Yes, and I think this one is here to prepare us better to what will happen when the two geeks that entered in the building will reach this room, maybe make we notice better some wrong things.
Whoa, wait. This is sepia. Dude got yellow hat. Center woman green amulet and Frigg lookalike has blue wristbands. HR standing in the background looking smug with his signature purple tie.Other two candidates decked out all in Sepia colored clothes no color. Has the voodoo allready started for the three even before they get in the tube? Nice visuals Messuers Walrip.
Considering there’s *several* different shades of brown in that picture, I don’t see anything about the particular shade of his scarf that makes it stand out from all the rest. That said, brown *is* Gravedust’s signature color, and I’ve no doubt the scarf is meant to reflect that.
P.S. When I read “tuber” my first thought was “Gravedust is a potato?” (Well, he’s certainly shaped like one.)
Yeah, but his scarf is a different tone, just not a different shade. To me, it looks a smidge bit warmer (think dark sand instead of dirt) than the rest of the sepia, but I’m not sure if that’s just my screen or not. :)
I”m not sure if “smug” is how I’d describe the expression on HR’s face. To me he looks vaguely put out, like he’s offended at the suggestion that he copied his ideas from a movie. (Or maybe at being compared to evil robots.)
Of course, it *is* hard to gauge a person’s expression when you can’t see their eyes *or* their mouth.
I get the feeling the blatant and notable colors are important. Kind of like how every time a sci-fi TV show has the characters go into a VR world, something serves as an anchor to allow them to escape back out of it.
The potatoes have always had key colours. Their tubes are in those colours, and their earlier pre-tubing flashbacks had the same coloured items. (And Gravy’s scarf was easier to discern as ‘different’, because he was shown in silhouette other than the scarf.)
Yeah, we don’t. The earlier pre-tube flashbacks were in the form of interviews where their identities are obscured. (Best attempts to promote his act, but the name gets bleeped. None of the others even try to break the ‘anonymous’ rule.) And Xan wasn’t able to find their Sepia identities.
H.R. referred to Sepia-Byron as “Eric” once, and… I don’t remember who, but someone was on the phone with Sepia-Frigg’s mother, whose last name was “Ackerton” (Frigg’s is “Akerfeldt”).
Then: These tubes are for you. They’re … YOUTUBES.
Now: We regret to inform you that your youtubes account has been demonetized. You may keep your tube, but we will not be responsible for continued nutrition, fresh tube water or elimination; and all breathing must be accomplished between the hours of 0900 and 1730 daily. Thank you for being a loyal user. Good day.
What the point of a virtual reality experience if you don’t use tubes? What sort of third rate operation do you think we are running here? Now, let me just boot up this Atari to run the programming.
All of them look pretty similar to their characters. Not sure if that was a conscious decision or just a consequence of the tube-voodoo. The toodoo. And the characters align closely to their sepia-world personalities (which is understandable, since they’re not actually roleplaying, as such).
Um… that would not be my response. And I’m having trouble believing that She Who Will Be Syrn’j was ever that naive. Believing in people’s good intentions is one thing; saying SO COOL to getting tubed is another.
I agree with you, but if my memory is not mistaken I think that they were told that they would only “test” the setup, pretty much the idea would be of using a really, REALLY intricate sort of VR device and the plugging off, the poor bastards probably never knew they would become lava lamps for who knows how long they’ve been there.
Heh. I’d probably already be in the tube saying “Sweet! Now where is the start button? Which colors do I get to choose from? And why is everyone looking at me like that?”
yesss. Sepia flashbak.
Yes, and I think this one is here to prepare us better to what will happen when the two geeks that entered in the building will reach this room, maybe make we notice better some wrong things.
It’s all fun and tubes until…
…things go balls up?
You start chopping up valued employees to make magical digital hormuncli.
… it’s a series of tubes. Then it’s just tubes, all the way down.
“Byron” has a red ring, GD is the only tuber who seems colorless. Then again his color would be sandy/brownish anyway.
Look closer at his scarf. It’s a different shade of brown than the rest of the panel. It’s subtle, but it’s there if you look for it a little bit.
