I don’t think they’re official ‘acts,’ but what Joe is referring to definitely marked a major shift in the story. Act 1 would have ended after our heroes fought in the Death Pits.
It’s visually pretty cool that you can see exactly one eye in the entire page, starting the blind theme with a blind charge in the first panel. Really, the whole page focuses on that strain in that one eye.
Cultists in front of them; cultists behind them
Cultists to overwhelm them all – and in the darkness, blind them
In this final showdown, where even alt-text can die
Hey, they´re cheating ! Cultists should be xp on legs, not ink-casting fourth-wall-superheroes !
Also: poor Skipio. I hope he did not swallow the thing by accident^^
I just noticed something. Is Rabbit wielding a Bowspear? That is utility right there. Pity it makes little difference
Just goes to show you got to bring at least one counter magic caster with you when going after magic plinkers. I know Astoria and Tobias have some magic, but it seems more combat than counter from what I’ve seen I think.
These are some dark times for our heroes. I wonder how they’ll get out of this sticky situation?
I’d make a pun here, but I’m pulling up a black.
Indeed, dark times a-head. The air is so tense, you couldn’t cut it with an axe, or even two axes.
Yeah, we definitely need to lighten things up here
I wouldn’t worry. Charging blindly is kind of a berserker’s speciality after all.
Brothers Tom and Homon are throwing some serious shade there.
……

( •_•)~⌐■-■
(⌐■_■)
Deal with it.
Am I wrong? Or is even the tooltip… “darkened?”
I was just about to ask if the alt text wasn’t working for me or if it just wasn’t there this time.
I think it’s the later. And to me, that creepy and ominous.
‘ ‘
THIS IS BAD. The alt text is overcome by the darkness.
Welp. Time to attack the darkness…
I already used up all my first level spells today, so no more Magic Missiles until I rest.
So now there are ogres, okay?
But why? They believe in a thing called LOOOOOOOOVE!
Hey, I know this one! I know what happens next:
Uhm, that is…
Venom. Venom is what happens.
Guh. I shouldn’t comment on stuff at 6 am. Never ends well, ‘specially when there’s no edit button.
I don’t know, I enjoyed the slight edit exchange thread. But it’s like.. super late here too.
The most ominous thing about this page is the absence of title text.
Was just about to mention that.
I really hope it’s on purpose this time. I don’t think any alt text would be ass effective for this page as the lack of one.
It would indeed have to be a pretty efficacious posterior to match the stygian yet bottomless dread of that lack of text. Definitely a BUMmer.
Completely agree. I absolutely love the blank tooltip.
First thought: “Oh my god, this strip is set up the same as the end of Act 1.”
Second thought: “OH MY GOD, THERE’S NO ALT TEXT.”
Oh there is alt text in the code, it is alt=” “
What is Act 1? I didn’t know the comic is separated into acts.
I don’t think they’re official ‘acts,’ but what Joe is referring to definitely marked a major shift in the story. Act 1 would have ended after our heroes fought in the Death Pits.
The what?? Death pits??? When the heck was that??
Harky’s arena, back when Byron killed everyone
The end of Chapter 8. Link’s in my name.
It’s visually pretty cool that you can see exactly one eye in the entire page, starting the blind theme with a blind charge in the first panel. Really, the whole page focuses on that strain in that one eye.
Damn, that’s some sweet art you got there.
Reminds me of the flavor text on this MTG card: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=35168
This may be our heroes darkest hour…
Looks like they’ll have to eat their way out of this one. Good thing Brag’s here.
We all know that salted licorice tastes like evil. Maybe the reverse holds true?
The black licorice tastes like pure evil to me. That’s why I prefer the red licorice; It red tastes more like fury, more like, um…er…berzerking?
There will always be a light in the darkness, as long as that stuff didn’t put out Skipios’ cigar.
Yea it did, snuffed the cigar right out!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS RILLY & TREWLY BAD.
Cultists in front of them; cultists behind them
Cultists to overwhelm them all – and in the darkness, blind them
In this final showdown, where even alt-text can die
All hail Cthhulhu!
Hey, they´re cheating ! Cultists should be xp on legs, not ink-casting fourth-wall-superheroes !
Also: poor Skipio. I hope he did not swallow the thing by accident^^
Tomorrow they’ll be spraying feathers… :P
Slime of Infinite Darkness
Quick! Someone cast Magic Missile!
Sadly, you are eaten by a gnue.
What’s a Gnue? (Nuttin’, what’s-a Gnue with you?)
I do believe you mean ‘grue’.
Wait a second…
Panel #2, second “cultist” from the right; I KNOW that mustache from somewhere…
Now you notice?
4th panel. That is the face of someone who is about to eff shite up.
He is pissed. he will never get that evil stain out of his uniform.
I have to ask, but will that spell make them all berserkers? I find a berserk Braggadocio more terrifying than Byron going berserk again.
“And then the MAGICAL PLOT POWERS of the cultists take you over and knock you out!”
“Okay, I roll for magic resistance an-”
“You fail.”
“I cast ‘Advanced Teleport’ and-”
“They block your magic and you fail.”
“… I use an item I obtained that is specifically made to avoid bullshit railroading like this.”
“… It explodes, mortally wounding your character and losing you an arm.”
“… You’re a dick GM, Steve.”
so if this is like Chapter 7 but 20 fold- oh… oh dear
I just noticed something. Is Rabbit wielding a Bowspear? That is utility right there. Pity it makes little difference

Has no one mentioned yet that the third cultist in the second panel has the H.R. mustache?
Please say you’re joking.
So, is this a case of failing to follow Rule 1?
“Don’t talk about Fight Club.” ?
I thought it was “Never get involved in a land war in Asia.”
Never act incautiously when confronting an old, bald, unarmed man – especially if he’s smiling.
Dang, I had the right universe, but the wrong man… I was thinking of the one with the really impressive smile.
This guy?

Huh, isn’t that third cultist from the left in the second panel HR’s homunculus?
Yep, and he was in the previous comic as well.
