I do appreciate that he can instantly see how Being God, in at least an in-game sense, is totally feasible, even if he doesn’t say it very well.
As long as Carol doesn’t start spouting off about magic in reality, this all looks very reasonable. “I’m here keeping the bodies alive, the boss was supposed to use god-mode to get them out of their tubes, and then retire as the preeminent deity of his own made up universe. But I think being God has gone to his head, and nothing is going as planned.” Ass covered, perfect deniability – HR hired the gunman, Carol just inherited him when HR went on walkabout, and was trying to play out the messed up hand she got as best she could while her boss got it together, saved the 5 originals, so she could quietly shut it all down and leave him to his retirement.
yup. but, even if they hack together an anti-HR character to insert, somehow, who are you sticking in there? Shanna is kind of the obvious choice, but knowing Shanna as well as any Faan does, this is the last thing “sane” Shanna would want to do. especially armed with anti-god-like powers.
Want to do? Maybe. But this version of Shanna ramps crusading reporter up to 11 and breaks off the knob. And all versions kind of have a need to snark it up. I could see her going in just to tell HR off, and getting conflated with Graiya.
As was shown with the other side characters players can actually play Kingdoms of Arkerra without being plugged into VR, so the jury’s still out on that.
As much as I would LOVE this, I’m not sure I see it happening. It’ll probs be one of the 3 currently in the room. I see it as Carol entering to try to talk HR down and failing, so then Xan steps in to try instead because he’s actually played the game as opposed to Shanna, and has to kicks HR’s butt instead of talk it down.
Okay so I hope he’s livestreaming all this and not recording to upload later. Livestream can’t be contained, the proof gets out and doesn’t require them safely leaving for the cops to see it and come running.
Why Buddhists specifically? I just find it odd that Shanna chose that particular example.
Daedalus’s “religion,” such as it is, is hardly a new one though. If you subscribe to the notion of a Platonic reality, then it makes a kind of sense that being able to go there equates to enlightenment.
They might think they have the goods, but if Carol tells them that if they’re unplugged their minds will be gone that will probably buy some time.
He’s right; humanity has decimal points and fractional values, and usually, what? Twenty digits to keep track of per person?

That almost works but they already traced the gunman back to Carol.
True, but it’s at least spinnable in a court of law.
There’s an empty tube, presumably for Carol, that could be used to go in-game to confront HR “in person”.

Good way to get your Twitch account taken down, Xan.
Oh, Hey, I’m the coolest version of the Hulk Ever!
h’yes SMASH!
Forget God Mode, this is Mod Mode!
Even mods have their limits…Which are set by the Administrator. Forget Mod Mode, Admin Mode is the way to go.
Did someone call for Developer Mode?
Which would be what HR is using as a God Mode.
I’d even go as far as saying that he is using the Source Mode.
The Source is Strong on this one.
Holy, Carol is so going in there and bringing her character back in God-Mode :D
There’s still one tube left…YOURtube.
Oh, I’m SO smart.
With the purple colour, I find myself repeatedly wondering whether H.R. isn’t both Bandit Keynes and Brother Homon, (aka Eye-Am) at the same time.
Maybe some sort of ‘fix what I screwed up’ thing.
She was around long before him entering the game, so. Can’t be, right?
As was shown with the other side characters players can actually play Kingdoms of Arkerra without being plugged into VR, so the jury’s still out on that.
Taste the rainbow!
See the seventh tube that’s unoccupied? Calling it now, Xan is going to enter Kingdoms as a new god.
And subsequently, will turn to the dark side.
I think “Brother Homon” fits rather well on the Dark Side…He’d already crossed that line before he entered the game.
Guess I will throw my hat on the ring and say Rachel’s player will claim the 7th tube and we will see the triumphant return of Rachel in all her glory

Just noticed there’s another empty tube.

Good thinking. But is there wi-fi way down in that sub-basement?
Xan is…remarkably coolheaded about this scenario.
Interesting.
Given he was coolheaded with a knife through his hand escaping his would-be killer, this is relatively small potatoes by comparison.
Xan can give Gravedust points for coolness.
Didn’t HR cut his hand off? Am I remembering poorly?
HR just bled himself a bit. It was the arm of the employee he murdered (Ferris?) that he cut off.
Why Buddhists specifically? I just find it odd that Shanna chose that particular example.
