The only things Chrissie’s accomplished as this scene begins were to make it a little hot for JJ as he left and to make sure that at least Kaye’s cat would to animal services and get a decent chance at a new owner. (Having picked up two cats from a departed individual, I care about this detail more than I used to!)
There’s something slightly rougher about the art style John’s employing in panel 3 that works really well. Shanna looks like a goddamn demolished building site. She’s gutted.
A while back, one of you readers mentioned that as E-Merl’s heroism receded for a while, some kind of conservation of energy seemed to be at work, because it was at the same time that Daniel’s was coming to the fore.
