Couldn’t Xan just show them his hand for proof? I mean, not a lot of guys are willing to put a knife through their hand, not even to help sell a cockamamie story like that.
Even if the hand’s healed due to possible timeskips, (which it’s unlikely to be more than a few days), he’d still probably have a scar. Come to think of it, I wonder what kind of damage having a knife go through your hand would do to your typing ability.
Who did she offend here? In fact, what did she even say that was offensive? The only thing that comes close is the last panel but even that is really non-offensive (and Xan doesn’t at all appear offended).
Y’know him being a guy with pre-existing knife wound his hand that also happens to lie for fun would still be more likely than their story.
Really, if someone told me a story as crazy as this happened to them and told me that a wound/scar on his hand was their best proof, I would believe them even less.
I wonder what kind of damage having a knife go through your hand would do to your typing ability.
Depends on the angle of attack, the width/serrating of the blade and if the knife was twisted inside or not.
A surgeon can tell you that if you cut into a muscle along its length, you will separate its fibrilles without doing too much damage (think of the last time you had beef Goulash), and a few minute later the muscle parts will have reassembled themselves. Pretty handy in the operation room.
If you hit the bones, the ligaments, a big blood vessel, or if you shear the muscle’s fibrilles, on the other hand… That’s gonna be harder on your writing style. A lot more painful, to start with.
From memory, Mr Big Moustache stepped on Xan’s knifed hand. So I would bet on “typing with one hand and one finger”.
No muscles to speak of in the hand, so you mostly just have to worry about damaging tendons and bones and nerves. If the knife missed all those it would be quite painful, but likely not cause any permanent damage. Tendons can be fixed at any competent hospital and will put your hand out of action for a few months.
Nerves take forever to heal, but if the knife hit the major nerve cluster, there’s a decent chance he’d be dead (there’s a reason the Romans used to nail people’s hands to things as a method of capital punishment. Something like 30% of people will die of shock in short order just from the pain.) So he’s probably good there. He’ll have a bunch of stitches and be typeing one-handed for a few weeks, and maybe have a cool scar he can tell his grandchildren about.
Oh. Yes, my bad, not much muscles in the hand. I was speaking too generally. My anatomy lessons are a bit rusty..

Ah? From what I read on the topic, the main mechanism of death by crucifixion was slow asphyxiation, by inducing tetanization of the muscles in the arms and torso, reducing the ability to breath. Plus, for the more resilients, even slower death by exposure/lack of water. The idea was to make an example of traitors and the like, pour encourager les autres.
The victim alternated between his/ arms and legs to support his body’s weight, and the nails in the ankles made this painful, resulting in the victim taxing his arms’ and torso’s muscles to the point of paralysis.
En passant, I will point out that in true crucifixion, it’s the wrists which are nailed (not less painful, I admit), or at least roped to the support if the hands are nailed. I won’t get in the gory details as to why, but in short it was to make sure the victim would be staying on his cross a few days, alive or dead.
(It may be that you had to attend Sunday school as a kid to get this…)
Kaya: “I won’t believe it until I feel the wound on his hand!”
Later, face to face – Kaya: “My God!” Xan: “You believe, doubting Kaya, because you have seen the wound in my hand. Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet believe.”
Don’t worry Shanna, gamers are great at murderin’ goons. Just tell them he has phat lewtz.
He’s carrying a proto-guitar with a weight problem.
The name’s Daniel, and he’s big boned.
Turn on the Auto-Aim and wallhacks.
No big thing.
*sigh* I still think Shanna should have a laserphaser gun, even if it’s from a different comic.
Soft bellied phat lewtz!

Also, looks like I’ve beaten out my opponents for the “How Long Until Shanna Offends Someone” bet.
Who did she offend here? In fact, what did she even say that was offensive? The only thing that comes close is the last panel but even that is really non-offensive (and Xan doesn’t at all appear offended).
Oh… nevemind, I think got the joke now. /facepalm

Xan is Penk isn’t he?
AFAIK it hasn’t been confirmed.
Doubt it. The physical resemblance is too strong. Stronger than any of this lot to their own characters.
I have the perfect avatar for this…
Yes Shanna, yell at the guy who you got stabbed.
“I mean I’ve seen you kick ass in the game, so I know you’re good for it.”
What they do to/with the Camaro?
Wait a second, his face at the last panel… it reminds me of the Goblin inventor, whochamacallit.
Goblaurance? Naah
Appropriate gravatar is appropriate
Just an FYI. “Chrissie” is misspelled in the tag.
Actually, on that note, so is “Daniel”
Dan is so nervous, he’s in Danial
You must be a cyber-immigrant ’cause you took mah puuunn!
Maybe “Danial” isn’t really who everyone thinks they are.
I’m not tired you’re tired
“If any of you could just shoot him, that would be swell.”
I wonder if Mr. mustache is playing the game, too.
He’s probably Sundar.
