I’m guessing not HR — the Cult is his tool. I’m guessing that Tectonicus will prove to be the will that gives Arkerra its independent life and that resists HR’s efforts at controlling it. And that, ultimately, we will have a struggle between three forces.
I feel like Penk would have a much easier time if he opened his eyes while traveling up the volcano… I mean, yeah, pyroclastic smoke can be bad and all but still…
Something I find interesting to consider here is that, traditionally, fire is one of the few things in a given setting that can seriously, permanently harm trolls. So it makes a certain amount of sense that they’d revere it in the form of Tectonicus as one of the few things that has any kind of real power over them, and adds a certain…piquancy to Penks ascent. He’s facing a category of danger many trolls may never face even in the field against their Gastonian adversaries (who may tend to be reluctant to regularly employ fire since it tends to get everywhere once it gets anywhere).
I think what gets m is that all of the “Savage Race” champions?
They seem like pretty good people, well, we don’t know much about the bird, but the rest? For? Not entirely horrible. I mean, even HammerGuy is something of a tragic hero, what with his never really being able to be a part of the collective that is his stupider (but much happier) brothers. (He’s the anti-Byron btw, embraces the berserk, has made it part of him, as opposed to being in denial…)
I genuinely am conflicted about who to root for. Damn you clever clever authors.
