It is not actually a suicide quest by design. She is doubting herself, feeling hopeless, and casting aspersions on her own character in a fit of self loathing. This is a thing people do.
Glad the band is getting back together. But I hope nothing happens to Claire & Hollister. I like their optimism, but if typical story tropes are applied, they have just signed their own death warrants.
My theory from a few pages ago (that these two are actually winter elves themselves) is still looking pretty plausible, and maybe even likely. How do they know all this stuff? Where to find them in the desert, knowing what somebody wants…
Those elves are going to die. They are too good for this world.
But, I think they’re ready for that possibility.
Caneghem isn’t ready, and killing them is going to affect him. He’s stoic, but still waters run deep.
What? WE did not ‘enlighten’ you.
But WE DID send you a sign.
A very special snowflake. It looked like a little cat playing with a ball of yarn.
…
What? WE like cats.
We tried to send Frigg an actual cat, but Fenrir… well… Fenrir called it an appetizer. He wanted Frigg to tell Odin that he’s ready for his main course.
We had to explain to Fenrir that your Frigg is not Odin’s Frigg. He was not amused.
Anyway, we just wanted you to know that we DID send you a sign, and that we’re not trying to freeze you out. … At least, not all of us.
I just want to take a second to say that it is really, really good to see Byron again. Gonna be really nice to see the band get back together…even though Bandit went solo and scores of their roadies were possessed, killed, and/or eaten.
I’m really looking forward to understanding what terrible price Gravedust paid to bring Byron back. Until we understand that, I cannot fully enjoy Bryon’s return.
As Bill E. would say … “here’s yer sign”.
Beat me to it! :)
“Lady Syr’Nj you traitor! We finally found you! You’re under arrest!!!!”
Looks like we’re getting the band back together….
*WAV pulls out his keytar* WOO!
Text is off-center in the first panel, last 2 text bubbles.
The Five return.
Good point. This’ll be the first time the Five have been together since Best died…
At which point they were also looking for some elven MacGuffin that could tell them the future. I have high hopes for their current mission!
Huh, yeah. Good points.
Awfully cruel of her to drag Frig and Wav along on her suicide quest.
It is not actually a suicide quest by design. She is doubting herself, feeling hopeless, and casting aspersions on her own character in a fit of self loathing. This is a thing people do.
She’s still responsible for them, but yes. She’s trying to win, as are they.

Last two word bubbles in panel one, the position of the words looks… a little off.
Maybe he’s speaking in a higher pitch?
I feel sorry for E’merl
Good to see Claire and Hollister were clued-in enough to supply them with appropriate gear before sending them to Winterland.
Bit of a problem: The page number at the bottom says “Page 1”. Also…. FINALLY! THEY’RE GONNA GET BACK TOGETHER!!!
As it turns out, our heroes are now crossing the space AND time barriers. How else could Best have so many alt characters?
Glad the band is getting back together. But I hope nothing happens to Claire & Hollister. I like their optimism, but if typical story tropes are applied, they have just signed their own death warrants.
Syr’Nj sealed their fates, when she gave them such dire warnings. Now, they’re just making sure we’ll cry for them when they die.
So these two elves are like the Mother in the matrix. Part of the system promoting its’ denizens.
“What’s-Drink…more…Ovaltine? Oh FFS!”
My theory from a few pages ago (that these two are actually winter elves themselves) is still looking pretty plausible, and maybe even likely. How do they know all this stuff? Where to find them in the desert, knowing what somebody wants…
I like that theory.
Of course, if that’s true, then Caneghem probably knows they are, and is keeping tabs on them. :(
Maybe they can teach Syr’Nj how to use an IVy portal, before they die. ;D
I love it when an existential crisis is solved by the coincidental timing of a magical portal dropping off missing party members! :D
Spin Off Series That Must Happen – The Magic Portal Elves Of Fashion!
Yes, they could be anyone’s Portals.
What’s important is they deliver Byron and Gravy still alive.
Then a giant mangled street sign for the crossing of ‘Yudon’ and ‘Goofed’ falls through the portal.
The names of two ancient winter elf cities, no doubt.
Oh Yudon, where the streets are paved with lol.
Those elves are going to die. They are too good for this world.
But, I think they’re ready for that possibility.
Caneghem isn’t ready, and killing them is going to affect him. He’s stoic, but still waters run deep.
These gods are either not subtle enough, or too subtle with their signs. Get your shit together, deities!
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.
Makes sense that the deities of Arkerra are hackers. ;)
What? WE did not ‘enlighten’ you.
But WE DID send you a sign.

[Byron and Gravedust fall from the sky]
B and G: “AAAAAAAAAAH”
[whump whump]
[Byron gets up]
Byron: “Dammit, the Omni’s still red!”
I just want to take a second to say that it is really, really good to see Byron again. Gonna be really nice to see the band get back together…even though Bandit went solo and scores of their roadies were possessed, killed, and/or eaten.
