Annotated 41-20
I felt like the last double-sized page was a little mis-paced, but I have no such issues with this one…or the next one, coming up next. They strike me as good examples of “as long as it needs to be” in practice.
And John, under Flo’s direction, gives it just the right degree of sentiment. Just look at those teary eyes on Gravedust, panel 5! They’re beautiful!
More foreshadowing: Gravedust now lays his hand on the “berserker half” of Byron, even though past experience might’ve told him that was a bad idea. But that half is now acting more in concert with Byron, shedding a tear that must’ve come from Byron’s heart. I’d talk more about what this foreshadows, but it’s coming up…next!
Nowhere is safe from those pesky, onion-chopping ninjas.
I had forgottenthis section of the story a little, so it’s been a genuine pleasure to read it all again.
I did not catch the meaning of Gravy’s last sentence when I read this the first time, and might have missed it again if it weren’t for the reminder in the commentary, some pages ago, that Gravedust, too, has just made a very far-reaching decision, is in the process of ending a very important and long chapter in his life.
