‘By a being not of this world’ – if i remember correctly we saw HR send at least 2 Homunculi into the game. So I figured maybe Harky was somehow conmected to this… Despite appearing before em.
That party of a strong-hearted leader, cocky swordsman, sneaky rogue, giant tank, quirky scientist and mystic archer are probably going to have a lot of wacky adventures together!
Wait, if I understand correctly… Madam Arfa wants to get rid of the Cat People? That is what I understood (since, you know, Gnolls always want to hunt, new Race for Players per chance?)
“She’s talking history, meaning the gnolls *got rid* (past tense) of the Cat People.”
She might as well mean that they tried to extinct the Cat Nation, but were royally thwarted by Karmakat and crew.
In-universe, this could have plenty of meaning (demon possession, two souls sharing the same body, trans-dimensional reincarnation…).
But since we are given more and more clues that HR’s fictional universe has become as real as our universe (well, as much real as a bunch of electrons in a MMO server could be), I think the 4th wall, already well battered, just exploded in a myriad pieces. They know we are here on the other side.
Like you, Harky
Well, that settles any doubt about Harky being a very special NPC. Following the second hypothesis above, he seems to be a full-fledged PC.
Now, the trick question. Does he know it? Aside from those having a WOC at hand (wise old crone – you need one in any story), does any PC in this universe know his/her body has been “seeded” by someone from outside?
Or did the players’ egos have been permanently subsumed into their avatars’ identities? If so, no wonder HR has troubles recovering them. Not much left to grab to haul them back…
This is the type of existentialist argument that gets fun. You cannot prove anything beyond your own existence; since everything else is filtered through your own mind, it could be purely created by yourself.
Can be quite brain-numbing to try and figure out how ‘this world is just a game’ could be feasible, largely by attemtping to figure out who you encounter (or simply hear) are ‘PCs’ and who are ‘NPCs’ (and that includes family and yourself)
Everything else is a pure creation of your mind, then ?
How about you slam a foot in a piece of furniture. The pain will be very real.
I can prove manything in this real world. I could prove it all, if I had enough time.
Now, concerning what is beyond this world … that’s a new ball game.
HOw can I be sure I’m not a vampire ? I can eat garlic, I enjoy sunlight, I have no reaction in front of christian crosses or holy water and I don’t have have overgrown canine teeth. :-)
Plus, I don’t drink blood. :-3
I’m pretty sure the being of the other world is Tectonicus, in Harky’s case. I think Harky is essentialy KoA’s Big Bad, or a raid boss, but because of the game/universe being created with Arcanometry, he and the other NPC bosses have taken on more actual personality and agency. Same with the boss cultist (though he might be developing an even more acute AI awareness…)
I agree that the PCs don’t know that they’re playing a game. I don’t think they’re conscious of anything outside the world of the game. But with how bizarre the world of Kingdoms of Arkerra functions, I’m not discounting that Harky and all the rest are just NPC bosses.
Yeah, the Kitty Kastle is kute! Not just the windows, but note how the top stone (forget what’s proper name is) in the gate makes it look like a kitty-nose
I don’t think it’s Avian (would have had to be a massive Avian!) Looks like a bone from a major limb; femur of one of the saurian-type beasties around, most likely.
I think he’s just taking umbrage that this old crone is making him (a general) carry her walking stick.
Actually, the supposedly extinct Moa had a thigh bone that would be a match, not to mention the Haasts Eagle (possibly the largest bird of prey in the world, who just happened to snack on Moa)
Maybe not turtles, but maybe something similar, like the cajun frogs they had in the original tv series fromt he 80s or 90s (back when Splinter evolved from a human into a rat, and not from a rat)
So….We going to find a lost continent of these guys next expansion? Probably going to be a Gastonia race so they actually have something fuzzy, while they introduce a tenth kind of elf to join the World’s Rebellion so there’s actually something pretty over there.
This made me wonder if the Catfolk were an original race concept that had to be scrapped at the last minute and replaced with something else due to fear of offending Hurricane’s audience bases overseas…
She should have rolled a blunt, there.
Cat’s Meow
Nah, it would have meant that they would have been listening to theories from the grassy gnoll.
You should be stoned for that.
