This is about as close as Sundar will get to a “Savages… they’re just like us!” epiphany. He’ll still express a little prejudice even after this interstitial story is done. But I think the sort of gradual erosion in his beliefs we see is a more frequent phenomenon than the 180-degree change in personality in other “racists redeemed” stories.

Sundar’s got a good heart, so we (or I at least) forgive him his bad beliefs and enjoy seeing him start to grow out of them. It’s gonna be a process. But the fact that he ends the series on a team with an avian… one he himself recruited to that team… is not insignificant.

And the complicated rituals of male friendship, recognizable across multiple cultures, are usually good for a chuckle.
