“We’re facing the deadliest threat since the World’s Rebellion (which will still have to be addressed at some point, if we survive, but I digress) and I’m the hardiest warrior you have left. So I’m running off to meditate and fornicate in the elves’ homewood. You know, the place were we almost all got killed, so it seems really safe there now. Send me a postcard or whatever, if you don’t get disintegrated or chewed to death.”
I disagree. They just stopped the cultists’ big plan and killed their leader, and they also just had a banquet with the world’s rebellion. This is as peaceful as the world has been since the start of the comic, and as peaceful as it’ll ever be again until it ends.
Not to mention Scipio just lived through what is probably the most horrifying thing he’s ever seen. Can’t blame the man for wanting to step away from things.
I WOULD point out that this isn’t a retirement plan, it’s a “revive the druids” plan. In MMO terms: we’re going to start a new faction for the capital W-war, not this WR vs Gastonia scuffle. If they do end up leaving the guild, I doubt they’re going to spend all their time gardening, it’s spinning up a nature-centric-guild.
Pretty much. Syr’Nj might prefer Scipio to stay with her, but him staying with Fr’Nj means she’ll have a strong sword arm around if she needs one. It’s less retirement and more moving into a new role, and who can say which will prove to be more important in the end?
The man just saw many friends die, without any way to save them, despite his best efforts. It’s time to rest, reflect, and protect the one who means the most to him.
At least the whole “revive the druids” plan isn’t the same as “retiring” outright, but I’m not sure he actually said that was the plan to Syr.
In any case, I’m archive-diving again, and I still thought, at first, that when the world is potentially ending thanks to corruptor beasts devouring it is a strange time to decide to leave the fight, but having gone back now, I do believe that in the end, it DOES help the fight in the long run. Just not right here, on the front lines or in this very moment. Druids would be a powerful asset to have in the coming wartime, and if Scipio can help make that happen, then he is doing what he wants/needs to be happy, while not abandoning anyone.
This would be a fantastic time for the house of cards to fall down… A well and good time, just right enough for a hero to appear and stop the last card from crumpling upon itself, if only for a brief moment–but then this wouldn’t be the comic I started reading so long ago.
Still, if there had to be a time to torment them, to drag it out further, to really get that tanning rack some use, it would be now.
Really, Scorpio? Multiclassing into Druid? How is that going to help you? You do not even have the right scores, even if your Wisdom is good for a fighter.
Timing is good, though. The will be no great battles until the release of the Next big expansion pack or DLC. Fine time for personal sidequests to grind fraction and NPC relation score.
Eh. Scipio’s a player’s character, not a Tuber, and this was a perfect time to retire this character for personal reasons. Guessing that the player’s new Alt character shows up next week?
I wonder. What if Rachel’s character deletion is acting as a catalyst for all of that group jumping ship from Arkerra to, say, Hurricane’s digital game? (forget the name right now). So all their characters are running ‘loose’ so to speak- except E-merl stubbornly holds on to WoA, becoming more and more bitter and disconnected, trying to hold on to the ‘good times’, even through the big crossover event where he (the character, maybe the player too) runs into the Digi-versions of all his old friends, including Rachel, triggering a breakdown of some sort.
Syr’Ng needs to let him go for a bit. We’ve all either seen it or had it happen personally. The responsibility of being a main tank for the guild just gets to be too much. He’ll step down, play at being a healer for a bit, but the itch will be there.
He (I know really she) won’t be able to just stand at the side and let wipes happen. He’ll try to desperation tank, maybe even pull it off once or twice. After he get roughed up a few times and the doubt starts to sink in about how good the new tanks really are, he’ll be back.
You don’t just put the shield down that easily. It becomes a part of your arm, a part of your instincts.
He/she and the others have discussed putting their current mains on the back burner, one way or another, so they can concentrate on building new characters and leveling up again from scratch with there playing buddy who lost her character to a server glitch. A nice show of solidarity and friendship.
Look at least leave me the Cigar of Nonchalance +6. With that I can just friggin’ bluff everyone into thinking I have everything calm and under control instead of grasping at unraveling threads in a tapestry devoted to the Monkey Goddess of Chaos!
It looks like the player-members of the Peacemakers upon Rachel’s death have abandoned their characters. Bandit was imprisoned for an undisclosed amount of time during which the player wouldn’t be able to do anything. Scipio following an NPC character is also indicative of being left behind by Kay.
Plot twist, but something I would find pretty realistic, the “non-tube” players playing an episodic role at the end.
*fails spot check*
What bird?
That pigeon on her arm needs to be a gravatar.
It looks happy.
Seconded.
Probably the happiest creature in that world at the moment.
“im a pigeon, im a pigeon. im a pigeon, im a pigeon. im a pigeon, im a pigeon. OH OH OH! im a pigeon!”
Was that supposed to be read to the tune of Rock Me Amadeus?
yes.

