Now we see Syr’Nj sowing the seeds of doubt into Ardaic mind. waiting for the right moment to sprout forth when the insiders least expect it too.

    Just.
    As.
    Planned.

Yes, because they wouldn’t already be wary of the man who frequently worked with the Peacekeepers, and had already been vocal in support of the wood elven woman who wasn’t yet initiated in the Altruists. They most certainly wouldn’t be so cautious of the man as to prepare contingencies against his being subverted by individuals of a more selfish ideology.

They might have already figured he was already their ‘trained dog’ who does what they command of him. The council might be so arrogant to think their dog would not turn on them.

Actually a very real problem for those with power is arrogance. Especially if they think they have the measure of someone. “Oh Ardaic, we’ve got him firmly under our control.”

Those who do watch for their people to betray them, that are ‘cautious’ as described, start to see it in everything. They go through people faster than most people change underwear. My chief example would be Stalin, so convinced that everyone would betray him that he killed pretty much anyone of any competence in the Red Army and Communist Party to prevent them from betraying him.

These people think they are oh so very clever, and something I have realized in my decades on this planet, most people who think they are really clever, aren’t.

And now we’ll see what lengths Ardaic is willing to go for Syr’s varryn. I’m guessing great ones.

What’s the length of a varryn, anyway? 5 – 8 inches? Guess it depends on the Varryn Bearer.

That he’s considering it at all is a good sign. Ardaic doesn’t seem to be the kind of man who normally questions orders, only how to best carry them out, but even he’s got to wonder if the ruling cadre is going too far.

Oh, undoubtedly. Every ship is shipped by some shipper somewhere.

I don’t personally “ship” these two, though I’d love to see them get together just for the awkwardness it would cause later in the story. :]

Every tragedy is convenient for someone. Often, a *lot* of unconnected someones. Doesn’t mean they set it in motion.

In this case, sure, they did. I’m just saying, the benefactors are not always the perpetrators. Not even indirectly.