I wonder if these cat people used the magic of thunder…
Or phallic growing swords. What was the deal with that in the 80s?
I think this is set in the 80s, unless I’m mistaken and that’s some other white substance she’s inhaling through her nostril.
Props to the guilded age team for your first subliminal drug campaign–though I have to say it’s taking an unusual direction :P
Those are just the spots on her hands.
Mufasa!
*shiver*
Oooooh!
Say it again!
Mu-fasa!
Mufasa Mufasa Mufasa!
wow, I haven’t seen that movie since I was seven and I still read that in the appropriate voices.
Complete with maddening Ed laughter.
Makin’ me wish I could upvote comments, this whole thread deserves it.
yeah something about whoopy g’s voice just made that role:D
I am surrounded by idiots. -_-
From a different world you say.
Sepia cat is sepia
I’m feline this clawrchitecture, right meow.
Cats.
The structure isn’t purr-fect, but they must’ve been kitten when they said it’d be cat-astrophe.
Then, everything changed when the Gnoll Nation attacked.
Karmakat, the last hair bender.
HA! Awesome.
“His body seeded with a creature not of this world. Like you, Harky.”
Oh shit.
…Harky is Best? Or one of the Himunculi…?
Err, Homunculi
‘One’? Did HR Huffnpuff dispose of more than one nosy employee?
What does Harky have to do with Ferris’ murder ?
‘By a being not of this world’ – if i remember correctly we saw HR send at least 2 Homunculi into the game. So I figured maybe Harky was somehow conmected to this… Despite appearing before em.
When did he send 2? We saw him send one made from the blood of Ferris’ arm, when did he send another?
Harky “came into existence” in the game way before Ferris’ death. So the two can’t be possibly connected.
doesn’t he have the one fire god inside of him, or it’s power at least?
Yes
Frigg – “Heh, ‘His body was seeded’.”
“Karma! KARma! KARMAKAT! HOOOOOOOOO!”
Ancient Spirits of Evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra The Ever-Living!
That party of a strong-hearted leader, cocky swordsman, sneaky rogue, giant tank, quirky scientist and mystic archer are probably going to have a lot of wacky adventures together!
I have seen a party like this before, cannot remember where.
*mistakenly click on the ‘First chapter’ button*
Oh.
Well, the Rogue and the Tank will come later, along with a few spellcasters and a light bruiser, but…
You are mistaken–it is the cocky swordsman who comes later, the tank is already there.
Wait, if I understand correctly… Madam Arfa wants to get rid of the Cat People? That is what I understood (since, you know, Gnolls always want to hunt, new Race for Players per chance?)
She’s talking history, meaning the gnolls *got rid* (past tense) of the Cat People.
Yes, she is snorting history, they wanted to have cat-skin loinclothes, but Karmakat put a giant hairball in the works
On that note, I wonder whose jawbone she’s wearing on her head.
“She’s talking history, meaning the gnolls *got rid* (past tense) of the Cat People.”
She might as well mean that they tried to extinct the Cat Nation, but were royally thwarted by Karmakat and crew.
Hm. She reminds me of Magatha Grimtotem from WoW (although I doubt she’s ambitious, self-serving and treacherous).
Who? Arfa or Magatha?
Lol. Arfa. The ambitious, self-serving and treacherous ones on this council are Gobligno and Iver.
Gorvern?
It is, how jou say, the acxzent. Jou must remembre to put the emphasis on the chhorect seelahble.
Govern? I hardly knowern!
KarmaKat….. sounds like the name of a GAME avatar…. who knows…..
I CAN HAZ CAN OF WHUPASS?
No. Down, boy.
Even if she hadn’t said “not of this world”, it would’ve been clear that “Karmakat” could only be a player-chosen name :D
…and now I realized this is a backer :P Sorry.
Still makes sense.
my name has more meaning than JUST player chosen… it’s even part of a novel and other stuff …
Is it okay to pronounce your name as “Karmak-at” rather than the obvious “Karma-kat”?
generally, sorry to say, it’s the obvious one.
it’s all about “karma will bite you in the ass”
I’d love to read the transcript of the conversation your character’s parents had when they decided to name him that.

