Bandit.
Ok. But me? I say it was Bandit.
Bandit
Bandit. Syr did her so wrong, and has never apologized. Bandit and E-Merl are the most under- and un-appreciated members of the guildies.
^ Bandit gets my vote
I knew these two would go up against each other.
And BANDIT!
“You swept the streets in gnometown
I’m trailblazing whole new fields
“field leader, you leave battlefields
in flames and broken shields”
Clearly the best stanza, but Syr’nj just does not let up, while Bandit wastes time of defense and rationalization.
Ironically, the support class is a better attacker. SYR’NJ.
Hmmm. I’ll give it to Syr’Nj.
Am wondering who will be the final rap-battlers. Kinda like to see HR—it doesn’t seem appropriate to leave HR completely out of this—but who would his opponent be? Tectonicus? One or more of the meme-gods? The whole Guild crew?
Perhaps HR vrs Carol? Or how about Shanna vrs Carol!
HR v Carol fo sho’!
Both totally lame. No winner.
Syr’Nj.
Syr’nj.
All hail queen Bandit !
They both had good points. The problem I ultimately have with bandit’s argument is a bit shallower. Syr’nj may never have trusted her with the super secret ‘we died and came back’ stuff but ultimately she left a lot in the gnomes hands. It always seemed like Bandit was the one who just didn’t really want to be apart of the group. More over, we as readers know what happened to Byron was not his fault, nor the fault of faulty medicine nor anyone but HR’s fault. Knowing that, knowing that Byron was as much a victim as anyone else, and that Bandit was so callous, even happy, about his death kind of irks me the wrong way.
So I’d vote Syr’nj.
Yes, this.
Bandit could have argued that killing him was necessary, as she does in this song…but she didn’t. She gloated like she’d just killed Brother Tom.
So, Syr’nj gets my nod.
Well, I don’t think it was exactly like that. Bandit basically never had faith in Syr’nj’s potion, and pretty much expected Byron’s curse would become a fatal liability if he was allowed to continue in the group. Remember that it was Byron in Berzerker mode who chopped off Bandit’s arms and killed everybody during that first fight with Harky.
So Bandit’s satisfaction at taking Byron out is about the same one would feel by disarming a ticking time-bomb that nobody else believed was there.
In Bandit’s mind, she did “what needed to be done” and made the necessary choice that Syr’ng herself should have made but failed to do. Byron was too much of a risk to trust on the battlefield.
So Bandit stands by her actions, and Syr’ng still refuses to objectively assess the situation (which she was not present to witness), and blames Bandit for “murdering” Byron, twisting Bandit’s obvious distrust of Byron (after he murdered her in berzerker mode) into being some kind of hatred which served as the motive to her “crime”.
Bandit’s only real “crime” is being sassy.
You make a case that Bandit planned to kill Byron long before I think she did, hid that intention, and had no respect for the leader of the group she joined. Then, having made a case against Bandit which, if accurate, would more than justify Syr’nj’s having her locked up at any time, you say “Syr’ng[sic] refuses to objectively assess the situation” and finish with “Bandit’s only real ‘crime’ is being sassy.” Mystifying.
I’m addressing their two distinct points of view. There are two perspectives in there.
I didn’t really like either rap this time, so I vote solely on favoritism. Bandit
Bandit! And I’m making my first comment to vote for her! :)
I think Bandit won this one. Not by a lot. They were both good. I also, y’know, still believe Syr was more wrong in the main storyline with these two so I’m a lil biased. (notice I said “more” wrong? As in, I think they both did some wrong? ;D) Normally Syr’s my favorite, though. :D
Sigh. I couldn’t stomach these in video form, and I can’t stomach them in comic form, even from GA. Is this the last one?
One more. Friday should be the last.
I should probably clarify, I actually am enjoying these. But I wanted to answer Nathanyel’s question.
Glad I’m not the only one. At least this has something of a decent meter. I’ll vote for Syr’nj since she’s my favorite and I can’t stand Bandit.
Syr’Nj.
Bandit only had one or two points and didn’t press ’em hard enough. Her last section pretty much boils down to “Whatever, I’m not even upset.”
Bandit got this one.
Syr’Nj by far.
‘shared secrets over snacks’ won it for me.
Syr’Nj, for me.
I think Bandit was punchier on this one, so I’m giving it to her.
Syr’Nj. But I really hope we get some closure on these threads, cuz they both were so wrong for so long…
I got to admit, toward the end of the last battle I was reconsidering voting for E-merl over Gravey.
