Annotated 23-16
It’s like Colonnus has been waiting for the dinner bell.
Interesting that Tamara, who does not rely on sight, is as fooled by E-Merl’s illusion as anyone else would be. We’d already established in Chapter 13 that the sound of his voice comes from his illusion-self, not his flesh-and-blood casting self. Very possibly, other sensory input like smell or the sound of footfalls comes from it as well.
I’m a little torn about E-Merl here; he still seems a bit down, but he’s pushing aside some of his depression because it’s time to get on with the business of fighting. I can respect him for that, but I still think it’s too soon for the sake of his mini-arc.
‘Only two arms between them? That’s a relief.’
“A weapon to surpass iron cogs!”
Also wow, that Magic The Gathering card looks like a *brutal* ambush for just 2 mana. I expect it leads to a bluffing game once the enemy knows of its potential existence. They are much crazier cards of course, but still.
Yeah, wow. I don’t recognize the set, it’s from after I stopped. Not only is it an ambush, it also lends power to any on-tap creature abilities AS WELL as being a cantrip? So there’s little cost of including it in a deck if you’re not constantly starved for mana. Feels like it speaks to the general power of what was coming out at the time.
In my experience when things become intense, your depression takes a break. I’ve been sunk deep in my own misery, and had a similar emergency (while walking along, two men suddenly and unexpectedly erupted into a violent confrontation with each other. I being young and foolish interceded. It all worked out, but it was quite dangerous for a hot minute.) and my brain kicked my problems down the curb for later. This actually became an unhealthy coping mechanism for a time (can’t feel terrible if I’m busy helping crazy people not murder each other). So from my perspective, it would feel unnatural and cartoonish for him to still be all grey word balloon, and depressed when the action is starting. Besides he’s being pretty sassy, that rings true for someone who’s got issues they’d rather be wallowing in.
Is it just me, or does one of the rallying fightopians have a Best-style axe on her s back?
Clearly, that’s Best’s alt!
