Annotated 43-7
FB: “Today’s GUILDED AGE is like if Wes Craven wrote a knock-knock joke.”
In line with the verdict that our heroes are going to give on JJ in a few more pages, I like to think he’s spending panel 5 pondering the furnishings and looking for clues but not really coming up with anything useful. If you asked him, he’d probably make up some bullshit about how the impressions on the chair and the position of the seats showed there’d been five people here recently, but that’d all be pretense. He’s good enough at what he does to track people down efficiently, but he’s not some oversized Sherlock Holmes.
I love all the lived-in detail that John infuses these pages with. The clock, the bend of the chair, the wood grain of the floor, the stucco of the ceiling. It’s choice.
Waltrip strikes me as the kind of person that start looking around his house when making a scene or when having lunch he sees something and goes “wait I can add that to what I was drawing earlier” and goes edit.
Had you ever seen a door stopper drawn on a comic? Me neither until Xan’s house.
But really, aren’t ALL chairs ass-chairs?
Bravo!