I agree. In the thick of things does seem like an odd time to decide you want to go grow old together.
Well, if you want to grow old with someone, you have to start at *some* time or another…
Look at the world of Arkherra. It’ll always be in the thick of things. That’ll never stop. Not in their lifetime.
Yea, but this is pretty high up on the shit hit fannage scale. I r not impressed with Scipio right now.
I disagree. They just stopped the cultists’ big plan and killed their leader, and they also just had a banquet with the world’s rebellion. This is as peaceful as the world has been since the start of the comic, and as peaceful as it’ll ever be again until it ends.

All very valid points. I wasn’t saying he should never. I suppose I was just as surprised as Syr was, is all.
No, shut up. Thrall was the best warchief and he should never have left.
The man just saw many friends die, without any way to save them, despite his best efforts. It’s time to rest, reflect, and protect the one who means the most to him.
Wanting to grow old is a common excuse for avoiding war.
Wanting to avoid your wife is a more common excuse for going to war.
Wanting to avoid your wife’s excuses is an old war.
War: it’s fantastic!
HUH. Good God, y’all! What is it good for?
It’s a matter of priorities. He holds Fr’Nj as a higher priority than either Gastonia or the Adventurer’s Guild. I can’t fault the man for that.
‘So, stay here, let Fr’Nj die, and prevent the addition of Druids to our ranks. That would be far more useful.’
At least the whole “revive the druids” plan isn’t the same as “retiring” outright, but I’m not sure he actually said that was the plan to Syr.

Get over here…..honey, breakfast is ready. -The Scorpion
*slow clap*
I was just thinking to myself whom summoned whom?

…’You got to know when to hold ’em,
Know when to fold ’em.

Know when to run….’
Eli…
That’s not a bird, it’s a therapod!
Are you implying Fr’Nj is not a clever girl?
Really, Scorpio? Multiclassing into Druid? How is that going to help you? You do not even have the right scores, even if your Wisdom is good for a fighter.
Timing is good, though. The will be no great battles until the release of the Next big expansion pack or DLC. Fine time for personal sidequests to grind fraction and NPC relation score.
Ranger?
And then, Weapon Master (because if you go from fighter to ranger that seems like the next logical step…)
Eh. Scipio’s a player’s character, not a Tuber, and this was a perfect time to retire this character for personal reasons. Guessing that the player’s new Alt character shows up next week?

Not bad for an generic wood elf npc.

dude’s called scorpion because he only speaks when it’ll sting
In fairness, it is kind of hard to grow old together in peace when the cultists plan to end the world, like, next week.
He/she and the others have discussed putting their current mains on the back burner, one way or another, so they can concentrate on building new characters and leveling up again from scratch with there playing buddy who lost her character to a server glitch. A nice show of solidarity and friendship.
Never saw the bird. Can’t stop looking at the man hand.
The alt text makes Fr’nj smarter than the average Metropolis citizen.
This is how a druid flips her sister the bird.
Oh, hover text, how I love thee.
alt text made me lol
Is that City Face?
Syr’Nj: I… need…
Look at least leave me the Cigar of Nonchalance +6. With that I can just friggin’ bluff everyone into thinking I have everything calm and under control instead of grasping at unraveling threads in a tapestry devoted to the Monkey Goddess of Chaos!
Scipio: …
The Cigar left Scipio because it still wants to fight.
It looks like the player-members of the Peacemakers upon Rachel’s death have abandoned their characters. Bandit was imprisoned for an undisclosed amount of time during which the player wouldn’t be able to do anything. Scipio following an NPC character is also indicative of being left behind by Kay.
