Annotated 36-10
You sure that last line isn’t “Krss kwa hecta,” Homon? Same basic pronunciation, just a little less elided. Common mistake. Maybe he’s just getting slangy with it, it probably still works, no matter what the universe thinks about the spelling of “alright.”
Truer words, alt text. Though I’m also amused at the thought of Homon channeling HR’s game-dev background and geeking out about Cyberia’s different classes of monsters and decision-tree architecture.
C’mon, Bro Tom, you yourself predicted you weren’t going to understand all this, no point getting pissy about it now.
(Tags will continue to include Byron even when “Byron’s corpse” would be more appropriate; that’s, uh, a useful precedent for the rest of the chapter)
Honestly totally forgot it was Byron’s death that opened the portal, just remember Tom was being a sadistic dick.
I mean, most cultures revere the body as still holding some essence of the departed. Though like my philosophy teacher put it: “If we ever get stranded on an island, I die and you have nothing else to eat, you can just eat her body. She has no need nor ties for it at that point.”
Granted, she was a bit of a looker, so I might have taken my chances with starvation, but…
Point being, it IS still kinda Byron… Even if little dead at the moment.
Alsoalso. In technical terms, is there actually a realm for the Countless? Sure the realms themselves are somewhat autonomous, but are they tp a point where they can create more realms or would they be need coded in?
And yes, he says “again”, but that could have been just event spawned in the main realm, causing stuff to happen, without separate realm existing. Not that Tom could tell the difference.
I don’t think there needs to be a realm for the Countless. They might as well not exist — the first time Brother Tom opened a portal, it was also going to Cyberia, and the procedure had also been set up by HR. So Tom would believe he’s doing whatever spiritual stuff he thinks he’s doing but actually it’s just moving a monster from one gameworld to another, so HR can create something for the Five to chew on, and possibly as a test for HR to make sure he can move between them at will, in order to chase down Best/WAV (who ends up crossing over by accident), and to make sure he can rule both worlds after entering his tank.
Both berserker spirits and corruptor beasts, come from Cyberia. How the hell are Cyberians able to survive in their own world when those things are native to it?
Invasive species. In Arkera they are dangerous and difficult to stop because they lack any defenses against them, but in Cyberia they almost certainly do have defenses against them
Klahtu verata ….neck tie?
Prolly close enough, right?

In the present case, I’m sure it makes a subtle-to-outsiders yet relevant difference whether you contract “Krss” and “kwa”, and HR seems to be the type to give this kind of detail due attention.
“Not like from where I come from” — One of the “from”s is too many, and even then it sounds a bit weird coming from HR.
HR/Homon is using Google Translate for English to Arkerran
Makes complete sense now :)