Considering there’s *several* different shades of brown in that picture, I don’t see anything about the particular shade of his scarf that makes it stand out from all the rest. That said, brown *is* Gravedust’s signature color, and I’ve no doubt the scarf is meant to reflect that.

Yeah, the scarf is a brighter shade of brown than any other. The rest of sepia world’s browns have more of a tint to them than the scarf does.
I think it might be the scarf? It seems a different shade of sepia than the rest of the frame, but it’s a bit tough to distinguish.
TBH, I noticed the scarf before I noticed the red ring…Mainly because the ring is so much smaller than the other colored objects.
It’s not that he’s colourless, it’s just that everything he owns is actually sepia-coloured.
OTOH, his expression in the second panel *definitely* looks smug.
(And Gravy’s scarf was easier to discern as ‘different’, because he was shown in silhouette other than the scarf.)
the color voodoo (and gravedusts brown scarf) was already there in the shadowy silhouette interviews much earlier
Interesting choice of tags. I would have expected their Sepia-World names.
I don’t think we have their Sepia-World names.

Other than that, I don’t think we do.
I was thinking that the writers could have chosen now to reveal their names, along with their faces.
Then: These tubes are for you. They’re … YOUTUBES.
Now: We regret to inform you that your youtubes account has been demonetized. “Youtubes” LOL. Does that mean their virtual lives are interrupted by ads at random intervals?
Hell, even out physical “real” lives are interrupted by ads at random intervals.
With half the ads being “Would you like to sign up for our ad free service?”
*sigh* All to true…All to true.
Nah, HR installed adblock beforehand.
Why would tubes be epic? Tubes have usually negative context in sci-fi that usually scream ‘Mad science, get out!”
It’s all negated by a tube saving Luke Skywalker’s life.
…And then re-enforced again by places like Gnosis College: http://eroticmadscience.com/tales-of-gnosis-college-comix/volume-01-number-01/
Is it just me or do Best and Byron look remarkably like each other?
great avatar/comment pair, BTW
I know right?
I like the idea of them being relatives.
… That would actually make so much sense.
It would!
If this is confirmed I should at least get a cookie for the insight, just saying
Make sure that you have cookies enabled, otherwise it won’t work.
What the point of a virtual reality experience if you don’t use tubes? What sort of third rate operation do you think we are running here? Now, let me just boot up this Atari to run the programming.
Pfft, digitization via industry laser or bust.
And now let me check my grimoire; monkey hand check, eye of newt check, mandrake rook check…
I like “Gravedust”‘s DragonCon shirt…
ALESTORM!!!
Nice!
I knew I related most to Byron for a reason!
I would’ve expected Amon Amarth or something angrier honestly
As if he only has the one band t-shirt.
I headcanon Best’s Sepia World name as Peter Blessed because PROPHECIES.
And it would be amazing if it was.
I like that Frigg, in looks and in attitude, is largely the same! A Frigg is a Frigg is a Frigg.
All of them look pretty similar to their characters. Not sure if that was a conscious decision or just a consequence of the tube-voodoo. The toodoo. And the characters align closely to their sepia-world personalities (which is understandable, since they’re not actually roleplaying, as such).
Of course Byron loves Alestorm. I approve.
I think this means HR is a Star Sapphire.
Stupid sexy HR :/
…and with our powers combined, we call upon… RAINBOW FUKKIN’ BRITE!!!
And so it begins…
…we have come full circle.
Boo for tagging them with their Arkerran counterparts’ names. :P
What if those are their Sepia names?
We at least know that Sepia-Byron is Eric.
“It’s like the Matrix. SO COOL!”
Seeing how HR tried to get them out of the game but failed, HR didn’t count on them being lava lamps for so long either.
Heh. I’d probably already be in the tube saying “Sweet! Now where is the start button? Which colors do I get to choose from? And why is everyone looking at me like that?”
They pretty much all think it’s cool, otherwise they wouldn’t have come.
oh man, this is exactly what Phil told me about at Gencon a few years ago. Its really at the end…wow….
It wouldn’t be an internet without tubes!
I was expecting one of you regular commenters to say “tubular”.
Man I can’t wait for the twist where the players are not the obvious body match to characters.