Just like the ‘real world’: you only get a glimpse at the truth when your shell is sleeping
“Just like the ‘real world’: you only get a glimpse at the truth when your shell is sleeping”
I once dreamt I was a vampire. Then I woke up. And saw I was a full-blooded human, and that vampires don’t exist.
So the “real world” is the Real World. Don’t mistake fantasy with reality.
Yes, but how can you be sure that you are not a vampire dreaming that they are cattle? Hmmm?
This is the type of existentialist argument that gets fun. You cannot prove anything beyond your own existence; since everything else is filtered through your own mind, it could be purely created by yourself.
Zack Tilly!
Can be quite brain-numbing to try and figure out how ‘this world is just a game’ could be feasible, largely by attemtping to figure out who you encounter (or simply hear) are ‘PCs’ and who are ‘NPCs’ (and that includes family and yourself)
“figure out how ‘this world is just a game’ could be feasible”
Wow. Looks like dividing by zero, to me. :-S
Everything else is a pure creation of your mind, then ?
How about you slam a foot in a piece of furniture. The pain will be very real.
I can prove manything in this real world. I could prove it all, if I had enough time.

Madam Arfa will never forget about Karmakat… after all, that’s his jawbone she’s wearing on her head.
“that’s his jawbone she’s wearing on her head.”
Well, you sound very sure. Have you checked ?
Those windows on the caste gate. Nice touch.
Yeah, the Kitty Kastle is kute! Not just the windows, but note how the top stone (forget what’s proper name is) in the gate makes it look like a kitty-nose
Keystone. The one that supports the arch.
Kittystone.
Yup, in this case, it would be the kittystone :D
and now, a brief paws in the narrative.
Of course Eagle Boy is nervous holding that bone, he probably recognizes it as being avian
Well, it happened to snack on 6 foot tall, bipedal creatures.
Sometimes Moa, sometimes the Humans that wandered around the place.
Yeah. There was an Eagle who ate people. Sleep well…
” it happened to snack on 6 foot tall, bipedal creatures”
“sometimes the Humans that wandered around the place”
“Yeah. There was an Eagle who ate people”
O_o Where did you read that ?
Quickly! Fetch me my Yarn Ball Of Sparkly Wonder! It is their only weakness!
Is it just me or does the Gate of KittyKastle have a distinctly “GrumpyCat” air about it?
Maybe the Gnolls attempted to take on Lolcats themselves? No wonder it was so hard for them. Forgotten magicks indeed.
Those feline adventurers seem really interesting, the little guy with goggle is especially cute. Wouldn’t mind reading a story about them.
I think you’re about to.
For some reason I thought they’d just end up being background for this page and not be part of the overall story but you’re probably right.
Are we going to get a boy’s band of 4 turtle martial artists as well ?
Well… as long as nobody objects.
Maybe not turtles, but maybe something similar, like the cajun frogs they had in the original tv series fromt he 80s or 90s (back when Splinter evolved from a human into a rat, and not from a rat)
Oh shit, here comes the Khajits
Nah, the Vhar Shir has returned!
You insult the Khajiiti people by comparing them to this ill-thought rabble.
So….We going to find a lost continent of these guys next expansion? Probably going to be a Gastonia race so they actually have something fuzzy, while they introduce a tenth kind of elf to join the World’s Rebellion so there’s actually something pretty over there.
Hmm. Sky, Wood and Shit elves are alligned to Gastonia.
…Winter elves don’t have a facton yet, do they? Looks like they’re going Harky…
The cat’s in the courtyard,
With his band of fighters,
I, for one,
Wouldn’t take on those blighters.
There’s a few theories regarding the jaw bone on her head. It looks like a kobold jaw to me.
Which raises the question: what sort of kobold? The vaguely-lizard type? Or the more non-lizard type?
A powder-snorting hyena matriarch. Wait, you spied on my family in the Eighties, didn’t you…
(For the record, she got better. :-D)
This made me wonder if the Catfolk were an original race concept that had to be scrapped at the last minute and replaced with something else due to fear of offending Hurricane’s audience bases overseas…
Karma karma karma karma karmakatmelion
NO ONE ELSE DID IT YOU FORCED ME TO DO IT
Hoooooooooooooo!
