Annotated 14-15
I feel like panel 1 is more significant in retrospect. Bandit has been clinging, however desperately, to the idea that her people’s talents would never be used for war. It’s not so much that she’s a pacifist herself, but even though Gnometown’s rejected her, she still believes in it. And there’s this sort of magical thinking that creeps in when you believe in an abstraction like this, the idea that Americans– sorry, gnomes– won’t permit horrible thing X to exist, even if one knows there are people in powerful positions who want it to be so and at least some support for them.
But the physical evidence doesn’t lie.
“Sundar we didn’t say ‘stop’ either.”
Cast in the name of God. Ye as guilty as sin!
An actual Big O reference in the wild! Never thought I’d see the day.
Taro Iwatani is no Rhodey.
You know, I have an mp3 of that song in my music folder, but I don’t think I ever actually listened to it. I imagined it was more frenetic, like the verses of “It’s the End of the World”. I.e., faster.
Why is Taro still holding the hammer while climbing the ladder? Even if Bandit were to catch up to him, he would be better off trying to kick her than trying to hit her with it.
Sometimes new tools need a little percussive maintenance,
Old tools too!
If he drops it, she can pick it up and throw it at him.
I may be mistaken, but thinking back I don’t think I ever saw the tanks get deployed by Gastonia (only the goblins) until taro’s giant one at the close. Is there an in story reason for why it wasn’t adopted by Gastonia and how the Savage races managed to get them?
When it comes to Bandits disillusionment with Gnometown, I’m a little surprised. I mean you’d think a worldly woman like herself would know you can’t go gnome again.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You may leave now. Unless you have another horrible pun.
