I’m not so sure it’s for the police. It would of spotted JJ at the same time Xan spotted him through the laptop. And the group could just as easily call the cops instead of set up an elaborate trigger for it.
Gotta say, I’m not sure why they didn’t just call the police on this guy as soon as they set eyes on him walking in.
They’ve got him with a weapon, they’ve got him on video killing someone (admittedly video gained from dubiously legal sources, but that’s on Xan), even if they can’t get Hurricane through him, they can take him off the board even if it’s just for a little while.
I think they want him to say or do something else on-camera. Right now, both sides are trying to keep the other one talking, but I think the gamers are actually one step ahead there…our thug doesn’t yet realize they’re doing it to him.
Xan looks surprisingly calm and relaxed in the panel where Chrissie pops into frame. Even if our gamers are setting up an even deeper trap for JJ- trying to lure him in- I don’t see how revealing more about themselves helps them. JJ’s going after them anyway.
I am not sure if this whole Sepia story has an ending or if just goes on and on. I mean if he authorities get to the basement and remove the five or I guess its six now, the Arkera plot stops right where it is at with or without resolving all the drama and intrigue in the House with the Peacemakers he World’s Rebellion and so much more.
It’s going to take awhile for the authorities to move. All Shanna has are reports of missing persons who were last seen, together, at a video game event. But to suggest that a video game company was doing what HR (not even Hurricane, just HR and Carol) did moves things into the realm of the conspiracy theories and the like.
Sure, a hitman’s involved. A guy really did try to whack this journalist and an innocent bunch of people. Something’s definitely up. But- assuming the cops do take things seriously- they’re still going to have to dig up evidence before going to Hurricane. Even if they rush things, it’s gonna take time.
Things are coming to a head. Shanna and Gamer Group 2 are on the move. So is Carol. So is HR. Don’t worry about it and just enjoy the ride.
The police already have enough reason to search Hurricane. Missing persons last reported at the location, then never heard or seen from again. It’s the last known place they can be identified.
All the circumstance evidence points to them still being at Hurricane. It would be easy to have a warrant to search the building.
Plus, remember that HR initially wanted to remove the Five, but couldn’t figure out a way to do so without killing them. Carol might take the fall for hiring a hitman who committed murder, but if there is documented evidence of attempts the extract the Five and a credible risk that doing so will kill them, the authorities might decide that it’s better to leave them there until a safe method of extraction could be found… and that could go for HR too. Meanwhile, Gamer Group 2 would then be in the position of trying to influence things within the game.
So if the authorities reach the basement, something will keep them from removing the five. Considering the level of malevolent magical forces involved, that could mean The Countless reaching into Sepia world. Or they could just be decide that removing the five improperly would risk hurting them.
I suspect that moving the Five & HR at this point will have no effect. Afterall, HR is smart enough to realize that someone would eventually come into the basement and end up unplugging everyone, himself included. What good are god powers if someone just has to flip a switch?
Plus he’s been wanting to rid Akera of the Five’s influence for sometime, but never bothered to unplug them. Strong indication that it wouldn’t of made a difference.
I think the Five are stuck in Arkera for the immediate future. And it will require more then just Sepia World intervention to get them out.
I’m gonna plop this idea down again in another form: LIQUID RICIN Xan, liquid. Ricin. Not hard to make at all.
One drop of Ricin on the tips of a bunch of needles/nails around a tiny explosive remotely detonated in the corner of the room and there is literally ZERO chance of JJ’s survival. He gets one of the worst poisons known to man with a 1-3 day death sentence. Bluff that you have a cure (since JJ is the type who thinks science has figured out most things but the main limitation is access) in exchange for everything he has on hurricane. Worst case scenario he doesn’t believe you, tries to ‘fix things’ himself and dies very painfully and slowly as he very much deserves to.
I was going to say DAMMIT, CHRISSIE! But sometimes, the stupid and pointless deviation from the plan is actually part of the plan. I will enjoy seeing where this goes.
I mean, unless JJ kills them all. That would not be enjoyable.
Well, JJ might enjoy it. Or maybe not, he doesn’t seem like a COMPLETE monster. He seemed like he doesn’t want to kill unless he has run out of other methods of persuasion first. But he is able to do so, if necessary. So, not a complete monster, but with monster-ish tendencies.
…And now they have video linking him to Hurricane. Maybe not as solidly as one might like – Xan says it, not JJ, and JJ neither confirms nor denies – but the call isn’t over yet.
JJ thought he would trample these meddler’s efforts with ease, but at this rate he might be getting the boot from Hurricane for failing to remove Shannon and the others from underfoot.
Backup camera or the trigger for something?
I’m pretty sure it’s a smartphone connected to the police.
I’m not so sure it’s for the police. It would of spotted JJ at the same time Xan spotted him through the laptop. And the group could just as easily call the cops instead of set up an elaborate trigger for it.
I think it’s a trigger for something else.
“Would of”?
Want to guess whether he knows it should have been “would have” or just typoed it?
Gotta say, I’m not sure why they didn’t just call the police on this guy as soon as they set eyes on him walking in.

Maybe they did. Maybe they’re stalling him, because he’s too overconfident to abort while he has the chance.
I think they want him to say or do something else on-camera. Right now, both sides are trying to keep the other one talking, but I think the gamers are actually one step ahead there…our thug doesn’t yet realize they’re doing it to him.
Not “fanning out like smart targets”
Yes, JJ, keep misjudging the situation.
Fanning out is a defensive strategy.
Regrouping in one place and ambushing your foe is an offensive strategy.
They may still be your preys, but you have become theirs.
Excellent point.
Xan looks surprisingly calm and relaxed in the panel where Chrissie pops into frame. Even if our gamers are setting up an even deeper trap for JJ- trying to lure him in- I don’t see how revealing more about themselves helps them. JJ’s going after them anyway.
To keep him in place for another purpose, be that the cops or some other reason.
Went back briefly just to review.
So all this has been happening in less than 48- or even 24- hours?
http://guildedage.net/comic/chapter-41-page-9/
Bomb in a suitcase under the Bed?
Guessing the phone under the bed is sending to the cops, with a message of “oh God he’s in my house he’s in my house please send help right now!”
Remember, when SECONDS count, the police are only MINUTES away!
Too true..

Very pleased with yourself aren’t we? Yesssssss……
Trust the GM……er…….writer. They haven’t let us down yet.

Alternatively, just unplugging them has unpleasant enough side effects that he doesn’t want to risk the damage to Arkera. *shrugs*
Yeah man that’s definitely where this is all gonna go. The Five will be removed by the police and everything will anticlimax.
Nothing gets past this guy.

Yes, he did admit to being a tool and basically have a philosophy to it. Ship to Erfworld! :p
Yes let it be so. Parson could use another soldier.
No wonder JJ greases back his hair. A squeaky headed hammer is not a very effective assassin’s tool.
This hitman is incredibly bad at his job.
I’m calling it now…Berten gets pinned under the weight of the idiot ball he’s carrying.
I was going to say DAMMIT, CHRISSIE! But sometimes, the stupid and pointless deviation from the plan is actually part of the plan. I will enjoy seeing where this goes.

“Confirmed focus on his boot. I’m taking the shot.”
Heel feel the agony of de feet.
Oh nooo, what a terrible pun!
JJ thought he would trample these meddler’s efforts with ease, but at this rate he might be getting the boot from Hurricane for failing to remove Shannon and the others from underfoot.
Good material for Xan’s podcast.
And, JJ will need good material for his pod cast. If he’s still a bipod, at that point.
