When I first saw the boots in the comic, I thought they were letters! I read them as saying “F U!”
If they can have a bear crapping on a flag, Brag’s boots can spell whatever they want :P

At least she might be able to see to the end of her nose now that it’s smashed flush with the rest of her face.
Pretty sure she saw the shield…it’s the force field that suddenly formed several inches in front of it that got her by surprise.
Looking the way she’s accordioned way more than the visible thickness of the glowy barriershit, maybe there was a little oversight on her calculations.
And another look at the glowy lines, looks like she was shield bashed in a rat-trap-like motion. She still chose to charge face-first at the goddamn shield of something so fierce you can taste it.
The way she’s failing so hard is so amusing for me that it makes up for every Zattoichi wannabe I’ve ever seen.

I think I might re-read the whole thing, I guess I forgot a few fact keys.
Frigg totally figured the glowy hammershit mechanics, or she’s just empathizing (is that even a word?) with Emo-rl hard enough to activate those and make Braggadocio have flashbacks about cliffhangers and yodeling?
I think she has indeed figured out the basic glowy hammershit mechanics well. But it’s also cool to see that even Frigg can have a little empathy for “E-girl”; she was (still is?) pretty shaken up about being friendzoned by Scipio. She’s actually a tiny bit sweet underneath that mountain of crassness and blatant indifference.
She did, thanks to Rachel’s unwanted help.
Also, E-Mo got his slamwich. Doesn’t seems to enjoy it that much, though.
At least it doesn’t make him useless in a fight.

This reminds me of the old time two page melee scenes that we occasionally used to see in X-men or Teen Titan comix from the 80’s. Just one huge panel spanning both pages, with all *&^% breaking loose.

Unless they were on the centre pages, otherwise they never lined up properly (it’s almost like they deliberately missaligned the 2 pages to piss off readers… nah, they wouldn’t do that, right?)
The friendzone is bullshit, but it makes sense that Frigg would use a term like that. Also, heartwarming.

It’s like some deadly re-imagining of tennis! We might have to call an interference foul on E-Merl, though.
Wow… I just got that E-Merl saved Gravy in Panel 3.
Was wondering what caused the arrow to explode (thought at first it was Gravy’s return shot hitting Bunny-boy’s arrow head-on)
Looks like Bunny-boy got a shock when his arrow exploded (look at his face, his mouth is open)
I think I figured the detail that was bothering me before…
So, the buck-toothed hobbit fired an arrow at Gravy. A battered (physically and emotionaly on varying degrees) E-Morl had the reflexes to firebolt a mid-air arrow accurately after being in ground zero of a glowy hammershit impact.
Braggadocio is fast enough to surprise this guy.
More and more Braggadocio is getting close to the modern Volstagg. He got hit with enough force to knock him off his boots. I think Mythbusters demonstrated how much force it takes to do so once. Hell, any force hard enough to do a home run hit at someone of his size would easily destroy most stone golems.
No matter how badly hurt Bragg is now, just surviving it is a wondrous feat.
And probably all they did was to make the juggernaut angry. Angry, hungry and with two tickets to the gun show.
At least, once all the Bragadoccio amazement fades off, +1 respect to E-Morl (from Gravy, the only one who seems to keep track) for reducing the total amount of arrows to his face by one… unless this is a “magic missile-like” (read: Auto-aim) spell. Singed eyebrows for nothing, then.
I didn’t realize it was Merl who “blew up” the arrow. I kept looking at it and wondering what happened. I thought it was an explosive arrow or something but it didn’t seem to make sense. Some sort of visual cue would’ve helped, just a few lines from Merl’s hand or something.
As for the rest, it’s just comicy over-the-top-ness though I’m not a big fan of how overpowered Rachel and Frigg are. They make both their enemies and their allies seem inconsequential. I do realize their powers are important for the story.
Regarding the first half: As I had the same problem (and looked into the comments for getting a clue – which worked, see above) I obviously didn’t get it myself at first, but there is a visual cue, namely the posture of E-Merl’s Hand in the third panel. Especially in combination with him holding the fireball/magic missile/whatever in the second panel.
True about Merl’s posture but it’s very out of the way and I simply didn’t register it. I didn’t even realize the hobbit was trying to fire at GD. One moment he’s dodging GD’s arrow, the next there’s an explosion. Yeah, he’s kinda notching an arrow while dodging but again, it escapes casual observation.
No big deal but a number of factors makes the scene difficult to “read”, did for me at least.
It wasn’t obvious to me at first glance, but after a second look I thought the action sequence is quite clear to me given Merl’s expression and posture cues in panels 2-4. As for the second part of what you say, I quite agree. All this ka-smitery has loads of possibility to throw the story out of balance; trivialize everyone besides Rachel and Frigg. Also, I find it a bit jarring that Gravedust hasn’t made any analysis of these new powers in his journal; I thought everyone would be a little more surprised over this power that allows Frigg to destroy armoured war machines in a single blow.
Last panel: Where’s the Bragg-sized hole in the trees?
Umm, probably that gap the rest of the Fightopiates are racing through?
This brings forth the memory of the classic all-out brawls of comic history… and makes me laugh out loud whenever I read it through :D
Yeah, and one of the best parts is spending hours perusing the page(s) attempting to work out what is going on, and always finding some new little detail (like Tamara landing in the trees in the last panel :D)
Have we determined what sort of smiting Frigg’s patron wolf of badassery actually grants her? Smite Chumps? Smite Sissies? Smite People-Not-As-Awesome-As-I-Am? Inquiring Paladins, Blackguards, and Hellknights want to know.
