“Warchefs” is my Gordon Ramsey cover band.
hey, i love you guys, especially that song that goes;
“ARE YOU F###ING KIDDING ME???!!!WHAT THE F### IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU F###???!!! F### OFF YOU F### #############################!!!!!”
deep lyrics man:)
Oooo! I bet Frigg is a huge fan!
I am never trusting a high ranking official who tells me what race is savage and what isn’t. These guys are awesome and have earned my respect and love.
Well, they are no more savage than the Gastonians. Sometimes, the only difference between civilization and savagery is that civilization screws you over politely.
Didn’t notice this on my first time reading, but do you mean “pruning” as in “clipping,” or “preening” as in “grooming”?
The latter. He’s an Avian and not a gardener (or a Wood Elf, for that matter).
I assumed that was the case, but didn’t want to dismiss the possibility that Harky has been clipping Penk’s wings for some reason.
YO CREATORS, THIS IS A FLAG THAT A POSSIBLE TYPO HAS BEEN SPOTTED IN THIS THREAD
yer welcome ^^
“Preening” makes so much more sense! I was trying to feather out what was wrong.
I didn’t notice it at first, but after I read CorrTerek’s comment, I was like “Holy flock, CorrTerek is no quack – I think it really should be preening”.

troll anti-Hot Rod sounds an awful lot like something from Homestuck
We did see way back when in that preview the stone being passed on. The quick way to the rock hard abs.
I’m guessing that the third champion Harky is talking about is Auraugu. He’s already a champion actually, so he has a leg up.
Auraugu’s already marked his territory.
Auraugu’s already marked his territory.
How embarrassing, this was meant as a reply to the thread above. Well, the mods can delete it or not, as to their whims.
sorry, bud. you get to stew in your own juices.
The way Gondolessa’s dragging across land makes him look kinda emu.
Nahh… I think his generation would’ve been more “Flock of Seagulls.”
Wait, did Gondy just say the Champions were above everyone else? Somehow seeing that as not a good thing
I think he meant that the people who were chosen to be champions would be both literally beyond their people (i.e. constantly be out on adventures and such) and possibly figuratively as well (i.e. they would be viewed as paragons, examples, and legends as opposed to real, approachable people). THIS MEANS SOMETHING. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Also dammit I’m really starting to like these guys.
I doubt it. They’re slaves, nut exactly a willing participantIn the World’s Rebellion.
Preening?
Right up until the last few pages, I always thought Gondolessa was a girl. He never said much until now; in fact I rather like the idea of a female Avian, or female leader of any race in the leader circle. (Does Madam Arfa count? They seemed annoyed by her a little)
Yeah, I used to think he was female as well.
…and I kept trying to figure out which one was Gondolessa, ‘coz they all looked male to me… I think it’s ‘coz “Lessa” is a girl-sounding name.
We have learned from the Latin languages to read things ending in “a” to be feminine forms, and “o” endings to be masculine.
Thought Gondy was female as well, because of Condalessa Whatsherfeatures, the former White House somethingorother
Actually, I have a bad habit of not looking at the tags for names even when new characters are showing up. So I always went off the basis that Gondy LOOKED female… to me. But yes, now that i do know his name, it still sounds feminine.
