Annotated 26-19
According to Phil, no one really calls it “the syph” any more; let me know if you have an opinion on that one.
Naturally, Scipio has a skull like a fireplug: this isn’t the first time in his life he’s used that fact to win a fight.
I was actually a little bit squeamish when the art came in and it was time to show Frigg projectile-vomiting on panel. We could have reined ourselves in a bit and focused on the other sisters’ horrified reactions over a BLAAARGH sound effect, similar to the way we mostly restrained ourselves from showing actual sex as often as the moments right before and after. But the genteel approach didn’t really seem to suit her, and it’s best to show your characters on their own terms.
Fireplug?
Do you mean fire hydrant?
This is one of those colloquialisms I missed out on by living on the West Coast for so long, isn’t it…
“Fireplug” predates “fire hydrant” by the better part of a century.
I’d heard the term fireplug before, but didn’t know what it meant. This site explains that water mains used to be made of wood, and fire fighters had to actually chop them open to attach their hoses. The fire plug was what they used to seal the hole afterwards.
It still makes sense without looking it up, if you consider the water pressure the hydrant covers, but I will admit to not knowing the history of the term. Good on ya.
And yeah, if someone doesn’t know something, even odds that it’s old knowledge as they live under a rock, but something that old? In de facto English-speaking countries? In this hemisphere? In this decade?
Benefit of the doubt goes to it being too old.
Two things.
Blair, if you’re gonna garrotte someone, use wire or something else thin and strong. A normal rope doesn’t focus the energy enough.
John – goat reaction in panel 2? Priceless.
Took me a bit to figure out there was actually a goat in the panel, and you weren’t calling John/the panel, the GOAT.
I think that’s not a goat but one of the mounts which Frigg and Rachel were on when they rode into this situation
Rope is fine if your technique is right.
Hers is very much not right. Sloppy sloppy.
Frigg ends up doing this a lot, IIRC…
I like “The Syph” better, but have never heard anyone use that. The vomit panel is the right level of intensity for Frigg.
