Annotated 22-24
It takes a lot of gravitas to look intimidating in boxer shorts.
Kind of amusing how the runes of light HR is manipulating look like one of Tony Stark’s displays, translated for Thor’s use.
Are you sure they’re not praying to you, big guy? Looks like the whims of the “All-Father” factor into their plans a lot, at least.
“I’ma spin my finger ’cause I’m about to press this button! Gonna press, gonna press, gonna press… YEAH DAWG”
Not sure if should tag Ashok, since he’s, y’know, not really there any more, but if you were looking for the page where HR blows up his body, here you go!
The fact that he’s about to do something that’s in the interest of a literal death cult should probably be setting off more alarm bells here, but unfortunately HR is too far gone already.
He still looks silly because he’s wearing boxer shorts with polka dots.
“GET IN THE GODDAMN PORTAL, ASHOK!”
I’m tempted to say Carol is the Rei to HR’s Gendo, except that Carol began having second thoughts about her loyalty much sooner than Rei did. And of course Carol, unlike Rei, was able to show a range of emotions right from the start.
Rei? Really? I’d’ve said Ritsuko.
I can’t see Gendo without thinking of this old thing, which is… over eight years old?!
I’m old.
Anyway, yer ma’s a slag.
OMFGROTFLMAO
~huff huff~
I had not seen that before now. Wow. That was like Powerthirst, Eva edition. Excellent.
It’s interesting that the cult’s magic does apparently work to influence HR. Of course, the only person who has all the pieces to notice “HR was on the brink of stepping back and now he’s back to 100% focused on becoming a god” is HR himself, whose ego won’t allow him to consider the possibility.
I dunno. I’ll confess that I wondered if something possessed him or if he just …broke all the way on the previous page, because the stuff he does after this point feels like there’s no….him there anymore, just the “All-Father.”
On the other hand, this whole experiment with the Five presumably started because of his desire to become one with the universe and become a true God to everything. And, just because we don’t see him crying into his pillow at night or questioning his decisions after this point, doesn’t mean he isn’t having various crises of faith later on. So, it could just be one of many days where he briefly considers walking away from everything, before sobering up and getting back to his life’s work.
Granted, it’s much less likely, but…. I dunno. At this point, I kind of take a middle stance. I don’t think he was ever going to seriously walk away from trying to become a god, but I also think he …lost something here. There were occasional hints of compassion before this point, times when you could believe that all of this was about an experiment in selling high end gamers a better experience that went wrong and he’s simply trying to fix it, on both moral and legal grounds. After this point, it was all about him becoming a god, even if it wasn’t necessarily obvious to us at the time.