Syr’Nj for the win.
They both came out strong out of the the gate. But Syr’Nj kept it strong throughout while Bandit tapers in the end.
I do agree with some of the other posters that Bandit was wronged by Syr’Nj. So I hope they do get an opportunity to work things out in the comic.
Syr’Nj. Hit harder.
Ban’Nj.
I’ve gotta give this one to Bandit. I was leaning towards her the whole time but the /guilded cage/ line just sold me!
Syr’nj. Bandit’s issue was always simple: she has problems with her own inadequacies and failures and takes it out on everyone else. She was given command, given every gesture of trust by Byron and whatnot and when it all went horrendously south for reasons neither of them could have forseen she felt at fault but chose to project that frustration outwards.
It’s really unhealthy.
Syr’Nj.
It’s a no winner situation for me. Not a fan of either rap.
Bandit
^syllabus
Good lines by both but I think Syr’nj edges Bandit out. Hat-thief was mostly complaining, and Her Stickness was never put on defense.
I’m voting for Syr’nj.
Both made mistakes, but I feel Bandit’s often were driven by her own issues, while Syr’s mistakes happened because she was trying to build something worthwhile.
I’m realising this has now just become side-picking for the old arguement between the two characters.
I’m still voting for Syr’nj butnow in the context of the rap battle, because I think she just got her points through a lot better, and Bandit’s last verse felt a bit weak.
Gotta go with Bandit. There is so much sass.
Bandit
Bandit for me.
I gotta give it to Syr’nj on this one, I don’t think Bandit pressed her grievances hard enough to drive it home and the absolute finality I hear in my head over the line “You always have a choice” is really winning this for me.
Syr’nj because she nails it home and like a leader takes full responsibility but still shows why she did what she did.
Syr’Nj. Bandit was a terrible alt anyways, HR should’ve put more of her points into silver tongue over trying to get that height boost at 50 vitality.
Bandit, for incorporating her accent into a jab at wood elf name formatting.
I’m gonna vote bandit here.
Missed voting on the others because I didn’t read the author comments about it being a competition between the characters.
I don’t feel like voting on this one. The references to perhaps the most gut-wrenching (in some cases, literally) scene in the whole comic overpowers the “fun diversion” aspect of these battles.
I vote Bandit
bandiiiiiittt
Bandit.
Good effort Syr’ng, but Bandit has a rap sheet so that puts her over the top.
Much as I love Syr’Nj, I have to give it to Bandit for the way she lets her patterns of speech rule the rhythm. Syr’Nj’s rhythm is more straight-forward, but Bandit’s lurches and swoops and yet maintains control.
Syr’Nj
Bandit
I don’t understand what the spelling of syllabus as “sillibus” is intended to convey, as they’d be pronounced the same; it doesn’t convey dialect or manner of speaking, and I don’t know of any other reason to mis-spell it.

I like Bandit as a character more, but Syr’nj get my vote here.
Bandit
So very Bandit.
i cant hear the battle from just the words, and ive preferred syr since the beginning of the comic
but bandit CRUSHED this one.
Wait a minute. I just found out, the rap battles were forcast way long ago:

although in that one an other pairing is stated
Syr’Nj!
BEST COMMENT/AVATAR COMBO EVAR!
Logging in for the first time to vote for BANDIT!
Because seriously- Syr’Nj was blatantly being biased towards Byron when she flipped out on Bandit. For a woman of science, she sure balks at the ‘coldly logical’ path forward a lot.
Honestly, half the problem is that Bandit is sitting there feeling smugly superior after Syr had to watch her kill her mate. Syr even says it here – the reason she’s so convinced that Bandit just turned traitor to kill him out of hidden hate is because of the way Bandit said it was good that he died. She spends more of her time blaming Syr and Byron for daring to hope he could actually enjoy the right to live than actually explaining she had no real choice. Yeah, Bandit was forced to kill him, but throwing it in Syr’s face only confirms the latter’s admittedly biased accusations.
Tsk
Scientists are only ‘coldly logical’ on Star Trek.
Syr’Nj.
I get what people are saying about Sr’Nyj being biased, never having apologized, etc, but that’s not the point of a rap battle.
Sr’Nyj came out the gate swinging with strong rhymes and never let up. Bandit got fancy in a few places but couldn’t hold up to the medic’s methodical relentlessness. The winner is Sr’Nyj.
